Abstract: A stitchbonded fabric has a substrate material of uniform composition and physical properties and stitching threads stitched through and over the extent of the substrate in which the substrate has one or more slits defined by opposite facing lips that are unparted when the fabric is stitched. The fabric can be tensioned such that the lips part and thereby produce varied performance characteristics such as increased stretch and aesthetically pleasing effects as are useful in fabric utilities such as mattress cover skirts. The lips can pucker to give the fabric texture. The fabric can be extended and/or contracted laterally to further buckle out of plane. The puckering and buckling give the fabric additional functional properties such as dust-catching ability in cleaning wipe utilities.

The first stitching material loops around the second stitching material between the trim pieces to secure the two trim pieces together. A plurality of interwoven first strands form a first cover material and a plurality of interwoven second strands form a second cover material. The first stitching material loops around the interwoven first strands to pull the first cover material against the first seam and cover the apertures in the trim piece. The second stitching material loops around the interwoven second strands to pull the second cover material against the second seam and cover the apertures in the other trim piece.
Abstract: A method of forming cushions by needle punching is demonstrated in which superior structural integrity is achieved without adhesives or other external fasteners. The process is economical and utilizes polyurethane foam which is mechanically bound by needle punching to various polymeric fibers. In an alternate embodiment of the process, the needle punching causes the fibers to penetrate the foam block at an angle to the vertical for greater mechanical bonding between the fiber layer and the foam block. The cushion so formed by the various processes can be covered or upholstered as needed for furniture seating and other purposes.
Abstract: Apparatus and a method enable the production of novel decorative fabrics having flat narrow fabrics stitchingly secured in longitudinally compressed substrate. The narrow fabrics are such as lace, ribbon, braid or tape. The apparatus and method function so as to guide a narrow fabric into the path of a conventional reciprocating sewing needle whereby the needle on each downward stroke strikes the fabric and advances it in a compressed convoluted condition toward the needle plate whereupon the fabric is stitched in its compressed convoluted condition to a substrate or devoid of a substrate.
Abstract: A dry fiber form, useful for the preparation of fiber/resin composites, is proposed by stitching a continuous tow of structural yarn to a substrate, according to a predetermined pattern. Numerous layers, similar or different to each other, are prepared, and adhered together. In one embodiment, the fibers are stitched to a removable substrate.
Abstract: The invention provides a sheet for forming twisted flaps in a continuous arrangement which comprises a sheet material and a stitching thread attached to the sheet material to form one or a plurality rows of stitches in a wave pattern or stitches in a reticular pattern, the sheet material being formed with incisions each in each of areas surrounded by stitches. When the thread is pulled, the sheet material is opened at the incisions to form a multiplicity of raised, curved flaps inclined with respect to the longitudinal direction of the thread. Methods of producing such sheets are also provided. The sheet provided is advantageously usable as a water contact material for biological water treatment, slope protective material for civil engineering work, etc.
