Plural Patents (Class 111/193)
  • Patent number: 7104204
Abstract: A seeding machine is provided with a frame comprising a center frame section and left and right wing frame sections. The frame has a planting configuration and a transport configuration. The center frame section and the left and right wing frame sections each have a hollow toolbar forming a pneumatic manifold. Individual planting units are mounted to the toolbars. The pneumatic manifold of the center frame section is automatically pneumatically coupled to each of the left and right wing frame sections by a resilient bell that forms a pneumatic path between the center frame section and the left and right wing frame sections when the frame is in its planting configuration. The pneumatic manifolds are pneumatically coupled to pneumatic seed meters on the planting units by air hoses.

  • Patent number: 6640732
Abstract: The present disc opener assembly for a seed planter is for a single disc opener arrangement and is embodied in several embodiments. FIGS. 1 and 1a illustrate two embodiments of the present disc opener assembly the specifics of each will be described below. Referring now to FIGS. 1, 1a and 2, there is illustrated a disc opener assembly (10) mounted on a tool bar (7) connected to a work vehicle (5) for opening a seed trench (8) in the ground upon which the vehicle (5) moves. A main arm (12) is attached to the tool bar (7) with a disc (14) mounted for rotation on the main arm (12). A depth adjustment mechanism (40) is used to adjust the depth of the disc (14) in the seed trench (8) with a seed placement device (70) positioned in the seed trench (8) for depositing a seed (71) in the seed trench (8). The seed trench (8) having been opened by the disc (14) as the work vehicle (5) moves across the ground.

  • Patent number: 6530334
Abstract: A seed firming and furrow closing system for no-till agricultural seeders has a smooth in-furrow firming device that gauges the depth and limits penetration of the closing wheel(s). The firming device is mounted behind a seed furrow opener, and one or more spoked closing wheels are rotatably mounted behind the firming device. Each closing wheel is mounted to a support member for the firming device. An adjustable stop is provided to control the operating depth of the closing wheel relative to the firming device. During operation, the firming device moves along the bottom of the furrow to firm the seeds, and the adjustable stop maintains a selected depth of the closing wheel relative to the firming device and the bottom of the furrow. A swivel assembly allows the firming device and closing wheels to swivel from side-to-side to better track the furrow when planting around a curve.

  • Patent number: 6314897
Abstract: An improved furrow closing system and method are disclosed for agricultural seeders, particularly no-till seeders, that produce an open furrow in the soil into which seeds are placed. The closing system includes one or more spoked wheels rotatably mounted rearward of the seed furrow opener of the seeder. The vertical angle and lateral alignment at which the spoked wheel is mounted, together with the shape and length of the spokes themselves, provide a gentle closing of the furrow by slicing instead of squeezing or wedging, a shattering of the furrow sidewall and a pushing of the fragments into the furrow. The shattering of the furrow sidewall results in a more consistent furrow closure, a more rapid and uniform seed germination and seedling emergence, a higher percentage of emergence, and an improved seedling root growth. The spoked wheel has a plurality of spokes projecting radially from the hub of the wheel.

  • Patent number: 5517932
Abstract: A closing wheel for an agricultural seeding machine. The closing wheel comprises a circular disc having a series of radially extending scallops or cavities on the furrow facing side of the closing wheel. The scallops or cavities extend to the circumferential edge of the disc forming a wavy or castellated edge. The circumferential edge is beveled away from the furrow facing side of the closing wheel. The disc is also provided with a central aperture for receiving a bearing assembly for rotatively mounting the disc onto a planter frame.

  • Patent number: 5511498
Abstract: An eccentric cam locking assembly includes an elongated locking bar having a first end portion and an opposite second end portion, a first fastening arrangement defined on the first end portion of the bar for mounting the bar on a stationary member of a seed planting implement and a second fastening arrangement defined on the opposite second end portion of the bar for clamping the bar on an eccentric cam that is mounted to the implement so as to rotate relative thereto to align the position of furrow closing wheels mounted on a swing arm extending from the rear of the seed planting implement. When installed, the locking assembly inhibits misalignment of the furrow closing wheels by providing additional resistance against unintended rotation of the eccentric cam. The second fastening arrangement is releasable so that the eccentric cam may be turned when the furrow closing wheels need to be aligned.

  • Patent number: 5427038
Abstract: An agricultural planting machine has a pair of adjacent furrow opening disks that form a V-shaped furrow as the machine advances and a pair of ground engaging gauge wheels respectively mounted for rotation adjacent the opposite sides of the opening disks. The gauge wheels are journaled on the lower ends of a pair of arms having their upper ends attached to the planter frame by mechanisms that permit easy lateral adjustment of the arms to optimize the close spacing between the gauge wheels and the opening disks. Each adjusting mechanisms includes an externally threaded bushing mounted on a shaft and engaging an internally threaded bore in the gauge wheel arm so that rotation of the bushing laterally shifts the arm and the gauge wheel mounted thereon. A locking device is operative between the bushing and the shaft to selectively lock the adjusting mechanism in the desired position.

  • Patent number: 5095832
Abstract: A planter as heretofore commercially available may be modified to accept a seed trench covering assembly of superior design, also commercially available, by lengthening the frame of the planter to increase the available space between the opener and the rear press wheel and by providing front and rear adapter brackets which enable the superior covering assembly to be coupled at the front to the opener and at the upper rear to the overhead frame. Different configurations of front adapter brackets are provided to accommodate variously shaped opener housings, and different configurations of rear adapter brackets are provided to accommodate variations in frame design.
