Patent number: 5394813Abstract: An apparatus is provided for automatically inserting an elastic tape into a binding tape, and simultaneously sewing the leading and trailing ends of the elastic tape with the binding tape to the hem of a workpiece. A pair of feed rollers and a tensioning device for the elastic tape are provided above a vertical cylindrical guide. An outlet of the vertical cylindrical guide is directed toward the presser foot of a sewing machine, and shifted between positions on and outside the sewing line of the sewing machine. A cutting device for the elastic tape in the direction crossing with the advancing direction is driven by a shaft vertically placed along the vertical cylindrical guide. An advancing speed of the trailing end of the cut elastic tape extending to the presser foot is reduced by a tape pressing device until the trailing end is fed under the presser foot.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 1993Date of Patent: March 7, 1995Assignee: Pegasus Sewing Machine Mfg. Patent number: 5209171Abstract: A machine for sewing a binding tape to a cut edge of carpeting comprises a wheel-mounted sewing machine having an opposed pair of pinch rollers engaging opposed sides of the carpeting, the pinch rollers being inset from the cut edge and one of the rollers being intermittently motor driven in synchronism with the reciprocating movement of the sewing machine's needle assembly. As the one pinch roller is driven, the sewing machine moves along the floor as the binding tape is played from a reel, folded longitudinally and stitched to the carpet edge. The machine incorporates a spring-biased needle guide which effectively surrounds the needle shank as it moves reciprocally up and down to create the stitches. This guide prevents deflection of the needle and possible breakage thereof should it encounter a hard object, such as a glue bead or the like in the carpet backing.Type: GrantFiled: April 21, 1992Date of Patent: May 11, 1993Inventor: Martin L. Patent number: 5199364Abstract: A sewing machine having two bordering guides (11, 16) that are used to apply two different ribbon-like trimmings to a workpiece. The first bordering guide (11) is mounted on a machine bed (2) and oscillatable about a vertical axis spaced apart sideways from the working position located in front of a machine presser foot. The second bordering guide (16) is mounted on the machine bed (2) and oscillatable about a horizontal axis arranged at right angles to a workpiece advancing direction and below the working position. Each of the first and second bordering guides is moved from a rest position to a working position located before the presser foot so that they reach the working position alternately with the other while the stitching operation is being carried out.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 1990Date of Patent: April 6, 1993Assignee: Rimoldi, S.R.L.Inventors: Robert F.
