Patent number: 12054867Abstract: A sewing machine has seam-forming tools, comprising a needle for guiding an upper thread and a looper. The needle is designed as a curved needle which is pivotable about a needle pivot axis. This embodiment is such that a distance of the curved needle from the pivot axis is equal to a radius of a curve of the curved needle about the pivot axis. The looper is designed as a looper which is rotatable about a looper rotational axis and has a lower thread reserve. The looper rotational axis runs parallel to a sewing material support region. The sewing machine can be used to produce a durable seam.Type: GrantFiled: February 12, 2021Date of Patent: August 6, 2024Assignee: PFAFF Industriesysteme und Maschinen GmbHInventors: Harald Kallenbach, Berthold Becker, Stefan Samstag

Patent number: 5253600Abstract: A method for scoop stitching includes the steps of changing the angle of attack of a curved needle before and after penetration of the needle into a fabric. The needle moves along an arc around an axis. The axis is reduced prior to needle penetration and is increased after penetration to assure good penetration depth in thick fabrics.Type: GrantFiled: October 8, 1992Date of Patent: October 19, 1993Assignee: Sugahara Machine Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Masato Sugahara

Patent number: 4747358Abstract: The surgical suturing machine comprises a housing (10) on whose head piece (14) a needle holder (16) holding a needle (30), a thread catcher (18), a rotatable cylindrical body (20), a fixed foot with a plate (70) and a stretcher (22) are releasably mounted. The projecting tissue edges to be sutured together are clamped between plates (70) and cylindrical body (20). When the surgical suturing machine advances, the shaped circumferential surface (78) of cylindrical body (20) rolls along the outside of one edge of the tissue. The circumferential surface (78) of the rotating cylindrical body "grips" the outer surface of one tissue edge and guides the two tissue edges into a clamping zone which is located in the vicinity of the shortest distance between plate (70) and circumference (78) of the cylindrical body (20). The projecting tissue edges are pierced by needle (30) in the clamping zone and sutured together with the aid of thread catcher (18) and needle (30 ).Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 1987Date of Patent: May 31, 1988Assignee: G.M.Pfaff AktiengesellschaftInventors: Philip Moll, Georg Schlondorff

Patent number: 4512270Abstract: A hemming guide control for an overlock sewing machine which assures stitching of portions of the fabric to be sewn just forward of and behind a cross seam. The apparatus includes a hemming guide unit having a fabric guide surface, which is movable laterally with respect to the direction of sewing, structure for detecting the cross seam longitudinally behind the fabric guide surface, and structure, responsive to the detection of the cross seam, for moving the hemming guide unit away from the fabric to be sewn just before the stepped cross seam crosses beneath the sewing needle, and returning the hemming guide unit to its original position after the cross seam passes under the sewing needle, thereby to eliminate excessive pressure on the cross seam by the fabric guide surface along a segment of the sewing path from just forward to just rearward of the cross seam.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 1983Date of Patent: April 23, 1985Assignee: Yamato Mishin Seizo Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Keizo Nozaki

Patent number: 4205616Abstract: A sewing machine for simultaneously performing hem stitch and blind stitch. The sewing machine comprises a first looper placed above one end of a hem of cloth to be stitched and along the hem reciprocated to cross with a blind needle which is passed through the cloth; and a second looper placed above the hem to be stitched and adapted to move along a loop-like track which resembles the outline of a saddle and syncronizes generally with the reciprocation of said first looper.Type: GrantFiled: March 13, 1978Date of Patent: June 3, 1980Inventor: Masato Sugahara

Patent number: 4175499Abstract: This invention relates to a method and apparatus for forming an overedge stitch adapted to join a plurality of material workpieces along their edge. The overedge stitch of the present invention is formed with four threads. Two of the four threads are formed into material penetrating needle loops which project through the workpiece at spaced intervals. The first needle loop is interlooped at the lower point of penetration with the third or lower looper thread whereby uniting the workpieces. The looper thread, together with the second needle loop, is laterally spread beneath the lowermost workpiece to a point whereat they are interlooped with the fourth or upper looper thread. The loops of the upper looper thread shall be extended for subsequent penetration by one of the needle loops on the uppermost workpiece whereby forming an overedge stitch along the edge of the workpiece.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 1978Date of Patent: November 27, 1979Assignee: Union Special CorporationInventor: Gerald S.
