Oscillating Or Reciprocating Looper Patents (Class 112/199)
  • Patent number: 4175499
Abstract: This invention relates to a method and apparatus for forming an overedge stitch adapted to join a plurality of material workpieces along their edge. The overedge stitch of the present invention is formed with four threads. Two of the four threads are formed into material penetrating needle loops which project through the workpiece at spaced intervals. The first needle loop is interlooped at the lower point of penetration with the third or lower looper thread whereby uniting the workpieces. The looper thread, together with the second needle loop, is laterally spread beneath the lowermost workpiece to a point whereat they are interlooped with the fourth or upper looper thread. The loops of the upper looper thread shall be extended for subsequent penetration by one of the needle loops on the uppermost workpiece whereby forming an overedge stitch along the edge of the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 4133278
Abstract: An amusement device for looping yarn onto a flexible plastic framework consisting of a housing provided with a platform and a rotatably mounted handle, an advancing mechanism for sequentially gripping the frame and moving same forwardly along the platform, a needle operable in conjunction with a cam-like mechanism for rotating and reciprocating the needle in a predetermined sequence to progressively loop yarn along rows of filaments within the frame, a mechanical interface for operating both the feed mechanism and the needle in response to rotation of the handle, and a guide mechanism for moving the frame along the platform to permit knitting along a different row of filaments of the frame.

  • Patent number: 4098209
Abstract: A cylinder bed machine provided with a thread cutting device having a retractable and laterally movable assemblage which includes a thread seizing member, a knife and a thread clamp. Upon actuation the assemblage cooperatively moves forwardly and laterally to a predetermined distance from the stitching area whereat the knife and thread clamp are held. The thread seizing member continues forward movement to a position for seizing the threads situated about the looper. Upon return, the seizing member carries the threads to the knife and thread clamp position whereat they are cut and clamped. Once the threads are cut and clamped the assemblage is returned to its initial position. An adjustable guide directs the seizing member through the thread loops formed about the looper.

  • Patent number: 4079684
Abstract: A chain stitch sewing machine is operated by two substantially parallel and horizontal levers, one of which is medially pivoted in the head and the other in the base. The levers are connected together by a link and actuated by a crank directly connected to the upper lever. The upper lever, which is slidable along its fulcrum to accommodate the throw of the crank, actuates the needle bar. The lower lever actuates a swingable hook by means of a cam secured to the hook and pivoted therewith in the base. A feed dog supported for vertical and horizontal movement in the base has a camming portion interposed between the cam and hook and which is also actuatable by the lower lever and by the cam.In a modification, the upper lever, which is of the first class, does not slide along its fulcrum axis. The actuating arm of the lever is laterally flexible, in a direction parallel to the fulcrum axis, but rigid in a plane perpendicular to such axis, and at its free end is directly pivoted to the crank.

  • Patent number: 4022140
Abstract: In a stitching machine having a main shaft, a stitching needle and a looper and means for driving the shuttle so that the looper effects thread loop seizing and dropping movements and needle evading movements, the improvement in which the means for driving the looper comprises a crank rigidly connected to the main shaft, a slide mounted on the crank for driving by the crank, the slide having a free end which is formed with an outer spherical surface and an inner spherical surface which is offset relative to the outer spherical surface, a guide cylinder having a segment shaped cut out, the outer spherical surface being received in and guided by the guide cylinder, a ball having a bore and being rotatably mounted in the inner spherical surface, a looper shaft for mounting the shuttle, a transmission lever having one end rigidly connected to the looper shaft and the other end in engagement with the bore in the ball.

  • Patent number: 3952674
Abstract: The upper looper of a sewing machine is held and guided in its intermediate part by a looper guide movable therewith in the lengthwise direction. The guide rotates around a shaft upon which a rotary carriage is journalled, and is movable in a direction intersecting with the looper guiding direction, with respect to the carriage. The looper is carried on its other end by a reciprocally rotatable rocking arm. The other end of the rocking arm is connected to a driving rod which is driven by a driving shaft.
