  • Patent number: 9890705
Abstract: An open cycle gas turbine system includes a storage tank, a closed helical supplier, a combustor, a gas turbine, a compressor, a propeller and a generator. After the combustion gas in the combustor enters the gas turbine, the combustion gas is expanded to apply a work and to produce a power to the gas turbine so as to operate the gas turbine so that the compressor is operated to compress the air, the generator is operated to generate an electric power, and the propeller is operated to propel vehicles. The closed helical supplier has a closely sealing effect so that the high pressure combustion gas in the combustor will not leak from the closed helical supplier and will not touch the solid fuel powder in the storage tank.

  • Patent number: 7643928
Abstract: A system and method for controlling the speed of a turbine engine, the turbine engine being operative to provide power to a primary load. When a decrease in the power requirement of the primary load is detected, at least a portion of the power generated by the turbine engine is redirected to a secondary load, thereby maintaining the speed of the turbine engine below a rated maximum speed. In the example of a turbine-powered train in which the turbine engine provides power to electric traction motors driving the wheels of the train, when a wheel spin is detected, at least a portion of the power generated by the turbine engine is diverted from the respective electric traction motor to rheostats for conversion to heat.

  • Publication number: 20090288577
Abstract: Systems and methods are described for generating electrical energy and/or charging a system electrical energy storage device in a vehicle, such as a locomotive. The vehicle includes at least one airflow device coupled to an electric machine. In one example, the method includes, generating electrical energy at the electric machine, said machine being driven by an ambient air flow interacting with the airflow device; and delivering at least some of the harnessed energy to an electrical component of the locomotive. The harnessed energy may be delivered to an electrical load, or delivered to the system electrical energy storage device to charge the device, or combinations thereof.

  • Patent number: 7059841
Abstract: An arrangement of an oil-free compressor apparatus on a rail vehicle for supplying compressed air to pneumatic units assigned to the rail vehicle. The arrangement includes an oil-free compressor and a cooler unit connected with the compressor. The arrangement also includes a rail vehicle having a floor with at least one opening. The compressor is fastened on at least one side to the vehicle floor such that a main axis of rotation of the compressor is arranged essentially vertical with respect to the vehicle floor. The cooler unit interacts with the at least one opening that is configured to take in cooling air to cool the compressor.

  • Patent number: 6397759
Abstract: A locomotive is described including a frame having a wall with a roof and floor defining an enclosed space thereon. A turbine engine is disposed within the enclosed space. An air inlet is provided to permit ingress of air into the enclosed space for ingestion by the turbine and for circulation around the turbine to cool the turbine. A first silencer is disposed between the air inlet and the turbine to minimize noise generated by the turbine. An exhaust duct, for connection to the exhaust outlet of the turbine, is also provided to permit egress of exhaust gases generated by the turbine from the enclosed space. In addition, a second silencer, connected to the exhaust duct, is provided to minimize noise generated by the turbine. Finally, at least one of the wall, roof, and floor of the enclosed space incorporate noise dampening materials to minimize noise generated by the turbine. An enclosure assembly for a turbine is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5839852
Abstract: The invention provides a road spillway comprising a porous removable deck over a ditch across a road. The road has a surface for driving on. Solid supports are provided on opposite sides of the ditch and below the surface of the road. Span members span the ditch generally below the surface of the road, removably resting on the solid supports. Deck members are positioned above, and attached to, the span members. A rigid grader bar may be attached to the top of the deck members, spanning the porous deck. The span members and deck members form a porous deck resting on the supports and spanning the ditch. The deck has a top for driving on which is generally at the level of the surface of the road. A settling pond may be provided in fluid communication with the ditch.

  • Patent number: 5074708
Abstract: The tennis court has water impervious bays which contain water distribution piping and particulate material that conducts water from the bottom of the bays upwardly by capillary action to the playing surface of the court. The water distribution piping includes a substantially rigid outer pipe having relatively large openings extending through its lower portion, and at least one inner pipe that is located within the outer pipe and that has a plurality of water discharge orifices at spaced locations along its length. Water from a supply source is introduced into the inner pipe, at a desired low pressure and flow rate, at those times when a moisture sensor determines that the sensed moisture content within the particulate material adjacent the playing surface of the court is less than a preselected desired magnitude. Valving associated with the water distribution piping permits purging and/or draining of the piping.
