Each drill in a set of drills is a separate unit which is mounted on a vehicle. Each unit includes a split press wheel with an opener mounted within the wheel. The units can easily be individually mounted or adjusted on the vehicle for spacing and height. The opener has an articulating adjusting arm which allows easy adjustment to all preferred positions.

    Abstract: A unique and improved seed and fertilizer coulter-type drill is disclosed. The drill has a plurality of coulter wheels in four rows, the front two rows of coulters cut first furrows and deposit seed. The rear two rows of coulters cover the seed in the first cut furrows and produce a second set of furrows in which fertilizer is deposited, approximately 1 inch away from the seed. The two sets of coulters are followed by a plurality of press or packer wheels which ensure good seed to soil contact and cover the *remaining fertilizer furrows.

    Abstract: An improved suspension for a coulter wheel assembly of the type primarily intended for attachment to a tractor wherein the improved suspension is characterized by its construction including a plurality of pivotal support bars interconnecting a set of double disc openers with following press wheels is disclosed. The improved suspension includes a unique back angle pivot attachment of the coulter wheel assemblies to one of the pivoting support arms so that the coulter wheels and press wheels accurately track the direction of travel of a tractor, even when the direction of travel changes rapidly and frequently. A material may be deposited in the furrow created by the double disc openers attached to the improved suspension of this invention, and the depth of the furrow cut by the double disc opener may be adjusted.

    Abstract: A depth gauging adjustment mechanism includes a spring-loaded handle which pivots about a common axis with the depth gauging wheel arm on an opener assembly. The handle has two transversely located pins, and the back of the opener assembly has notches on a radius struck on the axis for receiving the pins. The wheel arm and thus the planting depth are maintained by the handle. Each handle position represents a different planting depth which can be adjusted easily with one hand by pulling the handle against the bias, repositioning the pins and then releasing the handle. The wheel arm is freely rockable downwardly from the depth adjusted position to facilitate handle movement when the opener assembly is raised from the ground-working position.
