The alkyd resin has an acid number of Less than 11 and a hydroxyl number from 40 to 260 and has been prepared by reacting a) an unsaturated fatty acid having 6 to 20 carbon atoms or a mixture of such acids or their triglycerides with b) a polyol and c) a dicarboxylic acid.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 1995Date of Patent: July 24, 2001Assignee: BASF Lacke & Farben AktiengesellschaftInventors: Werner Fries, Karl-Wilhelm Klemm, Arnold Dobbelstein, Horst Sobitzkat

Patent number: 6190444Abstract: Provided is a water-in-oil (W/O) emulsion ink for stencil printing which is less in change of viscosity with time and can give always stable prints. The emulsion ink contains a resinous component having a free carboxylic acid group or a higher fatty acid in the oil phase, and contains a divalent or trivalent metal salt and a monovalent metal salt having alkalinity in the water phase, whereby an interfacial layer of the emulsion is strengthened to stabilize the emulsion. The resinous component is preferably an alkyd resin, a rosin-modified phenolic resin, a maleic acid resin and a rosin. The monovalent metal salt or the divalent or trivalent metal salt is preferably contained in at least an amount equivalent to the free carboxylic acid of the resinous component and the higher fatty acid contained in the oil phase. The resinous component or the higher fatty acid is contained in an amount of 0.5-30% by weight based on the total amount of the emulsion ink.Type: GrantFiled: October 18, 1999Date of Patent: February 20, 2001Assignee: Riso Kagaku CorporationInventors: Sadanao Okuda, Hiromichi Yamada

Patent number: RE38952Abstract: A method of printing a liquid ink which is produced from a heat activated dye which is selected from a limited group of dyes which are capable of transfer at low energy. A printer which uses liquid ink, such as an ink jet printer, prints an image onto an intermediate substrate medium. The dyes contained in the ink are not substantially activated during the process of printing on to the medium. The image formed by the printed ink is transferred from the medium to a final substrate by the application of heat and pressure for a short period of time to activate the ink. The dye and dispersing/emulsifying agent(s) are selected from a limited group to produce an ink which permits thermal transfer at low energy, with the resulting image, as deposited on the final substrate, having an optical density of 1.0 or greater. Liquid ink is produced using heat activated dyes selected from a limited group of dyes that are capable of heat activation. The dyes are not substantially soluble in the liquid carrier, such as water.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 2002Date of Patent: January 31, 2006Inventors: Nathan S. Hale, Ming Xu
