Patent number: 9963110Abstract: A system for assisting with vehicle traffic stops wherein a first vehicle stops a second vehicle is provided. The system includes a control system structured to be operative from within the first vehicle and an arm assembly structured to be coupled to the first vehicle. The arm assembly includes a telescoping arm member, a drive system, and a remote assembly coupled to a distal end of the arm member. The remote assembly includes a number of electronic devices for (i) collecting information at or from a location adjacent the remote assembly and providing the information to the control system and (ii) enabling two-way communication between the first vehicle and the location, wherein the arm member is structured to be selectively elongated and retracted by the drive system under control of the control system.Type: GrantFiled: November 23, 2015Date of Patent: May 8, 2018Assignee: INVEX, LLCInventors: James G. Patent number: 9743543Abstract: An integrated anti-tip mechanism is provided for aiding prevention of an electronics rack from tipping. The anti-tip mechanism comprises a long portion with a first end and a second end, the first end coupled to a base of the electronics rack and the second end coupled to a first end of a short portion. The first end of the short portion is coupled to the second end of the long portion and a second end of the short portion further coupled to a caster. When deployed, the caster rolls in a same direction as a set of casters beneath the electronics rack. The caster is a predetermined distance off the floor such that the weight of the electronics rack is carried by the set of casters beneath the electronics rack but contact the floor if the electronics rack tips thereby preventing the electronics rack from tipping past a predetermined angle.Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 2015Date of Patent: August 22, 2017Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Dale H. Anderson, Angel E. Delgado, John C. Elliott, Grady A. Maass

Patent number: 6976446Abstract: The invention relates to an adjustable safety distance spacer for bicycles, comprising two guide tubes (1, 2), a spacer rod (5) which moves inside the aforementioned guide tubes and which passes through perforated plugs (9), a refracting rotor comprising four curved blades (7) and a circumferential protector (6) which is disposed at one of the ends of the spacer rod and which is solidly connected to said rod by means of a safety clevis (8), and two supports (3, 4) which are used to fix the guide tubes (1, 2) to the bicycle frame (10). In this way, the cyclist can adjust the size of a safety signal strip quickly, comfortably and safely using just one hand when he/she is being overtaken by another vehicle, thereby preventing the cyclist from being hit owing to the incompetency or carelessness of the driver of the overtaking vehicle.Type: GrantFiled: July 3, 2003Date of Patent: December 20, 2005Inventor: Diego BenÃtez Manzano

Patent number: 6598556Abstract: The present invention is an aerodynamic wind riding antenna ornament comprising a main body adapted to be rotatably and slidably attached to an antenna mast. The main body has an aerodynamic lifting surface to harness airflow from the movement of a vehicle to move the ornament up and down the antenna mast. The main body also has an aperture of sufficient size to allow for the device to freely slide up and down an antenna mast. Retaining means is removably coupled to the aerodynamic lifting surface near the aperture to prevent the aerodynamic wind riding antenna ornament from sliding off the top of the antenna. The retaining means can comprise a snap-on clip, spring-like clip, or a portion of an ornamental figure removably coupled to the main body. Optional stopper clamps can be removably coupled to the antenna to restrict where the device travels on the antenna. The device can have optically perceived indicia to increase the appearance.Type: GrantFiled: December 26, 2001Date of Patent: July 29, 2003Assignee: Jim McCafferty Productions, Inc.Inventor: Ron Peters

Patent number: 5038136Abstract: A traffic control device for use on school buses which locates the traffic control sign in the normal field of view of oncoming traffic, yet is robust, can be extended and retracted automatically and rapidly, and substantially does not suffer wind, acceleration or deceleration damage during movement of the school bus. The traffic control device is comprised of a traffic control display such as a stop sign, apparatus for supporting the display in a horizontal plane adjacent the vehicle, and apparatus for thrusting the display outwardly from the side of the vehicle while rotating the display through 90.degree. to change the facing direction of the display to a plane visible to the traffic. The supporting apparatus is comprised of a beam, the display being fixed to the end of the beam. The rotating apparatus is comprised of the apparatus for thrusting the beam outwardly from the vehicle whereby the display is rotated through 90.degree.Type: GrantFiled: August 2, 1989Date of Patent: August 6, 1991Inventor: Douglas Watson

Patent number: 4565152Abstract: A safety flag bus, which includes a spring-loaded recoil pulley carrying a length of cable extending from the pulley around a bushing attached to the hinge mechanism of a conventional stop arm attached to the bus. The cable extends through one end of a flag storage pipe attached to the stop arm and through a slot in the pipe, around a pulley attached to the flared opposite end of the pipe, to a point of fixed attachment to the bus. A flexible flag rod extends into the flared end of the flag storage pipe and one end of the rod is secured to the cable extending through the pipe, while the other end carries a flag normally located inside the pipe when the device is in retracted configuration. Activation causes extension of the flag storage pipe outwardly of the bus, extension of the cable from the recoil pulley and projection of a portion of the flag rod from the flag storage pipe to extend the flag outside of the flared end.Type: GrantFiled: December 19, 1983Date of Patent: January 21, 1986Inventor: Charles O.
