Abstract: An aqueous composition formed by mixing a hydrolysable silicon compound having a low solubility in water (e.g a fluorosilane), a major proportion of water, and a surfactant, also contains an effective amount of a co-solvent (e.g. certain glycol ethers) which is sparingly soluble in water to improve the stability of the composition. The composition may be used for surface treatment.

  • Patent number: 6235833
Abstract: A water-repellent solution for forming a superior water-repellent film on a glass substrate is produced by subjecting a fluoroalkyl-group contained silane compound to a hydrolysis and a condensation polymerization. With this, at least dimers and trimers of the silane compound are produced. In case wherein the fluoroalkyl-group contained silane compound is of a type having the following general formula, satisfied performance of the formed water-repellent film is expected: CF3(CF2)m(CH2)2SiX3 wherein “m” is equal to or greater than 7 (seven) and “X” represents halogen, isocyanate-group or alkoxy-group, said alkoxy-group including methoxy-group [OCH3], ethoxy-group [OC2H5] or isopropoxy-group [OC3H5]. When the “m” is equal to or greater than 9 (nine), the performance of the film is much increased.

  • Patent number: 6210791
Abstract: A coated article suitable for use at elevated temperature is formed of a substrate made from metal or a ceramic, a diffuse reflective barrier coating overlying the substrate, and a low-emissivity top coat covering the diffuse reflective barrier coating. The diffuse reflective barrier coating includes a transmissive medium having a transmissive-medium index of refraction, and a plurality of radiation-scattering centers distributed in the transmissive medium, the radiation-scattering centers having a scattering-center index of refraction different from the transmissive-medium index of refraction. The radiation scattering centers may be voids or second ceramic particles. The diffuse reflective barrier coating has a surface roughness of less than about 150 microinches RMS.
