Patent number: 12104263Abstract: Carbon-neutral fuels are produced from aragonite in a solar thermal decomposition process in which the carbon dioxide generated from the aragonite is catalytically converted to methane, ethanol, or Fischer-Tropsch liquids. Advantageously, heat from the aragonite production can be recovered and used in downstream processes to thereby minimize the carbon footprint of the fuel production.Type: GrantFiled: August 9, 2023Date of Patent: October 1, 2024Assignees: Nant Holdings IP, LLC, Calcean Minerals and Materials, LLCInventors: Patrick Soon-Shiong, Anthony Myers

Patent number: 7300515Abstract: This invention provides facing materials for cementitious boards such as those including Portland cement or gypsum cores. The preferred facing material includes, in a first embodiment, a facing layer having an areal weight of about 300 grams/M2, and an air permeability rating of no greater than about 300 CFM/ft2 (FG 436-910 test method). The facing layer reduces the penetration of a slurry of cementitious material during the manufacture of a cementitious board, while permitting the water vapor from the slurry to pass therethrough. The facing materials of this invention can be designed to substantially eliminate the fouling of rolls used in continuous processing of such boards without the use, or with greatly reduced use, of costly viscosity control agents in the slurry.Type: GrantFiled: November 16, 2005Date of Patent: November 27, 2007Assignee: Saint-Gobain Technical Fabrics Canada, LtdInventor: John Frederick Porter

Patent number: 6780230Abstract: Disclosed are formulations adapted to form a foamed cementitious composition, the foamed cementitious composition itself, a method of forming a hydraulic binder foam, and a method of conveying and applying the resulting foam to a substrate. A pumpable cementitious slurry is formed, the slurry is mixed with a gas such as air, and is subjected to mechanically created turbulence to generate gas bubbles and create a foam, which preferably is stabilized by a foam stabilizing agent such as polyvinyl alcohol present in the slurry. The foam is then conveyed to a nozzle or other suitable dispense point from which it is applied, for example sprayed, preferably uniformly, onto a substrate to be coated. Prior to dispensing, a set accelerator is preferably injected, which causes the foam to gel, which in turn improves the hangability of the product on a substrate. The spray material adheres to the substrate and hardens to form an insulative coating on the substrate.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 2002Date of Patent: August 24, 2004Assignee: W.R. Publication number: 20030102099Abstract: Dispersed powders are disclosed that comprise fine nanoscale powders dispersed on coarser carrier powders. The composition of the dispersed fine powders may be oxides, carbides, nitrides, borides, chalcogenides, metals, and alloys. Fine powders discussed are of sizes less than 100 microns, preferably less than 10 micron, more preferably less than 1 micron, and most preferably less than 100 nanometers. Methods for producing such powders in high volume, low-cost, and reproducible quality are also outlined. Such powders are useful in various applications such as catalysts, sensor, electronic, electrical, photonic, thermal, biomedical, piezo, magnetic, catalytic and electrochemical products.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 4, 2001Publication date: June 5, 2003Inventors: Tapesh Yadav, Karl Pfaffenbach, Roger Dirstine

Patent number: 4962279Abstract: An improvement is disclosed applicable to the production of calcined and hydrous kaolins in particulate form. A process and system are disclosed in which the calciner is integrated with a filtration process and a preceding spray dryer by passing the dust-laden calciner hot off-gases to the spray dryer to achieve savings in energy. Waste heat from the calciner, and concomitantly dustlike clay particles carried in the off-gas, are thereby passed to the dryer and subsequently treated and their values recovered.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 1989Date of Patent: October 9, 1990Assignee: ECC America Inc.Inventors: Charles D.
