Patent number: 6637357Abstract: A two-needle overlock sewing machine comprises a throat plate and a middle tongue. The throat plate has an opening needle hole and an outer tongue. The middle tongue is disposed parallel to the outer tongue, a thread chain is formed so as to envelop both tongues. The presser foot is disposed so as to press the cloth to the throat plate by a spring. A push-up lever lifts up the presser foot by handling. The push-up lever and the middle tongue are coupled together by a transmission mechanism. By raising the presser foot by manipulation of the push-up lever at the finish of sewing operation, the middle tongue draws back simultaneously and retreats from the needle hole. As a result, the manipulation for drawing back the middle tongue during the process of thread chain handling is not needed, and the operation is simplified.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 2002Date of Patent: October 28, 2003Assignee: Pegasus Sewing Machine Mfg. Patent number: 6164225Abstract: Since a solenoid device generates the maximum drawing force at the final position of the retracting stroke of a plunger when it retracts into the solenoid device, the drawing force becomes so large at a position close to a pressing end position of a pressing member that energy is consumed than necessity, and the solenoid device is made large-sized. Accordingly, an arch clamp foot lifting apparatus of the present invention solved this problem by connecting a wedge-shaped block member to a plunger of the solenoid device and retaining an upper portion of the pressing member on a cam surface of a block member through a driven portion.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 1998Date of Patent: December 26, 2000Assignee: The Singer Company N.V.Inventors: Singo Murata, Yasuhiro Nagayama, Naohisa Iso

Patent number: 5495817Abstract: This invention is a dual foot pedal control for a sewing machine consisting of a foot activated tiltable pedal assembly mounted on a base member which is attached to a stabilizing mat. The stabilizing mat is positioned between the legs of a sewing machine table, on which a sewing machine is mounted. The tiltable pedal assembly is connected by rod to a sewing machine control arm which activates the sewing machine. In addition, the sewing machine is speed controlled by the counter-clockwise pressure on the pedal assembly which is transmitted by rod to the sewing machine control arm. The pedal assembly, when foot-tilted clockwise, activates an air control valve which directs compressed air to an air cylinder which is connected to and opens the presser foot of the sewing machine. When tilted counter-clockwise the air control valve dissipates air to the air cylinder allowing the presser foot to lower and clamp the material to be sewn.Type: GrantFiled: May 22, 1995Date of Patent: March 5, 1996Assignee: Blough-Wagner Manufacturing Co., Inc.Inventors: Roger D. Patent number: 5220877Abstract: A pressure foot lifter mechanism is installed as an attachment on any sewing machine. In a preferred embodiment, a clamp is attached to the presser foot lifter bar of a sewing machine, and a coil spring is used to bias a cable attached to the clamp in a downward direction. The coil spring extends over and biases the presser foot lifter bar, and thereby the pressure foot, downwardly. The cable passes through a flexible tube removably attached to the outer surface of the machine. The tube extends upwardly from the coil spring, then across the horizontal body of the machine, and then downwardly to a hole in the table top of the machine. A washer or flange is placed over the hole in the table top. The tube which carries the cable is removably attached at several locations to the sewing machine. When pressure is applied to a foot pedal, a cable tension will increase and the end of the cable attached to the pressure foot lifter bar will lift the presser foot from the table.Type: GrantFiled: October 7, 1991Date of Patent: June 22, 1993Inventor: Martin Redovian

Patent number: 5042406Abstract: In a sewing machine, a pivotable lever is provided in accordance with the present invention which carries a presser foot which is brought by an actuating device from a low position to a high position. In the low position the foot is applied to the material to be sewn. In the high position the foot is spaced from the material. The lever is equipped with rolling members which rest on guide ramps. The members and ramps have a profile such that during displacement of the presser foot between its two positions, the foot always follows a vertical path.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 1989Date of Patent: August 27, 1991Assignee: Mefina S.A.Inventors: Antonio Jimenez, Michel Combepine

Patent number: 4674424Abstract: In a sewing machine, a presser foot lifting mechanism provides two springs, a first spring the compression of which can be changed by a solenoid actuated coil linkage and a second spring the compression of which can be changed by an operator's knee-action for lowering a presser foot. An operation lever rotated by an operator's knee-action controls the timing of solenoid action. A positional difference or gap is provided for the operation lever between a "solenoid on" position and a "first spring off" position, so that an operator can rotate the operation lever without feeling the resisting force of the first spring.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 1986Date of Patent: June 23, 1987Assignee: Tokyo Juki Industrial Co., Ltd.Inventors: Kengo Shiomi, Toshimasa Asai, Toshiyuka Kato
