Serial And Selective Patents (Class 105/287)
  • Patent number: 11649744
Abstract: According to some embodiments, an apparatus comprises an air pump configured to couple to a capstan, and a pneumatic cylinder coupled to the air pump at a first end of the pneumatic cylinder. The pneumatic cylinder comprises a piston. Rotation of the capstan in a first rotational direction causes the air pump to provide air pressure to the first end of the pneumatic cylinder. In response to the air pump providing air pressure to the first end of the pneumatic cylinder, the piston of the pneumatic cylinder moves in a first linear direction. The piston is coupled to a longitudinal beam of a longitudinal door system of a railcar. In response to the piston moving in the first linear direction, the longitudinal beam moves in the first linear direction, opening a door of the longitudinal door system.

  • Patent number: 8342105
Abstract: A open top railcar comprises a body on pair of spaced trucks, and a top chord extending the length of the side and the width of the end of the railcar, wherein the top chord includes an inwardly sloped top surface configured to discharge lading toward the interior of the railcar through gravity. The railcar further includes corner cap members that have inwardly sloped top surfaces configured to discharge lading toward the interior of the railcar through gravity. The railcar has a plurality of discharge chutes including a plurality of doors operated through a pneumatic door operating system and a manual door operating override for each door. The railcar also includes a nonmetallic touch pad housing provided with a plurality of touch plates for operating selective doors.

  • Patent number: 7389732
Abstract: A mechanism for selectively operating hopper doors of a railroad car. A fulcrum coupled to the operating cylinder includes channels within which levers can be selectively activated to open specific doors of the car, thus allowing the contents of the railcar to be sequentially emptied. The mechanism can be installed on railcars having either transverse hopper doors or longitudinal hopper doors.

  • Patent number: 5261333
Abstract: A discharge arrangement for dispensing the contents of a hopper. The discharge arrangement is particularly suitable for use as an automated ballast door operating mechanism on a railroad hopper car transporting ballast for use in roadbed restoration. The hopper includes at least one discharge opening for discharge of the contents of the hopper. Discharge arrangements are installed over each hopper discharge opening to provide regulation of the discharge of the contents. Each arrangement includes a pair of doors. Locking means are provided by which both or either of the pair of doors may be locked closed. The positioning of the doors is automated in that a fluid motor is connected between the doors. The fluid motor may be actuated to partially or fully open a selected door to regulate discharge.

  • Patent number: 5163372
Abstract: One double acting cylinder is attached to the doors of a gate assembly via a linkage. A lock out system cooperates with the linkage whereby different parts of the linkage may be immobilized prior to the beginning of a work cycle. The work performed by the double acting cylinder thus passes through the free parts of the linkage to actuate one door or the other.

  • Patent number: 4706854
Abstract: Apparatus and method for containing and feeding particulate material tending to pack into a mass from an elongated hopper having opposed sloping walls converging downward and inward towards each other to terminal margins presenting between them an elongated laterally restricted outlet for directing material onto a conveyor below. Gates are provided to close the outlet for containing the material and to open the outlet to discharge it onto the conveyor belt. Baffles within the hopper are provided to divide the cargo at a level spaced above the outlet into several piles which merge above and below the outlet. In this way the material is channelled to the outlet so that lateral arches which may be formed in the material are prevented or broken up to assure feeding. Pressure may be relieved on some of the piles by flanges extending laterally of the baffles. The invention also includes the combination of gates equipped to break up longitudinal arches with baffles to prevent the formation of lateral arches.

  • Patent number: 4437798
Abstract: Valve means are provided in a discharge opening movable between a closed position blocking communication between a hopper compartment and a discharge conduit. The valve means comprises a segment of an arc which in a closed position spans the distance between outlet slope sheets and is rotatable to an open position located generally below one of the outlet slope sheets. Each arcuate segment is actuated by a gear means. Preferably a worm gear is located above the arcuate segment. A worm gear drive extends transversely of the outlet and is journalled for rotation in bearings sealed with respect to the interior of the outlet. Preferably the worm gear drive is hollow and an activating shaft is located within the worm gear drive which extends outwardly of the outlet side wall slope sheet and at this outlet end includes an operating handle. A first inner portion of the actuating shaft includes first gear engaging means such as a non-round portion which is adapted to engage a non-round end portion of the gear drive.
