  • Patent number: 7621995
Abstract: A viscosity modifying agent is added to a concrete mixture to give the concrete desirable rheological properties. The viscosity modifying agent is incorporated into a foam admixture before it is mixed into the concrete. Because the viscosity modifying agent is a component of the foam admixture, the viscosity modifying agent is dispersed in the aqueous film that forms the foam bubbles. The viscosity modifier in the foam bubbles gives the foam beneficial rheological properties. The viscosity modifier performs more efficiently when included in the foam bubbles as compared to being mixed directly into the concrete. The foam bubbles containing the viscosity modifier can be stabilized using a fluorochemical stabilizer, which is included in the foam admixture. The foam bubbles can be further stabilized with respect to cement mixtures by including a hydration stabilizing in the cement mixture.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing a coated basic material for a hydraulic composition (11) comprising a basic material (14, 16) and water (15). According to the invention, the basic material can consist of several sub-groups (14, 16) and at least one hydraulic binding agent (14) and to produce the hydraulic composition the basic material (14, 16) and the water (15) are mixed in a mixer (8). Prior to the mixing of the hydraulic composition, the basic material (14, 16) is at least partially coated with an additive (13). The invention also relates to a coated basic material to be used in concrete production, to an additive for concrete production and to a method for producing a hydraulic composition.

Abstract: A slurry is made including water, at least 50% by weight calcium sulfate hemihydrate, and a specific polycarboxylate dispersant prepared using at least three repeating units. A first repeating unit is a vinyl ether-type repeating unit. A second repeating unit includes a maleic acid-type repeating unit. A third repeating unit includes an acrylic acid-type repeating unit. The polymer dispersant has a molecular weight of from about 20,000 to about 80,000 Daltons. The slurry made from this composition can be made at reduced water levels to speed drying and reduce drying costs.

Abstract: A dry cast cementitious composition including cement, water, and a rheology modifying additive (RMA) is provided. The inclusion of the RMA improves the dry cast cementitious composition's response to vibration and dampens out differences due to minor fluctuations in initial slump of the composition. The RMA may include a dispersant for the dry cast cementitious compositions. The dry cast cementitious composition may optionally include other admixtures or additives known in the industry. Methods for making the dry cast cementitious composition and dry cast cementitious articles from the composition are also provided.

Abstract: Cement compositions comprising flexible, compressible beads, processes for preparing such cement compositions, and methods of cementing in subterranean formations using such cement compositions. One or more flexible, compressible beads are mixed with the cement before pumping the cement into a well bore. The flexible, compressible beads are preferably composed of an elastomeric material such as a copolymer of methylmethacrylate and acrylonitrile; a terpolymer of methylmethacrylate, acrylonitrile, and dichloroethane; a styrene-divinylbenzene copolymer; and polystyrene. The flexible, compressible beads may be heated to expand the beads before mixing with the cement such that the ensuing cement composition will have a desired density. Non-flexible beads such as spherulites may also be added to the cement compositions.

  • Patent number: 7537656
Abstract: Cement compositions may comprise one or more secondary amines substituted with a carboxyl group or salts thereof (e.g., 3-hydroxy N,N?-iminodisuccinic acid) for retarding the setting of such compositions. The inclusion of such materials in cement compositions may be highly beneficial. In wellbores having BHCT's of less than or equal to about 250° F., the use of the secondary amine as the set retarder ensures that the thickening time of the cement composition is sufficient to allow the cement composition to be pumped to its desired downhole location. Further, the secondary amine may be used in combination with conventional set retarders to enhance the ability of those retarders to increase the thickening time of the cement composition at higher BHCT's, e.g., from about 250° F. to about 525° F.
