The power system has a reduced profile and is particularly applicable for watercraft having a modular construction. Preferably, the housing is constructed to removably engage a number of watercraft configurations and provides a watercraft power system that is easily serviceable, highly versatile, and dynamic.

The main box body is formed integrally with a battery storage tray which is disposed in back of the engine and fixedly disposed on a floor portion of the watercraft body. The lid member is adapted to sealingly close the main box body of the magnet box in a fluid-tight manner.

The mechanism includes one member attached to the hood, another member attached to the deck, and a stopping member. At least one of the one member and the another member is formed with a protruding portion that protrudes in the radial direction of the pivoting. The stopping member is attached to the other member, and the protruding portion engages with the stopping member when the engine hood reaches a predetermined open position so that the protruding portion stops the pivoting of the one member to lock the hood in the position.

The left side wall facing toward the cover body is provided with an opening, and a side cover is provided to be capable of being fitted to and detached from the opening. Maintenance or inspection of intake system equipment can be easily carried out with the aforementioned personal watercraft.

The seal includes a top portion and a side portion and may further include a bottom portion with the side portion being between the top and bottom portions. The seal portions cooperate to define an interior surface and exterior surfaces. The seal may be affixed to the lip of an access opening with the interior surface of the top portion abutting the outer wall of a personal watercraft top deck or other structure and with the side portion positioned along and covering the exposed edge. Where a bottom portion is provided, the bottom portion abuts the inner wall of the top deck or other structure. The seal may be formed of a polymeric or other material and cooperates with a storage compartment and/or cover to form a watertight seal. The seal may be affixed to the lip of the access opening, with an adhesive or mechanical fastener.

A projection is provided integrally on the locking member which allows attachment of the rear cover when the locking member is in the locked position, but blocks attachment of the rear cover by being sandwiched between the deck and the rear cover, when the locking member is at an unlocked position thereof. A torsion spring (biasing member) which biases the locking member toward the unlocked position is provided between the locking member and the deck. The attaching structure prevents the inner lid from being not attached inadvertently.

Abstract: A hinge assembly for mounting to a jet propelled personal watercraft including a hinge and a wire bundle assembly. The hinge can include a hinge top portion for mounting to the personal watercraft hood pivotally coupled to a hinge bottom portion for mounting to the top deck. The hinge bottom portion can have a wireway aperture therethrough. The wire bundle assembly can include several wires disposed within a tube, in turn disposed within a seal formed about the tube. The tube seal can be at least partially received within the hinge bottom portion aperture. The tube seal is preferably forced downward by the hinge bottom portion against the top deck. The wire bundle assembly can be formed as an assembly at a site distinct from the site of final watercraft manufacture. The wire bundle assembly can be inserted through the top deck, and secured in place by the hinge being secured to the top deck, over the inserted wire bundle assembly.

When maintenance of an engine and other equipment disposed within the deck structure is to be performed, the bridge member may be removed. As a result, the seat underlying opening and the rear portion opening are connected to each other and fully exposed, and therefore, a large opening can be obtained for facilitating maintenance of the engine and other equipment.

A console sits in front of a passenger seat with a console cover, which is hingedly mounted to the console to conceal a sound system.

An engaging member is provided on the mounting bracket.

A retaining member is provided for preventing the notch and the bifacial shaft from establishing an angular relation in which they can be attached and detached with each other when the notch is rotated about the bifacial shaft.

One structural aspect improves sound insulation about the engine compartment, and includes a seat design that facilitates such improvement. Insulating material is injected between the hull and inner walls and inserts. The seat design also incorporates air pockets to insulate an upper side of an engine compartment and aft compartment in which a water trap is located. The air supply and cooling system of the watercraft also uses resonator chambers to quiet engine and exhaust noise emitted through the ducts of the system. Another aspect involves insulating a portion of the exhaust system within the insulating material. These aspects of the hull construction each reduce the operating noise of the watercraft.

In one arrangement, an air induction system includes a plenum chamber unit that has a portion disposed close to the opening. The portion of the plenum chamber unit also defines another opening thereon.

Abstract: A personal watercraft has an improved ventilation system for an engine compartment. The ventilation system is disclosed in the context of both two-cycle and four-cycle engines. The system includes a plurality of ducts that are strategically positioned on the watercraft. One of the ducts extends through a sidewall of a pedestal that carries an operator seat. Another of the ducts extends through a bottom plate connecting the seat to the hull. The ducts are configured to create airflow across various engine and exhaust system components. For instance, a portion of an exhaust system is interposed between two ends of two separate ducts in one arrangement. In another arrangement, a duct draws or forces air past a portion of the exhaust system. The portion of the exhaust system can include a catalyst. The system also creates a flow of air across a cylinder head in one arrangement and a lubricant reservoir in another arrangement.
