Abstract: Absorbable monofilament fibers and self-retaining sutures with high tensile strengths have been developed. The straight pull tensile strengths of the absorbable self-retaining sutures closely approximate, equal or exceed the average minimum knot-pull tensile standards set by the United States Pharmacopeia (USP). These higher strength absorbable self-retaining sutures can therefore be used either without needing to oversize the suture for a given procedure, or by oversizing the self-retaining suture by no more than 0.1 mm in diameter. In one embodiment, the absorbable self-retaining sutures are made from poly-4-hydroxybutyrate or copolymers thereof. Methods for producing absorbable self-retaining sutures that have high tensile strengths and pronounced sheath-core structures wherein the sheath is harder than the core are also provided.

Highly fluorinated phosphonium ionic liquids based on (11) having been produced exhibiting high thermal stabilities, low melting points and temperature dependent solvent miscibilities. These salts and derivatives of (11) have also been employed in the preparation of superhydrophobic surfaces, indicating that ionic liquids are not only new alternative solvents, but also viable functional materials. All derivatives of (11) form biphasic systems with common laboratory solvents of ranging polarity at room temperature. Based on the solvent miscibility experiments with water and the high fluorine loading, the PILs showed obvious evidence of being hydrophobic. Coatings made with these phosphonium ionic liquids (11), salts and derivatives thereof were superhydrophobic with water contact angles were measured and all of the surfaces were determined to be superhydrophobic with contact angles >150°.

Abstract: Active oxygen compounds, such as equilibrium peroxycarboxylic acid compositions are incorporated within an adsorbed outer layer of hydrophobic particulate component that remains undissolved from the active oxygen component. The dry powder compositions containing the active oxygen compounds provide a stable, controlled release composition having various applications of use. Beneficially, the dry powders delivering active oxygen compounds are low or no odor compositions and do not require the use of personal protective equipment for persons handling the compositions.

Abstract: An insulating composition including a graphene oxide and an insulating material including the same; and a polar solvent having a solvent polarity index (P) of greater than 5.5, a substrate including an insulating layer using the same, and a method for manufacturing the substrate. It is possible to provide an insulating composition including a specific solvent that can secure dispersibility of the graphene oxide while including the graphene oxide having excellent insulating and mechanical properties as an insulating material. Further, it is possible to provide a substrate including a fine insulating layer pattern as well as a bulk insulating layer pattern by using the insulating composition to overcome an aggregation problem in a conventional inkjet printing method.
