  • Patent number: 10300845
Abstract: A deployable safety zone system includes at least a first arm mounted on a support member and being movable between stored and operating positions relative to the support member. The support member and first arm define a safety zone between then when the first arm is in the operating position. The safety system may include reflective mechanisms, light sources, and an alarming system. The alarming system may include a transmitter positioned on one part of the safety system, a receiver positioned on another part of the safety system and an alarm mechanism. A signal may be sent between the transmitter and receiver and if that signal is interrupted, a visual or audible alarm may be generated. Alternatively, the deployable safety zone system may comprise a sensor assembly disposed adjacent the support member The alarmed safety zone is defined between the support member and the sensor assembly.

  • Patent number: 10137850
Abstract: An energy absorption system for a vehicle is provided with a collision indicator to indicate whether the structural integrity of an energy absorber has been compromised after an impact. The system may be a vehicle bumper system, such as a rear bumper of a pick-up truck, and can include an inner reinforcement member configured to be secured to a structural component or frame of the vehicle. At least one collision indicator is provided, integrated with the inner reinforcement member. The collision indicator includes a sacrificial portion having a size and shape tuned to break upon being subjected to a predetermined stress threshold. The system may be provided with an outer cover member, or bumper fascia, at least a portion of which may be removable to enable a visual inspection of the collision indicator after an impact. A broken sacrificial portion may indicate the need to replace a failed component.

  • Patent number: 10062309
Abstract: A safety sign device for a vehicle may include a first sign having proximal and distal ends, and a first hinge being coupled to the proximal end of the first sign, the first hinge being coupled to a side of the vehicle. The safety sign device may include a second hinge being coupled to the distal end of the first sign, a second sign having a medial portion coupled to the second hinge, and an arm coupled between the second sign and the side of the vehicle and configured to extend and retract the first and second signs between a retracted position and an extended position. The first and second signs may be transverse to each other in the extended position, and be flat against the side of the vehicle in the retracted position. The safety sign device may include a first flexible arm coupled to the first sign.

  • Patent number: 9522629
Abstract: A hazard alert system includes a vehicle that has a door, a bed and a hitch. The bed has a back wall and a lateral wall. A frame is attached to the vehicle and the frame has a first section and a second section. A panel is movably coupled to the frame and the panel is positioned between a deployed position and a stored position. The panel provides a barrier between oncoming traffic and the door on the vehicle when the panel is positioned in the deployed position such that a driver of the vehicle may safely exit the vehicle. An actuator is coupled to the frame and the actuator urges the panel between the stored position and the deployed position.

  • Patent number: 7401570
Abstract: A marker for the wingtip or other extremity of an aircraft. The marker includes a fabric pouch having a flap containing hook and loop fasteners, to hold the pouch on the aircraft extremity. A fabric tube extends outwardly and substantially horizontally from the pouch and supports a marker flag at its tip. The fabric tube contains a breakable support rod, so that if the aircraft wingtip collides with an object, the support rod will break and the flag will droop, providing a visible indication that a collision has occurred. The broken rod can then be replaced.

  • Publication number: 20080041297
Abstract: The present invention provides for apparatus and related methods for alerting other people that are nearby to the automobile to dangerous driving conditions or accidents comprising. One exemplary embodiment of the present disclosure provides one or more sensors for an automobile that detect dangerous driving conditions or an automobile accident. The sensors communicate with a computer or microprocessor which communicates with one or more devices that release one or mores signals from the automobile to release the one or more signals. Releasing the one or more signals from the automobile alerts those nearby the automobile that there are dangerous driving conditions or an automobile accident allowing them to reduce their speed, change their driving behavior and potentially avoid accidents or significantly reduce the severity of any accident that they encounter. The present invention provides these and other vehicle safety advantages.

  • Patent number: 4825192
Abstract: A protective guard is provided for a school bus. A series of telescoping members retracts along the front of the bus, and are in a compact form when the bus is moving. When the school bus stops two of the members telescope outwardly in series and extend across the lane of oncoming traffic. The members are so long and strong that any motorist attempting to pass the bus will damage his car. Flashing red lights are mounted on the extended members. The members are extended and retracted by a lead screw. The lead screw, when it extends the telescoping members, first drives the innermost member outwardly and away from the other movable member. The lead screw then engages the other movable member and drives it outwardly and it carries the innermost member to its ultimate extended position.

  • Patent number: 4269426
Abstract: A tractor/trailer safety device includes a control mounted in the cab for operation by the driver, when he feels the trailer beginning to jackknife, to disconnect the trailer from the tractor. The control connects a source of pneumatic pressure to a piston which, when operated, lifts a bearing pin to separate the trailer from the tractor. Momentarily afterward, a pair of skid plates attached by chains are released and guided to drop in front of the front wheels of the trailer and the emergency brakes are applied to bring the trailer to a fast halt. Simultaneously, a warning flasher and distress signal system on the trailer is actuated to warn traffic and summon assistance.
