Patent number: 9879366Abstract: While feeding an upholstery member, a sewing needle is reciprocated to form needle receiving holes, and an upper thread is passed through each needle receiving hole, caused to cross a lower thread, and pulled out of the needle receiving hole. The sewing cycle is repeatedly performed to form a stitch, so that stitches form a stitch line in a surface sheet. A direction of a force, which is generated by applying tension to the lower thread and which acts to rotate thread ends of a pair of adjacent stitches in each needle receiving hole about a crossing part of the upper thread and the lower thread, is defined as a rotation direction. The sewing needle is rotated in a direction opposite to the rotation direction to incline a diagonal line of the quadrangular shape forming the cross section relative to the feeding direction of the upholstery member.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 2015Date of Patent: January 30, 2018Assignee: TOYODA GOSEI CO., LTD.Inventors: Minoru Toda, Chiharu Totani, Ryota Inagaki

Publication number: 20140224159Abstract: A method for preventing seam ravel of multi-thread chain stitches is provided. After normal sewing is terminated with a looper set in a forward movement state, a state in which a needle thread loop caught by the looper is subjected to position-holding at a position closer to a forward movement end of the looper than a descent position of a needle is maintained until the needle descends through the needle thread loop caught by the looper. Thereafter, the position-holding of the needle thread loop is released to permit a sewing action for at least one stitch, thereby allowing the needle thread loop to be self-looped with a needle thread held by the needle. This surely strongly prevents the seam ravel of multi-thread chain stitches formed by the single needle, irrespective of the dimension of tension applied to the needle thread and the looper thread.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 5, 2012Publication date: August 14, 2014Applicant: Yamato Sewing Machine Mfg. Patent number: 4506611Abstract: Three-dimensional thick fabrics are made from a laminate of fabric plies by first inserting pointed rods through the laminate to form rows of holes after which needles are reciprocated through the different holes to pull loops of various yarns through the holes. The loops of yarns in adjacent holes are interlocked to hold the plies together. A guide releasably clamped to each yarn controls tension in the yarn while a doffing point is employed to insure that the needle passes through a loop just formed when penetrating the next hole to insure interlock of the loops. Hollow circular objects are formed by winding a length of fabric a selected number of times around a form, following which the pointed rods are used to form holes in the resulting laminate with the needles and yarns being used to form the interlocking loops through the thickness of the laminate.Type: GrantFiled: November 6, 1981Date of Patent: March 26, 1985Assignee: HitcoInventors: Leon Parker, Arthur R.
