And Snorkel Patents (Class 114/327)
  • Patent number: 10520112
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for laying pipelines. The apparatus is attached to a portion of a pipeline and includes a tensioning member and a buoyancy element attached to a mid-portion of the tensioning member. When the buoyancy element is submerged, the buoyancy force tensions the tensioning member, and the pipeline will take the intended deflected shape to follow seabed depressions.

  • Patent number: 9789941
Abstract: The invention allows users to be totally submerged underwater with an adequate supply of air for extended periods of time without the use of regulators, pressure vessels, diaphragm pumps or compressors, internal combustion engines or external power sources. The apparatus includes a buoyant enclosure supporting a hollow air intake pipe with a sphere shaped screen mounted on the top. The bottom half of the screen has holes to allow air into an air intake tube and to drain water out. A low pressure blower and filter assembly with a rechargeable and easily replaceable lithium-ion battery are mounted inside the buoyant enclosure. Air is drawn into the low pressure blower suction and through an air filter delivering constant air flow to the individual through an attached flexible air supply hose. Three check valves constrain air flow supply unidirectional to the individual while venting excess air. A hand pump vacates water from the mouthpiece or mask and draws in purging air while the individual is submerged.

  • Patent number: 8677920
Abstract: Various aspects can be implemented to provide a reconfigurable underwater vehicle. In general, one aspect of the subject matter described in this specification can be embodied in a underwater vehicle that includes a hull that is angular in shape and capable of avoiding sonar detection. The hull can include a bow and a stern that are substantially similar in shape. The underwater vehicle can also include a plurality of reconfigurable modules that are interconnected to form the hull of the underwater vehicle. Each reconfigurable module is capable of performing a different function associated with operation of the underwater vehicle. Further, the plurality of reconfigurable modules can be built in a warehouse away from a shipyard and assembled to form the underwater vehicle at the shipyard.

  • Patent number: 7793656
Abstract: A swim and skin-dive snorkel for providing positive end-expiratory pressure for pressure-balanced exhalation. The snorkel may include inhalation and exhalation conduits. Air can be exhaled into a chamber and released when exhalation pressure within the chamber exceeds a threshold pressure. The threshold pressure that must be overcome to achieve exhalation may be balanced against the compressive forces of the ambient water pressure acting against the user's chest and lungs, which may greatly reduce the resting expiratory flow rate, the minute respiratory rate, and therefore the overall work of breathing. The exhalation pressure may be linearly matched to the ambient water pressure as a function of dive depth, thereby discouraging exhalation while diving. A purge valve may also be placed at the lower aspect of the snorkel.

  • Patent number: 7209288
Abstract: An optical observation device is connected to an extendable and retractable snorkel tube for above-water observation during the snorkel travel (travel at periscope depth) of the submarine. The optical observation device is designed as a compact unit which consists of an optronics unit with a short-travel drive. The compact unit is assembled on the snorkel tube. At least one further compact unit is provided which comprises at least one communication arrangement with a short-travel drive, wherein this further compact unit is likewise provided on the snorkel tube.

  • Patent number: 5031565
Abstract: A two-level sea-land creeping vehicle formed by three main parts: a frustoconical bow portion which is movable independently but connected to the central part or compartment in the form of a drop of water, which is flat in the lower part and which is fixed with respect to the rear part which comprises the drive and steering assembly, as well as the breathing and safety zone. The vehicle is displaced on land by means of two rollers disposed in the lower region and by the drive of the motor, and it is likewise displaced on the surface of water due to its buoyancy and it is also displaced in a condition of dynamic immersion by the drive of the motor linked to positioning of the bow portion and hydroplanes; the air required is picked up from the surface by means of an appropriate telescopic arrangement and it has the particularity of not being hermetically sealed in the immersed condition. It is totally safe since it rises automatically to the surface when the motor stops.
