Abstract: A plastic molding composition includes a powder, gelatin, a polar solvent, and an adhesion reducer. The powder contains at least one of a ceramic particle and a metal particle. The adhesion reducer reduces adhesion of the gelatin so that a molded product, which is molded from the composition with a molding die, is removed from the molding die without being broken. The adhesion reducer is a water-soluble or water-dispersible compound. The adhesion reducer has a HLB value, calculated by Griffin's method, ranging from 10 to 20.

  • Publication number: 20130220174
Abstract: The present invention addresses the problem of providing: a two-component tissue adhesive having high adhesive strength and high biocompatibility; and a method for producing the two-component tissue adhesive. The present invention involves a two-component tissue adhesive comprising hydrophobically-modified gelatin as a first agent and a cross-linking reagent as a second agent. The hydrophobically-modified gelatin is provided with an amino group and a hydrophobic group on the side chain thereof, and the cross-linking reagent has two or more active ester groups or anhydrides within a single molecule.

  • Publication number: 20130206034
Abstract: A dried distiller soluble based biopolymer, processes for forming the biopolymer, and articles of manufacture thereof. The produced dried distillers solubles derives from co-products of corn fermentation facilities and is comprised in part of water-soluble proteins. A biopolymer consists essentially of dried distillers solubles, and an article of manufacture includes a biopolymer consisting of dried distillers solubles and an optional additive. The process of forming dried distiller solubles involves separating whole stillage into a liquid fraction and a solid fraction, wherein the liquid fraction comprises water soluble proteins in an amount greater than the solid fraction, and wherein the solid fraction has a higher solid content than the liquid fraction. The liquid fraction is sprayed at an elevated temperature to remove at least a portion of moisture in the liquid fraction and form particles and granules of the liquid fraction.

  • Publication number: 20100069534
Abstract: The present invention provides an improved method of producing a stable heat denatured soy/urea adhesive having improved wet and dry strengths, with more efficient production and lower production costs. The method comprises combining urea with soy flour that has been heated until denatured and substantially free from urease activity. The soy flour is preferably heated to a temperature of at least 81° C. up to 100° C. for at least 15 to 500 minutes. Optionally, the method may also include adding a crosslinking agent, diluent or both to the soy flour/urea adhesive and/or adding an emulsified or dispersed polymer. Adhesives and dispersions prepared according to the methods of this invention offer increased stability and strength properties.
