Patent number: 5485143Abstract: A security dye pack disguised as a bundle of currency for deterring robberies includes a housing formed from a stack of currency bills sewn together and having a hollow chamber formed therein. A printed circuit board is disposed within the chamber for supporting electrical components which generate an actuating signal upon detecting removal of the security dye pack from the protected premises. A flexible pouch containing dye, tear gas, or other active chemicals, is secured at one end of the printed circuit board, and a squib extends into the pouch to ignite the chemical mixture when the actuating signal is generated. The flexible pouch is formed of a heat-resistant plastic film which is easily bendable. Foam cushions, protected by heat-resistant film, are disposed above and below the pouch and circuit board. Heat resistant plastic sheets extend about the foam cushions and are secured by an elastic thread to the housing to retain the components within the hollow chamber.Type: GrantFiled: February 21, 1995Date of Patent: January 16, 1996Assignee: U.S. Currency Protection Corp.Inventor: Scott E. Patent number: 5448223Abstract: A currency alarm pack for triggering an alarm to foil a bank robbery consists of a receiver for detecting an electromagnetic field at the exit of a bank and a circuit which activates an alarm to release dye and/or tear gas when the alarm pack leaves the field. The receiver has automatic gain control hysteresis causing its gain to increase when it first detects the field so that it automatically locks onto the field. This reduces the chance of activation of the alarm pack inside a bank if the robber does not exit the bank immediately.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 1994Date of Patent: September 5, 1995Assignee: ICI Americas, Inc.Inventor: Raymond C. Patent number: 5289785Abstract: A security enclosure comprises a first layer of an insulating material extending over the whole of the area of the enclosure and carrying a linear electrically responsive element on at least one surface. A low tensile strength layer having lower cohesion than adhesion is located between the first layer of insulating material and the electrically responsive element. A second layer of insulating material is adhered to and covers the electrically responsive element. The element is arranged in a configuration on the surface so dividing the surface that attempted penetration of the enclosure changes an electrical characteristic of the element, the change being detectable by an electrical circuit. An attempt to remove the second layer of insulating material to gain access to the element results in breakup of the low tensile strength layer and thus damage to the element and produces a detectable change in an electrical characteristic of the element.Type: GrantFiled: June 18, 1992Date of Patent: March 1, 1994Assignee: W. Patent number: 5059949Abstract: In a currency alarm pack, greater flexibility is achieved by multiple circuit boards and an alarm device, connected together by a thin, flexible substrate having printed conductors. The components are movable relative to one another for realistic flexure of the stack. At least two of the components are slidable relative to the stack along its direction of elongation as the stack is flexed. Portions of the substrate have tabs which extend laterally between opposed peripheral portions of adjacent intermediate sheets of the currency pack so that the alarm components are supported and can slide longitudinally as the stack is flexed. Adjacent components are connected by narrow portions of the substrate, which permit torsion of the stack. These narrow portions extend transverse to the surfaces of the currency sheets to allow the alarm components a high degree of relative movement. Compressible foam pads conceal the presence of the alarm components.Type: GrantFiled: May 10, 1990Date of Patent: October 22, 1991Assignee: ICI Americas Inc.Inventors: Louis J. Caparoni, Robert H. Patent number: 4856436Abstract: A protective cover for electronic equipment automatically expanding by the spring action of a pair of telescoping arms (24) having a cover (48) of resilient material attached between. The arms (24) are positioned contiguous with a pair of bases (20) that are located parallel with each other on the floor on either side of the electronic equipment with a hinged cover enclosure (50) between the ends forming a "U" shape. The arms (24) are connected on the ends by a strut (26) holding the cover (48). Solenoids (58) retain the arms in a tensioned position and when electrically actuated release them. The spring action pivots the arms with its accompanying cover completely enveloping the equipment. A lever (64) arrangement overrides the solenoid action manually releasing the arms. The device is reset by manually rotating and compressing the arms while folding the cover (48) into the enclosure (50). The object is to protect expensive equipment from fire, smoke and water damage if a fire is in the vicinity.Type: GrantFiled: January 25, 1988Date of Patent: August 15, 1989Inventor: Jonathan Campbell
