Patent number: 10124817Abstract: A carbody of a railcar includes a roof bodyshell, a side bodyshell, and a cantrail. The cantrail includes: an outside plate; an inside plate arranged at a car inner side of the outside plate and spaced apart from the outside plate; and a plurality of coupling rib plates coupled to the outside plate and the inside plate and forming a plurality of triangles together with the outside plate and the inside plate. Each of the outside plate and the inside plate includes a plurality of sections each connecting apexes of the triangle. The plurality of sections of at least one of the outside plate and the inside plate include a plurality of flat plate sections. In the at least one plate, two or more adjacent flat plate sections among the plurality of flat plate sections are arranged on a straight line.Type: GrantFiled: February 5, 2014Date of Patent: November 13, 2018Assignee: KAWASAKI JUKOGYO KABUSHIKI KAISHAInventors: Naohiro Yoshida, Naoaki Kawakami, Hiroyuki Sakurai

Patent number: 8273477Abstract: Fuel cell designs and techniques for converting chemical energy into electrical energy uses a fuel cell are disclosed. The designs and techniques include an anode to receive fuel, a cathode to receive oxygen, and an electrolyte chamber in the fuel cell, including an electrolyte medium, where the electrolyte medium includes an inorganic salt mixture in the fuel cell. The salt mixture includes pre-determined quantities of at least two salts chosen from a group consisting of ammonium trifluoromethanesulfonate, ammonium trifluoroacetate, and ammonium nitrate, to conduct charge from the anode to the cathode. The fuel cell includes an electrical circuit operatively coupled to the fuel cell to transport electrons from the cathode.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 2007Date of Patent: September 25, 2012Assignee: Arizona Board of Regents for and on behalf of Arizona State UniversityInventors: Charles Austen Angell, Jean-Philippe Belieres, Dominic Francis-Gervasio

Patent number: 6550397Abstract: A car body, in which a hollow shape stock composed of two face plates and ribs joining the face plates together is used to form a side body, and stresses are reduced while minimizing an increase in mass. A car body, comprising a hollow shape stock composed of two face plates (31, 31) and ribs (32) joining the face plates together and used to form a side body (11), wherein face plate portions (31c, 31d) in regions (B, D) above and below connection points (c) between circular arcs, which constitute corner portions of a window (15), and vertical sides of the window (15) are greater in thickness than in the remaining regions (A, C, E). Stresses are most heavily concentrated in the regions (B, D). Therefore, it is possible to achieve reduction in mass and enhancement in strength together. Further, buckling preventive tools can be arranged in spaces in the regions (B, D) of the hollow shape stock.Type: GrantFiled: April 9, 2002Date of Patent: April 22, 2003Assignee: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventors: Takeshi Kawasaki, Sumio Okuno, Toshiaki Makino, Kentaro Masai, Kazufumi Yamaji

Patent number: 6378444Abstract: The invention relates to a rail vehicle body of the type comprising a grid structure, itself comprising longitudinal elements and cross elements interconnected at nodes, and supporting outer and inner coverings. Longitudinal and cross elements are circular section tubes. At at least some of its nodes, the grid structure comprises connections for interconnecting longitudinal and cross tubes of circular section. These connections have longitudinal and cross circular section sleeves which receive longitudinal and cross tubes respectively. Longitudinal tubes pass right through the connections made of longitudinal and cross tubes.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 2000Date of Patent: April 30, 2002Assignee: AlstomInventors: Laurent Dastas, Emigliano Campus

Patent number: 5303658Abstract: A body structure for railroad cars and enclosed-type overhead bridges, which have a small number of components that are easy to manufacture and assemble, and which can secure a necessary strength with a reduced weight, is divided into an appropriate number of sections, i.e., a wainscot framework, a door pocket framework, a window framework, and a door lintel framework. These sections or frameworks are formed of a corrugated plate material. Post members are erected in each section in a direction perpendicular to the ribs. Each post member is formed with recesses to avoid interference with the ribs. The sections thus formed are joined together and outside plates are attached to the surface of the assembled sections to complete a body structure. The body structure thus formed has uniform strength over the entire area and therefore can prevent local out-of-plane deformations.Type: GrantFiled: March 16, 1993Date of Patent: April 19, 1994Assignee: Kawasaki Jukogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Hiroaki Kohira

Patent number: 5285730Abstract: A side body structure for vehicles is formed of a plurality of sections. Each of the sections has a reinforcement formed as an integrally continuous construction. The reinforcement has a plurality of through holes which reduce the total weight of the reinforcement. The reinforcement further includes a plurality of ribs formed around the holes and is securely fastened together to a surface of an outer plate.Type: GrantFiled: September 17, 1991Date of Patent: February 15, 1994Assignee: Kawasaki Jukogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Takashi Fujinawa, Isamu Kawanishi, Hiroaki Kohira, Kazuya Inoue

Patent number: 4373447Abstract: The rail vehicle body is constructed such that the base, roof and a centrally located bearing frame define a unitary bearing section member. The bearing frame may be composed of pairs of vertically stiffened walls, rows of vertically disposed posts, and one or more lattice girders. The side walls of the vehicle body are removably mounted so that ready access can be made to the chambers defined on opposite sides of the load-bearing frame. In addition, the load-bearing frame or frames are provided with apertures to provide access between the chambers on opposite sides of the bearing frame. Also, a drive means for driving the wheels of the vehicle body can be suspended from transverse girders forming the base of the vehicle body.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 1979Date of Patent: February 15, 1983Assignee: Schweizerische Lokomotiv und MaschinenfabrikInventor: Johann K.
