In particular embodiments, a first secondary linkage is coupled to the first common linkage and is coupled to an exterior surface of the first door assembly, wherein the first secondary linkage cooperates with the first common linkage to move the first door assembly between an open position and a closed position over the top hatch of the rail car.

    Abstract: A railcar hatch cover assembly having at least first and second covers each moveable between an open position and a closed position. First and second gears are mounted to the first and second covers, respectively. Third and fourth gears are mounted to a shaft that rotates between first, second, third, and fourth positions in sequence. The third gear is engaged with the first gear as the shaft rotates from the first position to the third position, and the fourth gear is engaged with the second gear as the shaft rotates from the second position to the fourth position. As the shaft rotates from the second position to the third position, the first cover assists in rotating the shaft and opening the second cover. The hatch cover assembly may have any number of covers, which as they move to an open position assist in the opening of another cover.

    Abstract: A remotely activated tank hatch system includes an upper frame and a lower frame joined by a hinge assembly. The lower frame is coupled to a collar of an opening of a tank and a hatch is coupled to the upper frame. The hinge assembly allows the upper frame to pivot the hatch between open and closed positions. The lower frame includes at least one catch to receive an edge of the hatch, when the hatch is closed. Spring members on the upper frame urge the hatch toward the upper frame so that the hatch may be swung away from the opening. Inflating a bladder positioned between the upper frame and hatch overcomes the spring pressure and urges the hatch into tight contact with the collar. The hatch system includes a remote control for inflating the bladder and for opening and closing the hatch.

A latch assembly is provided that has a latch arm rotatably coupled to the tank intermediate its ends. The latch assembly further includes a latch link rotatably coupled to the latch arm at one end and releasably engaging the second compression surface at the other. Accordingly, rotating the hinge and latch arms results in a first and second pressure engaging the cover along the first and second compression surfaces to secure the cover to the tank.

Pivotal locking members are provided on the neck and are movable between a locked position in which locking member engages the lid locking flange and an unlocked position in which the locking members are disengaged from the lid locking flange.     Abstract: A railroad car cover actuator automatically opens and closes the hatch covers of a railroad car. The actuator includes a camming device mounted to a railroad car along a longitudinal axis on which a car cover is hingedly mounted. A first inflatable hose for opening the railroad car cover is attached at one end to the cover and at another end to the car and extends partially around the camming device in a taut position when the car cover is closed. A second inflatable hose for closing the railroad car cover is also attached at one and to the cover and at another end to the car and extends from the cover in a relaxed position when the car cover is closed. Upon inflation of either the opening or closing hose, the diameter of the camming device effectively increases because the reach of the hose shortens to apply a lifting force to the cover causing it to open or close, respectively.
