Patent number: 6308647Abstract: An interlock stitch sewing machine for blindstitch hemming with a slippage preventing device is provided which is so constructed as to prevent slippage that is likely to occur due to a position error of a lower fabric portion of the fabric portions stacked by a top-stitching at the fabric end, or a locally deformed portion due to a cutting error, in the blindstitch hemming of a tubular article such as T-shirts or underwear. A top-stiching width guide and a fabric edge guide are oppositely disposed in front of a needle location. A slippage detecting sensor that detects the edge position of the lower fabric portion to detect the presence of slippage, is attached to the fabric edge guide. When the slippage quantity detected by the sensor exceeds a permissible slippage quantity, it is determined there is possibility of slippage, and an informing means is operated.Type: GrantFiled: May 5, 2000Date of Patent: October 30, 2001Assignee: Yamato Sewing Machine Seizo Co., Ltd.Inventors: Masato Okabe, Norio Nakata, Hiromichi Kurata, Takayoshi Masaoka, Itsuo Sakai

Patent number: 5044289Abstract: A down type static folder is provided for folding the edge of a garment during hemming. The folder is mounted--such as by a pivot post and latch--in a specific predetermined position on an automatic sewing machine head. The static folder is preferably mounted in place of a conventional cloth plate on the sewing machine head. The static folder includes a plate with a tongue for holding the folded over edge of the garment in a specific relationship with respect to the needle of the sewing machine during hemming. The tongue is in very close proximity to the needle (e.g. 0.0012-0.0015 inches). A flared portion of the folder automatically opens up the blank after hemming. By utilizing the invention it is possible to provide a perfect blind stitch in a T-shirt sleeve or the like.Type: GrantFiled: May 18, 1990Date of Patent: September 3, 1991Inventor: J. Herbert Keeton

Patent number: 4784073Abstract: In a sewing machine which stores stitch control signals in an electronic memory composed with a microcomputer, incorporated therein are a stitch selecting device, a blindstitching depth setting device and a blindstitching width setting device which are both independently set by operation of said stitch selecting device. When a blindstitching pattern is selected, said depth setting device and width setting device are made operative, and needle dropping left positions are set by said depth setting device, and right dropping positions or whole amplitudes are set by said width setting device, and they are input to the memory for forming the blindstitching patterns by the stitching control signal of the blindstitching pattern.Type: GrantFiled: August 8, 1986Date of Patent: November 15, 1988Assignee: Janome Sewing Machine Co., Ltd.Inventors: Susumu Hanyu, Akio Koide

Patent number: 4739718Abstract: A method and an apparatus for sewing a waistband and applying it to a garment using a two-needle sewing machine and a blindstitch folding attachment for the waistband. A waistband is turned up to form the end of a waistband extension and is finished with a shaped seam in the region of the turnup edge. With the top sides lying one on the other, they are trimmed and then supplied by the blindstitch folding attachment to the needles spread out with the trimmed edge pointing in a feed direction. The lateral edges, turned up, are at first sewn onto the central part of the waistband while being transported backwardly. With the sewing machine stopped, a waistband beginning is clamped and extracted from a supply with the end of the waist extension moved from the folding attachment and cuffed in feed direction.Type: GrantFiled: August 10, 1987Date of Patent: April 26, 1988Assignee: Pfaff Industriemaschinen GmbHInventors: Ludwig Effinger, Alfred Boeckmann, Erich Willenbacher, Norbert Rahm

Patent number: 4512270Abstract: A hemming guide control for an overlock sewing machine which assures stitching of portions of the fabric to be sewn just forward of and behind a cross seam. The apparatus includes a hemming guide unit having a fabric guide surface, which is movable laterally with respect to the direction of sewing, structure for detecting the cross seam longitudinally behind the fabric guide surface, and structure, responsive to the detection of the cross seam, for moving the hemming guide unit away from the fabric to be sewn just before the stepped cross seam crosses beneath the sewing needle, and returning the hemming guide unit to its original position after the cross seam passes under the sewing needle, thereby to eliminate excessive pressure on the cross seam by the fabric guide surface along a segment of the sewing path from just forward to just rearward of the cross seam.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 1983Date of Patent: April 23, 1985Assignee: Yamato Mishin Seizo Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Keizo Nozaki
