Portland Type Cement Containing Patents (Class 106/664)
  • Patent number: 9701843
Abstract: Disclosed are compositions of fillers coated with adhesion promoting material alone, or also coated with an additive, processes for producing the coated fillers, the fillers obtained from those processes, and methods of using the coated fillers. The filler particle(s) are surface-treated with a component which assists in the adhesion/adherance of an additive to the filler particles, resulting in the desired additive-coated fillers. The filler, adhesion promoting material and additive can be mixed in slurry and dried, and the resulting filler particles are directly useful in many applications, such as paper coatings, plastic compositions (both foamed and non-foamed), inks, paints, cosmetics, textiles and the like, wherever such fillers now find application. Preferably, the additive is a colorant.

  • Patent number: 7473311
Abstract: The invention is an improved cementitious mixture used to form structural components that are strong, lightweight, heat and fire resistant, and very economical to produce. The material includes a mixture of cement, water, ribbon-like virgin polyethylene strips and aggregate materials. The aggregate preferably includes recycled industrial waste products. Examples of these industrial wastes include shredded tires, wood by-products, waste coal combustion by-products, recycled waste gypsum products, recycled industrial foundry sand, and waste foam products such a Styrofoam. This new cementitious material is strong and lightweight. It has a lower thermal conductivity than conventional concrete and therefore improved insulative properties. The use of industrial recyclables not only enhances the performance characteristics of the components made from this material but aids in maintaining the environment by providing a practical use for industrial waste.

  • Patent number: 6441054
Abstract: An exemplary surface active agent admixture composition of the invention comprises (1) a first surface active agent comprising a betaine, an alkyl or aryl or alkylaryl sulfonate, or mixture thereof; and (2) a second surface active agent comprising a nonionic oxyalkylene-containing polymer surfactant. The present invention therefore provides a system for ensuring the presence in a hydratable cementitious composition (when hardened) a sufficient air volume and sufficient air void fineness and consistency. Further exemplary admixture compositions may comprise one or more plasticizers and one or more clay activity-modifying agents. Cementitious compositions and methods for modifying cementitious compositions, which incorporate the above-mentioned surface active agent combination, are also described. The invention provides the ability to adjust and stabilize air void systems in hydratable cementitious compositions, while allowing conventional air entraining agent (AEA) dosage practices to be followed.

  • Patent number: 6146666
Abstract: A Thiobacillus thiooxidans growth inhibitor containing as the active ingredient at least one substance selected from the group consisting of a tungsten powder and tungsten compounds. Under acidic conditions of pH value of 4 or less, this growth inhibitor sufficiently inhibits the growth of T. thiooxidans. When added in a very small amount to, for example, a structural material such as concrete in a sewage disposal plant, etc., it can therefore inhibit the growth of T. thiooxidans without substantially decreasing the strength, etc. of the structural material per se.

  • Patent number: 5916483
Abstract: Additives are disclosed which inhibit the corrosion of metals in construction materials which contain an inorganic binder. The inventive corrosion inhibitors contain a reaction product of amines and acids or they consist of such a reaction product. Said saltlike corrosion inhibitors upon use do not develop any undesired fragrance, and they furthermore do not bring along any health risks for the persons who are working with said substances. Through the adding of the inventive corrosion inhibitors, furthermore the properties of the construction material during its preparation and also during its use can be improved. In corresponding processes for inhibiting the corrosion of metals which are in contact with the construction materials, like e.g. metal armings, the corrosion inhibitors are usually added in an amount of 0.01% by weight to 10% by weight of said reaction product, referred to the inorganic binder which is contained in such material.

  • Patent number: 5108511
Abstract: Masonry cement additives are provided which, when interground with Portland cement, produce a masonary cement having superior workability, plasticity and board life, while unexpectedly also having advantageously low levels of entrained air. The additives of the invention enable the masonry cement producer to obtain these desired properties without replacing the limestone component of the masonry cement with more costly lime. The additives of the invention may be provided in aqueous solution, and thus, unlike emulsion additives, are stable for long periods of storage, even when subjected to extreme temperature excursions and cycling. The additives of the invention comprise a salt of stearic acid; a set retarding carbohydrate; an ethylenic glycol elected from the group consisting of mono-, di-, tri-, and tetraethylene glycols; and a cellulose ether.
