  • Publication number: 20120235083
Abstract: This invention pertains to a composition that can be used to heal cracks in plastics and other substrates. In the present invention, a composition comprising nanotubes, healing agent(s), and end caps for the nanotubes may be used to heal crack(s) as they begin to occur. With the composition, the healing agent(s) are contained within the nanotubes, and a reaction releases the healing agent(s) after the end caps can be removed from the nanotubes. This invention also includes a method of preparing a composition for healing cracks in plastics and other substrates. For this method, the healing agent(s) are filled inside of the nanotubes, and then end caps are bound onto the ends of the nanotubes. After a reaction occurs to remove the end caps and release the healing agent(s), the cracks within the substrate may then be healed.

Abstract: Barium, strontium, tantalum and lanthanum precursor compositions useful for atomic layer deposition (ALD) and chemical vapor deposition (CVD) of titanate thin films. The precursors have the formula M(Cp)2, wherein M is strontium, barium, tantalum or lanthanum, and Cp is cyclopentadienyl, of the formula (I), wherein each of R1-R5 is the same as or different from one another, with each being independently selected from among hydrogen, C1-C12 alkyl, C1-C12 amino, C6-C10 aryl, C1-C12 alkoxy, C3-C6 alkylsilyl, C2-C12 alkenyl, R1R2R3NNR3, wherein R1, R2 and R3 may be the same as or different from one another and each is independently selected from hydrogen and C1-C6 alkyl, and pendant ligands including functional group(s) providing further coordination to the metal center M. The precursors of the above formula are useful to achieve uniform coating of high dielectric constant materials in the manufacture of flash memory and other microelectronic devices.

Abstract: A coating composition comprising hydrophobic particles having an average size of between 7 nm and 4,000 nm and a wetting agent for promoting dispersion of the hydrophobic particles in water. The hydrophobic particles may be oxides, such as silica, titania, or zinc oxide. In one embodiment, the hydrophobic particles comprise fumed silica. The coating composition may be brushed, spin coated, or dipped onto a surface. In one embodiment, once the coating composition dries, the coating formed thereby is characterized by a contact angle formed with a water droplet in excess of 165 degrees. A method of making a coating composition comprising providing hydrophobic particles having an average size of between 7 nm and 4,000 nm, mixing a wetting agent with the hydrophobic particles to form a paste, and dispersing the paste in water by mixing to form a mixture.

Abstract: A removable, colored X-alginate coating composition for a surface includes an aqueous solution of sodium alginate including a colorant and an aqueous solution containing divalent cations. In various aspects, the aqueous solution containing divalent cations includes, but is not limited to, calcium chloride, calcium chlorate, calcium carbonate, magnesium chloride, magnesium chlorate, or magnesium carbonate. The applied coating composition is advantageously in the form of a thin film coating. The thin film may have a thickness about equal to or greater than 10 nanometers and may include more than a single layer; for example, two mono-layers, but not limited as such. Any one of the plurality of monolayers may have a thickness about equal to or greater than five nanometers. Advantageously, the X-alginate coating composition according to the embodiments of the invention is substantially removable from the application surface on-demand upon the application of a suitable chelator.
