Abstract: A protective coating is formed on a metallic material surface by applying a treating agent comprising water, an alkali silicate, and, optionally, a lubricating component to the surface and drying the treating agent. The coating film thereby formed has excellent anti-galling and rust preventive properties. If a lubricating component is present, the coating film also has excellent self-lubricating properties.

Abstract: A pigment grade corrosion inhibitor and a method of applying the inhibitor is disclosed. The inhibitor is comprised of a host species comprised of an inorganic compound having a layered structure and a guest species comprised an anionic species of a weak acid. The host species is preferably a double hydroxide having a structure of: [M(II)1?xM(III)x(OH?)2][An?x/n.yH2O], where M(II) is a divalent metal cationic species, M(III) is a trivalent metal cationic species, and An? is an anionic species, preferably with the species present in a range of: 0.2?M(III)/(M(II)+M(III))?0.4.
Abstract: I provide a non-toxic protein and protein compound conversion coated metal article, a painted or plated non-toxic protein and protein compound conversion coated metal article, the aqueous coating solution to provide the in-situ conversion protective coating, and a process of preparing the article. The article is a metal selected from the group consisting of magnesium, magnesium alloy, beryllium and beryllium alloy. The solution has a pH of 3.0 to 12.0 and preferably 4.0 to 10.0 and a protein and protein compound concentration of 0.1 to 10% by weight and the protein and protein compound have a molecular mass of 16,700 to 1,000,000.
Abstract: In at least one aspect, the invention relates to an entirely or substantially chromium-free conversion coating composition and process for conversion coating metal surfaces that provides corrosion resistance. In at least another aspect, the present invention relates to an article having a metal surface that is at least partially coated with an entirely or substantially chromium-free conversion coating that provides corrosion resistance. In certain embodiments, the conversion coating composition comprises water and (A) dissolved fluorometallate anions selected from the group consisting of TiF6−2, ZrF6−2, HfF6−2, SiF6−2, AlF6−3, GeF6−2, SnF6−2, BF4−, and mixtures thereof and (B) a water-soluble polymer which is a Mannich adduct of poly(4-vinyl phenol) and N-methyl ethanolamine. In other embodiments, the composition also comprises (C) a water-soluble polymer which is a Mannich adduct of poly(4-vinyl phenol) and N-methyl glucamine.

Abstract: A process is provided for growing the microflora Thraustochytrium, Schizochytrium, and mixtures thereof, which includes the growing of the microflora in fermentation medium containing non-chloride containing sodium salts, in particular sodium sulfate. In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the process produces microflora having a cell aggregate size useful for the production of food products for use in aquaculture. Further disclosed is a food product which includes Thraustochytrium, Schizochytrium, and mixtures thereof, and a component selected from flaxseed, rapeseed, soybean and avocado meal. Such a food product includes a balance of long chain and short chain omega-3 highly unsaturated fatty acids.
