Patent number: 8261685Abstract: A horn guard device for a motorcycle having an aesthetic appearance improved and being capable of meeting legally-specified values for a horn sound pressure in different countries. A spiral-type horn is attached onto a down tube with its sound-pressure outlet facing the road surface. The horn is placed downward of an engine. A water-exposure guard is provided facing a front portion of the sound-pressure outlet. The water-exposure guard faces the sound-pressure outlet with a predetermined angle therebetween. The water-exposure guard can be integrally formed on a lower portion of a bracket attached to bosses extending to the side from the down tube.Type: GrantFiled: September 17, 2009Date of Patent: September 11, 2012Assignee: Honda Motor Co., Ltd.Inventors: Osamu Nishimoto, Takamasa Nagumo, Nobutaka Tokumasu

Publication number: 20080282959Abstract: A horn actuator for a vehicle horn mounts to a steering wheel hub. The horn actuator has a number of support posts that each pass through a switch cup and mount into the steering wheel hub. A switch lies within the switch cup and a spring biases the switch cup away from the steering wheel hub. An air bag plate presses against the switch cup and biases the spring to cause the switch to make contact when a force is applied to the air bag. When activated, the switch relays electricity to a vehicle horn. The support posts are connected to each other by a connector portion that provides rigidity to the structure and provides a surface for wiring of the electrical switches. Additional support posts, cups and switches are connected by additional connector portions.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 14, 2007Publication date: November 20, 2008Inventors: Roger M. Cortina, Steven L. Stram

Patent number: 7387079Abstract: A horn assembly is disclosed. The horn assembly includes a shutter than can cooperate with a horn valve. The shutter disposed on an end portion of the horn assembly can help seal the horn assembly and prevent moisture, rain or debris from entering the interior of the horn assembly. In operation, the shutter can be moved to allow the horn to provide a signal. After the horn has completed operation, the shutter can be moved back to its original sealing position.Type: GrantFiled: March 23, 2006Date of Patent: June 17, 2008Assignee: Honda Motor Co., Ltd.Inventor: William Kruse

Patent number: 6816065Abstract: An electromechanical horn warning system comprising a hollow body (2) having a cylindrical wall (8) closed by a bottom wall (9) and a flanged edge (12). At least one bobbin (3) abuts on the bottom wall (9) of the hollow body. An elastic membrane (6) is provided with at least one mobile core (7) that is fixed to the flanged edge (12) of the hollow body. At least one contact breaker (4) having a support (22) and a spring (23) are provided with electric contacts (27, 28). An insulating plate (5) is sandwiched between the support (22) and the spring (23), and is provided with at least one layer (31, 32) of resistive silk-screen ink.Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 2002Date of Patent: November 9, 2004Assignee: Fabbrica Italiana Accumulatori MotocarriInventor: Bruno Viero

Publication number: 20030136328Abstract: The invention relates to a signal-horn (1) of electromagnetic type comprising a generator (2) of sound waves having an oscillating membrane (4) actuated by an electromechanical propulsor unit (5) coupled to an acoustic amplifier (3) consisting of a duct (6) wound as a volute in which there is a first length (7) with generally constant section (8) provided with an inlet (9) for the sound signal to be amplified and a second length (10) with variable section (11) according to a conical exponential rule ending with an outlet (12) for the amplified sound signal. The ratio of the figure representing the volume (13) defined by the oscillating membrane (4) between the two points of maximum elongation (14, 15) and the figure representing the area of a cross section (8) of the first length is a number comprised between 16 and 20.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 25, 2002Publication date: July 24, 2003Inventor: Attilio Granziera

Patent number: 4802068Abstract: The invention relates to chambers which are sealed against ingress of water and are provided with an element through which air may permeate to equalize pressures of air inside and outside the chamber. The element is of a foamed silicone and has a cellular fine pored layer of predominantly open cells having a skin to be contacted by air outside the chamber. Examples of chambers described and claimed are a vehicle horn and a vehicle headlight.Type: GrantFiled: November 10, 1987Date of Patent: January 31, 1989Assignee: Dow Corning France S.A.Inventor: Pierre Mokry

Patent number: 4717906Abstract: An electric horn, especially adapted for automotive vehicles includes a pole piece and adjusting cap for the driving motor. The pole piece and adjusting cap include a cylindrical shank and an enlarged head including a conical flange. The flange terminates in an annular rim which is in contact with and secured to the horn housing by resistance welding. A magnetic circuit for the motor extends from the pole face of the pole piece and adjusting cap through the shank and the head to the housing and the cross-sectional area for the flux path through the head is at least as great as that in the shank and sufficiently large to avoid undue magnetic saturation. The rim of the enlarged head has a diameter greater than that of the shank and less than the diameter of the housing coil cup to thereby obtain increased stiffness in the connection of the pole piece and adjusting cap with the housing.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 1986Date of Patent: January 5, 1988Assignee: Sparton CorporationInventor: Robert E.
