Abstract: A guide is mounted to a rotary member which is freely rotatable about the axis of a needle bar, and guides a sewing material to a needle drop position of the sewing needle. A cutter device is mounted to a side of the rotary member opposed to the guide in such a manner that the cutter device is rotatable together with the rotary member for cutting the sewing material, having been paid out from the guide, at a predetermined cutting position. A retention mechanism is incorporated in the cutter device for retaining an end portion of the sewing material, at a position closer to the guide than the predetermined cutting position and in interlocked relation to cutting, by the cutter device, of the sewing material. Thus, upon restart of sewing of the sewing material, the retention mechanism retains an end portion of the sewing material.

  • Patent number: 7331301
Abstract: A method of controlling the size of a fabric of a garment is disclosed which comprises overfeeding the fabric into a sewing machine while simultaneously providing a tape or cord to stabilise the sewn fabric. The tape or cord is made from a material which can be eliminated or made extensible during subsequent processing. Preferably the tape or cord is made form a material which is water-soluble and will therefore dissolve during garment washing. However, other materials can be employed such as heat-activated or steam-activated materials which become extensible on activation. The basis of the invention is that the tape or cord produced from the material will be sufficiently rigid so as to stabilise the drawn in garment fabric for application of the waistband, and yet will be removed or become extensible in subsequent processing before it reaches the wearer so that the fabric and waistband can expand during wear.

Abstract: Apparatus and a method enable the production of novel decorative fabrics having flat narrow fabrics stitchingly secured in longitudinally compressed substrate. The narrow fabrics are such as lace, ribbon, braid or tape. The apparatus and method function so as to guide a narrow fabric into the path of a conventional reciprocating sewing needle whereby the needle on each downward stroke strikes the fabric and advances it in a compressed convoluted condition toward the needle plate whereupon the fabric is stitched in its compressed convoluted condition to a substrate or devoid of a substrate.

  • Patent number: 5203268
Abstract: An apparatus for sewing elastic hems on fabric pieces is designed as a tandem machine. In a first sewing machine (26a), an elastic band (6) is prefixed at the edge of a fabric piece (8). During further conveyance thereof, the thus created double-ply structure is folded by 180.degree. by a baffle plate (34). A pair of conveying rollers (36, 38) withdraws the double-ply structure from the baffle plate. Between the first sewing machine (26a) and a second sewing machine (26b), provided for finishing the elastic hem, there is provided a deflection roller (40) deflecting the triple-ply structure, formed by said folding and consisting of fabric edge portion, an elastic band, and a fabric folding portion, from the horizontal. The deflection roller (40) is driven in a direction opposite to the conveying direction and thus takes care that the triple-ply structure, also in case of curved seams, remains closed and is sewn correctly.

  • Patent number: 5123365
Abstract: A taped chaining thread sewing device is designed to sew by operation of an overedge sewing machine a tape into the upper surface of the fabric sent into the needle location of the sewing machine, and also sew the chaining thread cut off from the preceding fabric into the lower surface of the fabric. The tape is cut off together with the unnecessary edge portion of the fabric by a cutter at the start of sewing of the leading end from the sewing part on the fabric. Before the final end of the fabric passes the cutter, a tape guide of the taped chaining thread sewing device moves, and therefore the unsewn portion of the tape is cut off together with the unnecessary edge portion of the fabric from the sewn part by the cutter. By the chaining thread sewn into the beginning part of sewing of the fabric, it is not necessary to perform any particular bar tacking job at the beginning of sewing in a separate process.

  • Patent number: 5054407
Abstract: A presser foot for use in sewing an elongate ribbon-like material to a fabric sheet includes a sole and an adjustable ribbon/sequin guide assembly through which the ribbon-like material slidably passes. The ribbon/sequin guide assembly includes a tubular guide portion which slidably envelopes a portion of the ribbon-like material, and defines, in connection with the sole, a needle dropping gap through which the needle of a sewing machine penetrates the fabric to sew the ribbon-like material thereto. The ribbon/sequin guide assembly is laterally movable, as a unit, by the positioning of a nut on a threaded shank which is fixed relative to the sole. Extending upwardly from the tubular guide portion of the ribbon/sequin guide assembly is a U-shaped yoke which is slidably received onto the threaded shank. A nut, which is threaded onto the shank, is positioned within the yoke to move the ribbon/sequin guide assembly laterally as the nut is rotated about the shank.
