Abstract: The present invention relates to aminoarylsulfonic acid-phenol-formaldehyde condensate and concrete admixture comprising the same for incorporation in cementing composition, for example, concrete, motar, cement paste and the like, for improving slumping characteristics.
Abstract: Well cement slurries, water soluble dispersants therefor and methods of producing the dispersants are provided. The dispersants prevent high initial cement slurry viscosities and friction losses when the slurries are pumped, and are comprised of water soluble sulfoalkylated naphthols in which the naphthol molecules are alkylated with at least one group having the formula --C(R).sub.2 --SO.sub.3 M wherein R is selected from hydrogen and alkyl radicals containing from 1 to 5 carbon atoms and M is an alkali metal.
Abstract: Dinonylnaphthalene sulfonic acid, derivatives thereof and mixtures of any of them, are effective as dispersants for nonaqueous fluid compositions containing finely divided solid particles when added in an effective amount less than that necessary to act as a catalyst for any organic binder resin comprising an aminoplast and coreactants in the composition or in formulations made from the composition.
Abstract: Pigment preparations which contain an organic pigment and/or carbon black and a surfactant from the sulphosuccinic acid ester and/or alkylbenzenesulphonate series and which have been dried, if appropriate after wet comminution, by spray- or freeze-drying from an aqueous medium, and the use of these preparations for pigmenting high molecular weight organic material, in particular thermoplastics.

Abstract: An aqueous pigment dispersion containing as the dispersing agent a phosphate ester salt having the general formula: ##STR1## wherein: R and R' are the same or different linear or branched alkyl groups of 2 to 12 carbon atoms;k and l are the same or different integers having a value of 1 or 2;x and y are the same or different integers having values of greater than 1 but less than 13; and,M is a cation selected from the group consisting of potassium, sodium and ammonium. The dispersing agent is especially useful to disperse azo type pigments. The resulting pigment dispersion exhibits improved stability.
Abstract: A bulked kaolin pigment is prepared by mixing a small but effective amount of a water-soluble cationic material such as a cationic polyelectrolyte flocculant with a kaolin clay pigment in the presence of water. The resultant bulked clay product can be dispersed to form high solids clay-water slurries useful in making aqueous coating colors suitable for manufacturing lightweight coated publication papers or the pigment can be used as a filler for paper webs. Slurries having stable viscosity during storage and at elevated temperature are prepared by using as the dispersant an anionic sulfonated disperant such as a lignosulfonate or a naphthalene formaldehyde sulfonate complex.
Abstract: Organic phosphate or organic phosphite reagent compounds are employed to treat metallic particles, especially aluminum pigments, to protect their surfaces against chemical attack by water. Such treated particles are suitable for incorporation into aqueous-based coating systems.
Abstract: A water-insoluble pigment comprising a complex of a water-insoluble inorganic substrate exhibiting anion exchange properties, a water-soluble dye, and an anionic amphipathic material is disclosed.

Abstract: A heat stabilized slurry of bulked kaolin pigment is prepared by mixing a small but effective amount of a water-soluble cationic material such as a cationic polyelectrolyte flocculant with a kaolin clay pigment in the presence of water. The resultant bulked clay product is dispersed to form a high solids clay-water slurry useful in making aqueous coating colors suitable for manufacturing lightweight coated publication papers or the pigment can be used as a filler for paper webs. Slurries having stable viscosity during storage at elevated temperature and improved resistance to the formation of sediment are prepared by using as the dispersant a combination of an anionic lignosulfonate and an anionic naphthalene sulfonate formaldehyde complex in combination with a polyacrylate salt.
