  • Patent number: 11872862
Abstract: A weight balancing system for a vehicle performs a method of adjusting a weight on a wheel of a vehicle. The system includes a processor of the vehicle and a scale. A wheel of the vehicle is placed on the scale, the wheel having an associated spring seat and associated spring. The scale measures a weight placed on the wheel by the vehicle and communicates the weight to the processor. The processor activates the spring seat to adjust a length of the spring, thereby adjusting the weight placed on the wheel by the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 9821619
Abstract: In a suspension controlling apparatus for a vehicle which includes a suspension whose damping force is variably settable and a control unit capable of executing skyhook control on the basis of target damping force for skyhook control to control the damping force of the suspension, the vehicle stability is raised upon skyhook control during turning of the vehicle. Target damping force limit value determination device provided in a control unit determines target damping force limit values for skyhook control such that a value obtained by subtracting, from the target damping force limit value on the decompression side when the suspension is in a decompressed state, the target damping force limit value on the compression side when the suspension is in a compressed state increases as a roll angle detected by a roll angle sensor increases. The control unit limits the target damping forces with the target damping force limit value.

  • Patent number: 9707978
Abstract: A stabilized railway car truck consists of two side frames and a bolster. The bolster has laterally opposite ends, each end extending into and supported within a side frame opening on a spring group. The stabilized railway car truck also includes a transom extending into, and supported within, a side frame opening. The spring group is supported at each transom end. Each side frame includes an integrally cast transom bearing over which a transom support bearing is fitted. The pivotal decoupling of the side frame and transom eliminates track displacement irregularities from reacting at the bolster and into the vehicle.

Abstract: A disc brake assembly for a railway truck is provided. The truck includes at least two wheel axle sets and brake discs mounted to the wheel axle sets. Extending between the wheel axle sets is a longitudinally extending truck frame. Also extending between the wheel axle sets and supporting the truck frame via primary springs are equalizer beams that further extend beyond the wheel sets and through an opening in the truck frame. Disc brake calipers are mounted to the equalizer beams with the caliper engaging the brake discs of the wheel sets. The assembly results in the brake discs and calipers being unsprung. In other words, the brake discs and calipers do not move relative to each other.

  • Patent number: 6227120
Abstract: An amusement ride vehicle capable of generating a natural “wheelie” motion with minimal acceleration is provided. Air springs are used to balance the vehicle about a predetermined center of gravity after passenger loading. The amount of balancing required is minimized by using a link, such as a pivoting control arm, to connect the front wheels of the vehicle to the front end of the chassis, thus enabling the chassis to be automatically balanced independent of the weight of the front wheels, without the need for computer control. Upon acceleration of as little as 0.5 Gs in a forward direction, the front end of the chassis rises smoothly and naturally into a upward arc while the front wheels remain engaged with the trackway. The amount of upward movement is limited by the length of the control arms, and can be further limited using stops, such as jounce and rebound bumpers.

  • Patent number: 4382413
Abstract: An earthquake-resistant crane including a plurality of girders supported on wheels for movement along rails includes a vertical vibration damping device to ensure safe operation of the crane. The vertical vibration damping device includes a resilient support for supporting the girders in a vertical direction, a vibration direction converting arrangement mounted between the girders and the wheels for converting vertical vibrations of the girders to a horizontal displacement of the wheels, and drive control device connected to the wheels. The vertical vibration damping device operates such that the vertical vibrations of the girders are converted to a horizontal displacement of the wheels to dissipate the energy of vibrations by the sliding friction produced between the wheels and the rails when the wheels move in the horizontal direction, whereby the amplitude of vibrations produced in response to the vertical vibrations of the girders can be reduced.
