  • Patent number: 5048451
Abstract: A vehicle safety or caution sign is attached to the side of a vehicle. The sign is held by an elongated member which is coupled by a first pivot to a mounting member that attaches to the vehicle. The first pivot enables the sign to be swung in a fore and aft direction relative to and toward and from the vehicle. The sign has a bearing member secured thereto and which operates as a second pivot and is coupled with the elongated member to enable the sign to hang in a generally vertical position when the vehicle is moving at a slow speed or is stopped, and to enable swinging of the sign to a generally horizontal position when the vehicle is moving in excess of a predetermined speed.

  • Patent number: 4575189
Abstract: A bicycle reflector safety warning device which embodies reflectors, oriented for viewing from both forward and rearward of the bicycle, on both sides of the bicycle, so as to define the outside dimensions on both sides of the bicycle and to provide a lateral separation basis for the estimation of distance to the bicycle. The device, of sturdy construction, may include a mounting member for secure attachment to the bicycle seat stays; a single helical expansion spring member for flexibility and resiliency; reflector support rods attached helically, by threads, to the spring member for ruggedness and adjustability; and forward and rearward pairs of reflectors.

  • Patent number: 4483586
Abstract: The invention relates to a safety spacer for a bicycle, having an arm one end of which has a reflector and the opposite end of which is fastened to a two-part split member by means of a shaft. The parts of the split member, when assembled, form a shouldered circular circumference. The safety spacer also comprises two fastening lugs which, when pressed together, form therebetween on the one hand a cavity with a shouldered circular circumference for receiving the parts of the split member and for attaching the same and on the other hand a circular aperture for attaching the safety spacer to a tube in a bicycle. The arm can be swiveled and pivoted freely, and all the parts of the safety spacer can be linked together and attached to a bicycle by means of one single screw.

  • Patent number: 4321883
Abstract: The safety flag of the invention relates to a reflector attached to one end of a stem and a fixing means attached to the other end. The fixing means is a fixing member for attachment to the bicycle, and a joint member which has been turnably attached to the fixing member with the aid of an axle and to which the stem has been pivoted with the aid of a pivot axle so that the pivot axle is substantially at right angles against the plane of the reflector and substantially crosswise with reference to the turning axle. The fixing member and the joint member constitute bearing surfaces urged against each other, and which may if desired be provided with ridges and with grooves corresponding to the ridges for securing the joint member together with the stem and reflector member in desired turned position with reference to the fixing member and thus to the bicycle.

  • Patent number: 4116154
Abstract: A bicycle safety device indicates not only the presence of a bicycle but the minimum distance that should be maintained by other vehicles in passing the bicycle. The safety device includes a support member that mounts to the bicycle frame immediately below the bicycle seat on the seat elevation-adjustment-bolt and extends parallel with the side of the bicycle frame and forms a right angle at the end. The parallel member includes reflector means on both of it's sides and an indicating member attached to said parallel support member and extends outwardly horizontal from the side of the bicycle frame a predetermined distance. Said horizontal member may be shaped into two or more arrows to create an illusion of a moving arrow and may be built out of reflector-type sheet metal, and will protect the bicyclist from all four directions, namely, north, south, east and west, because both of said members comprise reflector means on both of the sides.

  • Patent number: 3967575
Abstract: A safety signal warning flag device for mounting on bicycles and other pedalled wheeled vehicles, in order to make them more visible to motorists, other cyclists and to pedestrians for mutual safety. The device includes a flag pole with a highly visible colored flag carried on one end of the pole, and the other end of the pole engaging a supporting base carried on a rear mudguard or fender of the bicycle. The device includes a universal swivel joint in which there is a spherical member secured to the lower end of the flag pole, and a hollow socket member forming a base on the fender, so that the flag pole can be swiveled into any desired angular position, to indicate the location and presence of the bicycle to warn motorists to keep their distance therefrom.
