A method of obtaining a cement by-product of coal liquefaction may include exposing a coal to a hydrogenated vegetable oil in the presence of a coal-derived solvent to form a slurry, elevating the temperature of the slurry to facilitate liquefying the coal and liberating a volatile matter, separating the insoluble components from the slurry, heating the insoluble components to liberate a volatile matter and an entrained solvent, blending the insoluble components with a calcareous material and roasting the blend in a kiln at a temperature greater than 1000 degrees Celsius to obtain a clinker, and grinding the clinker to obtain a cement.

    Abstract: Methods and systems for controlling a cement finishing mill, and operating the mill at an optimal point, are disclosed. To determine an optimal point of operation, values of mill power and sound are collected and compared to values predicted by a model to determine if the mill is choking. This choking determination is used in one of two processes to determine an optimal point of operation for the mill. In the first process, as long as the mill is not choking, the amount of fresh feed input to the mill is incrementally increased; when choking occurs, the amount of fresh feed is decreased until choking ceases. In the second process, the amount of fresh feed input to the mill is increased and decreased in an oscillating manner over time, to find the amount of feed that results in the mill approaching, but never reaching, a choking state.

The material is thermal processed within the fluidized bed in a reducing atmosphere by supplying fuel for combustion in the fluidized bed to maintain temperatures sufficient to volatilize alkali and sulfur compounds in the feed material and produce a product having an increased concentration of cement forming compounds and reduced alkali and sulfur compounds as compared to the feed material. The reduced clinker is then re-oxidized to minimize/reverse adverse color and mineralogy.

    Abstract: Aggregate is separated from sludge consisting of, what is called, "the residual raw concrete" remaining in a raw concrete mixing truck from which raw (uncured) concrete has been discharged, and waste water resulting from washing the mixing truck. The sludge is stored in a pretreatment vessel. Then, air is forced into the sludge to form bubbles. A chemical admixture in the sludge is allowed to adhere to the bubbles, and an admixture coating within the sludge is removed, thereby promoting the hydration of the cement. Subsequently, the resultant sludge is dehydrated to obtain a dehydrated cake of high hardness. Powder formed of the same quality of the cake is spread over the cake, which is then cured for a few hours. The resultant cake is then crushed so that granular aggregate can be formed.

Hence it is possible to manufacture ultra-fine cement in existing grinding plants in a mechanically simple and operationally inexpensive way, while normal cement is simultaneously manufactured, without having any significant impact on the mill operation.

The moisture content of the ash aggregate mixture and ash aggregate/cement mixtures are carefully adjusted to achieve maximum compressive strength. When ash aggregates containing less than 50 percent MSWIA are combined with at least 5 percent cement by dry weight, volumetrically stable solids are formed within seven days that have compressive strengths in excess of 300 psi.
