Plural Cooperating Disk Openers Patents (Class 111/164)
  • Patent number: 5074227
Abstract: The disclosed planting apparatus includes a frame fixedly attached to a transversely extending tool bar. Secured to the tool bar and extending rearwardly therefrom is a platform on which the seed hopper and herbicide container are mounted. Seed from the hopper is dispensed downwardly to a seed metering device which deposits seed at uniformly spaced intervals into a furrow formed by a pair of furrow-opening discs and a shoe associated therewith, the shoe packing or compacting the soil at the bottom of the furrow formed by the discs. Playing an important role in the invention is a walking beam system which mounts a pair of gauge wheels for independent movement relative to each other and also relative to the furrow-opening discs and shoe. Also supported by the walking beam system is a pair of furrow-closing or press wheels, the pitch of which can be adjusted for varying soil conditions.

  • Patent number: 5060586
Abstract: The invention comprises an adjustable scraper device for scraping the disc blades of a grain drill. The device has a fixed mounting on the mounting for supporting the disc blades and a slidable mounting slidable along the fixed mounting to a selected adjusted position relative to the disc blade support mounting and the disc blades. Scrapers are mounted to the slidable mounting between the disc blades to be slid with the slidable mounting toward the center axis of the disc blades so that as the disc blade outer circumferential edge wears down, the scrapers, which act to scrape the disc blades, may be adjusted toward the center axis of the disc blades to keep the entire scraping portion of the scrapers within the confines of the outer circumferential edge of the disc blades, so that the scraping portion of the scraper will not wear on the outer edge of the disc blades and cause damage to the scraping portion of the scraper.

  • Patent number: 4977841
Abstract: A seed drill machine of the type having a plurality of disk assemblies, and a torsion spring joint for connection of the disk assemblies to the frame of the machine. The machine is conventionally mounted on a pair of wheels and the disk assemblies can be raised and lowered relative to the wheels for travel from place to place in the raised position and for ground working in the lowered position. In the lowered position, the torsion spring joint biases the disk blades in penetrating engagement with the soil to form a furrow. The torsion joints include flexible, resilient type spring elements. The disk assembly is carried by an arm connected to the joint. The spring elements are prone to develop a permanent deflection when they are left under load for a period of time. Means are provided for adjusting the angular relationship of the disk assembly arms to the connecting joints to compensate for such deformation.

  • Patent number: 4930431
Abstract: An implement for agricultural field work is primarily useful for preparing a field for no-till planting and comprises a wheel carried frame for carrying a massive fertilizer hopper which has apertures in its bottom portion through which fertilizer flows at a metered rate into feed tubes which carry the fertilizer to furrows formed by double-disc ground openers mounted on the frame. The openers aerate the soil and chop crop residues remaining on the ground surface from the previous crop. Hoes attached to the openers draw a portion of the soil displaced from the furrows back into the furrows after the fertilizer is deposited therein.

  • Patent number: 4920901
Abstract: A seeding apparatus is provided which includes a V-shaped frame having forward and rear arms of which the forward arm is hitchable to a tractor or other vehicle for pulling such apparatus. The seeding apparatus includes a carriage assembly which supports a furrow opener at one end of the carriage assembly adjacent the V-shaped frame. The seeding apparatus further includes a furrow closer at the remaining end of the carriage assembly. The carriage assembly is coupled to the rear arm of the frame by a spring mechanism which downwardly biases the furrow opener and closer toward the soil when the furrow opener and closer are in contact with the same. A second dual spring mechanism is situated between the hitch and the forward arm of the frame to further bias the furrow opener and closer downwardly when the furrow opener and closer contact the soil.

  • Patent number: 4893572
Abstract: In an agriculture grain drill which includes a pair of furrow forming disks rotatably mounted on a support connected with the grain drill in trailing fashion and on which downward pressure is exerted by the grain drill, a furrow closing disk depth control wheel trails the furrow disks and is vertically adjustable relative to the furrow disks by a pressure wheel support arm tongue secured to a furrow disk support bracket.
