Manual Control Patents (Class 112/299)
  • Publication number: 20100307400
Abstract: A stationary thread-cutting device for a sewing machine includes a guiding member and a cutter. The guiding member is mounted on a needle plate, and has a major wall defining a thread guiding route. The guiding route includes a lead-in area having an entry slot to permit entry of a leading end of a bobbin thread, a turn-around area for guiding the leading end, a corner piece disposed at the turn-around area, and a cutting station disposed adjacent to a lateral edge of the needle plate to define a lead-out path with the corner piece. The cutter is disposed under the major wall and adjacent to the cutting station, and has a cutting blade. After the bobbin thread is advanced beyond the cutting station, the bobbin thread is cut, thereby ensuring that a predetermined length of the bobbin thread is available for initial interlacing with a needle thread in a sewing operation.

  • Patent number: 5609117
Abstract: Obtained is a thread cutter for a sewing machine which can further readily and reliably cut a needle thread, a looper thread or a chain loop by pushing down a knob without driving the sewing machine. In this thread cutter for a sewing machine, a long groove is formed in a needle plate which is positioned behind a presser foot, and a fixed blade is so provided that its cutting edge is along an edge of the long groove. A movable blade which is pressed against the fixed blade by a plate spring is mounted on a spindle, and the spindle is rotated to vertically move the movable blade when the knob frontwardly projecting from the sewing machine is operated. The thread or the chain loop is cut by the vertical movement of the movable blade in association with the fixed blade.

  • Patent number: 4485755
Abstract: A manual thread cutter for a sewing machine is disclosed in which a cutting blade is supported on a canted surface merging toward the corner of the hollow interior of a face plate covering the head end of the sewing machine. A slot extends continuously through adjacent walls of the face plate approximately medially of the canted surface so that sewing thread may be drawn through the slot to the cutting edge of the cutting blade. A platform extends from one of the adjacent walls coextensive with the bottom surface of the slot so that thread may be pivoted about the platform and drawn into the slot to impinge upon the cutting edge of the cutting blade.

  • Patent number: 4478163
Abstract: A cutting assembly allows efficient automatic cutting of synthetic thread, and also allows manual cutting thereof. A guide block has a bottom surface past which cloth is adapted to move in a direction A, and a narrow channel is formed in the block substantially parallel to the direction A. A vacuum cut-thread removal passageway is formed in the block at the channel leading end and in operative communication with the channel, the passageway being elongated in a dimension intersecting the channel. A notch is formed in the block adjacent, but spaced from, the channel leading end and vacuum passageway. A wire of electrically conductive material is mounted so that it extends through the notch and channel and cuts thread moved into contact with it. An integral block having particular passageways formed therein provides a venturi arrangement adjacent the vacuum passageway to provide the vacuum source.

  • Patent number: 4241681
Abstract: Circumferential stitching of a tubular workpiece is assisted by means of a moving support and feed system which includes a rotatable drum of smaller diameter than the workpiece having an upper end surface positioned adjacent to a stitching station with a conventional stitching mechanism. The workpiece is prepared for stitching by pulling it axially onto the drum like a sleeve. The portion of the workpiece to be stitched is then advanced transversely through the stitching station by a puller which engages the top of the workpiece while the drum is rotated synchronously to keep the workpiece from twisting. A portion of the drive system for the stitching mechanism runs through the interior of the rotating drum. A blind cutter next to the stitching station enables the operator to cut excess thread inside the workpiece after stitching simply by moving the workpiece in a certain manner.

  • Patent number: 4108098
Abstract: A thread-cutting assembly for use with a sewing machine that always presents a sharp cutting edge for thread cutting. The assembly includes a circular cutting disk having a circumferential cutting edge, and a guard plate for preventing access to the majority of the circumferential cutting edge of the disk but exposing a portion of the disk circumferential cutting edge. The disk is mounted to the guard plate so that the disk rotates with respect to the guard means about an axis when thread to be cut by the disk is brought into engagement with the exposed portion of the disk so that a new cutting surface is exposed, and the guard plate is operatively mounted to a sewing machine. The guard plate also sharpens the cutting edge of the disk upon rotation of the disk with respect to the guard plate, the guard plate being formed of metal having a greater temper than the metal of the disk.
