Abstract: This technology relates to refractory coatings used in metal casting by the foundry industry. Refractory coatings are often used to coat foundry cores and molds for the purpose of improving the quality of castings formed in connection with the cores or molds, particularly at the surface of the casting. Whereas traditional coatings comprise water based solvents that require excessive drying times or HAPs that emit hazardous VOCs, preferred embodiments of the present invention comprise refractory coatings having VOC-exempt ester based solvents, such as a dimethyl carbonate (DMC). Other preferred embodiments of the present invention comprise methods for reduction of VOC content in a foundry article.

Abstract: Surface retarder coating compositions of the invention are based on the use of at least one non-Ordinary Portland Cement (non-OPC) binder and at least one OPC set retarder agent, which are provided in powder form that can be mixed with water at the construction site. The coating is applied onto the surface of a mould or formwork using roller or spray equipment, and concrete can then be cast within 30-60 minutes against the coating. The OPC set-retarding agent operates to retard setting of the concrete so that it can be de-moulded the next day and its surface can be removed using a high pressure water spray to reveal aggregate embedded beneath the removed surface.

Abstract: Coal dust additivated with water soluble carbohydrates for use in the green sand composition for molding of castings refers to a process for obtaining coal additivated with carbohydrates to be used in the green molding sand composition, commonly used for making casting molds, having as a scope to inhibit the sand sintering on the castings and so to improve their finish.
Abstract: The invention relates to coating material comprising a water-soluble salt as a filler. Such materials are especially suitable as core washes for salt cores for using in foundry technology.
Abstract: The subject of the present invention is the use of particular polysaccharides as admixtures for mineral materials, especially as admixtures for mineral binders. These polysaccharides have, characteristically: a weight-average molecular weight Mw of at least 500 g/mol and at most 9000 g/mol, especially between 700 and 7000 g/mol; and a degree of branching DB of at least 10%, especially between 10 and 40%. The invention also relates to the combined use, in mineral materials, including especially mineral binders, of these particular polysaccharides on the one hand and of certain other admixtures on the other hand, for example admixtures, of saccharidic or nonsaccharidic type, having a plasticizing, superplasticizing or other functionality.
Abstract: Three novel types of release agents comprising waste products of several useful product-making processes well known in the art are disclosed. The first type of release agent is comprised of desugared sugar beet molasses, which is a waste product in the process of removing sugar from sugar beet molasses. The second type of release agent is sugar cane molasses. The third type of agent is a class of compositions comprising steepwater, brewers condensed solubles and distillers solubles.
Abstract: A high-temperature lubricant comprising a water-base and minor effective amounts of borate, dextrin, graphite, xanthan gum, and an organic preservative. A powder for preparing a water-based high temperature lubricant is disclosed in which the powder comprises graphite and minor effective amounts of borate, dextrin, and xanthan gum. A continuous process for making the lubricant is also disclosed.

Abstract: Derivatized Arabinogalactan can be utilized in a variety of compositions to impart functionality without imparting negative rheological affects when the amount of the derivatized Arabinogalactan is increased in the composition. This is particularly important in the personal care industry, where it is desirable to have the flexibility to adjust the amount of derivatized Arabinogalactan depending upon the results it is desired to deliver to the user without negatively impacting the overall viscosity of the personal care composition.
