  • Patent number: 6283054
Abstract: A textile-edge binding assembly for applying binding tape to the edge of a textile includes a conventional sewing machine having a conventional needle and throat plate, a folding assembly, and a cutting assembly. The cutting assembly is positioned proximate the needle, and includes a first blade coupled to a second blade, with a cutting driving assembly engaging both blades. A cutting aperture traverses the first blade. The folding assembly includes a folding member, which receives and guides the binding tape to be applied to the textile. The folding member traverses the cutting aperture for application of the binding tape. A trigger is connected to the folding assembly such that the folding member can be withdrawn from the cutting assembly, and the cutting driving assembly can actuate the first and second blades to cut the binding tape. Consequently, the operator is able to provide a continuous binding tape to multiple textiles.

  • Patent number: 6029592
Abstract: The present invention, which is a cloth folding guide for sewing machine for guiding a belt-shaped cloth to fold it into a state in which the edge of the cloth body is covered, is realized in a way to insert a control member in the folding passage of the cloth folding unit constituting the cloth folding guide and either prevent folding of the edge of cloth or cancel that prevention of folding, making it possible to sew the cloth into a state in which the edge of the cloth body is covered, while folding the cloth in an optional state of folding (quadruple folding, triple folding, double folding) with a single cloth folding guide 1. In addition, a tentering member is inserted in the flat cylindrical passage in the flat part of the cloth, to guide and fold the cloth at optional width by preventing the cloth from being swung in the direction of breadth.

  • Patent number: 5394813
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for automatically inserting an elastic tape into a binding tape, and simultaneously sewing the leading and trailing ends of the elastic tape with the binding tape to the hem of a workpiece. A pair of feed rollers and a tensioning device for the elastic tape are provided above a vertical cylindrical guide. An outlet of the vertical cylindrical guide is directed toward the presser foot of a sewing machine, and shifted between positions on and outside the sewing line of the sewing machine. A cutting device for the elastic tape in the direction crossing with the advancing direction is driven by a shaft vertically placed along the vertical cylindrical guide. An advancing speed of the trailing end of the cut elastic tape extending to the presser foot is reduced by a tape pressing device until the trailing end is fed under the presser foot.

  • Patent number: 5209171
Abstract: A machine for sewing a binding tape to a cut edge of carpeting comprises a wheel-mounted sewing machine having an opposed pair of pinch rollers engaging opposed sides of the carpeting, the pinch rollers being inset from the cut edge and one of the rollers being intermittently motor driven in synchronism with the reciprocating movement of the sewing machine's needle assembly. As the one pinch roller is driven, the sewing machine moves along the floor as the binding tape is played from a reel, folded longitudinally and stitched to the carpet edge. The machine incorporates a spring-biased needle guide which effectively surrounds the needle shank as it moves reciprocally up and down to create the stitches. This guide prevents deflection of the needle and possible breakage thereof should it encounter a hard object, such as a glue bead or the like in the carpet backing.

  • Patent number: 5199364
Abstract: A sewing machine having two bordering guides (11, 16) that are used to apply two different ribbon-like trimmings to a workpiece. The first bordering guide (11) is mounted on a machine bed (2) and oscillatable about a vertical axis spaced apart sideways from the working position located in front of a machine presser foot. The second bordering guide (16) is mounted on the machine bed (2) and oscillatable about a horizontal axis arranged at right angles to a workpiece advancing direction and below the working position. Each of the first and second bordering guides is moved from a rest position to a working position located before the presser foot so that they reach the working position alternately with the other while the stitching operation is being carried out.

  • Patent number: 4903622
Abstract: Apparatus for guiding and braking elastic or nonelastic bands during sewing to pieces of fabric has an elongated flat housing of rectangular cross-sectional outline with a transversely extending channel for a band. The housing is separably affixed to the table of a household sewing machine and contains a reciprocable slide which can alter the effective width of the channel. The slide is installed at one side of the channel, and the housing supports an adjustable fabric guide at the other side of the channel. A plate-like biasing member is installed in the channel at a level above the band, and the biasing member can be moved up or down by a screw having a knurled head so as to select the force with which the underside of the biasing member bears against the upper side of the band.
