  • Patent number: 10358891
Abstract: A method for pre-pressurizing fluid control valves is provided. The fluid control valves may be part of a hydraulic fracturing tree, or may be part of a so-called zipper frac manifold. In either instance, the method uses a lubrication unit for pre-pressurizing the cavity of a valve by injecting lubricant under high pressure. The fracturing tree or zipper frac manifold is useful for conducting hydraulic fracturing operations as part of the completion of a well. Each control valve has an upper lube fitting extending to an upper lube channel which communicates with an upper pocket. Similarly, each control valve includes a lower lube fitting extending to a lower lube channel which communicates with a lower pocket. A pressurized lubricating fluid is forced into the lube fittings to pre-pressurize the control valves prior to the fracturing fluid passing through the control valves.

Abstract: An optical cable for communication includes at least one retaining element blocked with respect to the water propagation as well as a process for manufacturing such an optical cable. The optical cable includes, in addition to the retaining element, at least two transmission elements housed within the retaining element and a water swellable yarn housed within the retaining element. The water swellable yarn is selected according to the following equation: V w V TF = k V t + R ( I ) in which Vw is the volume of the water swellable yarn after swelling upon contact with water; VTF is the total free volume in the retaining element; k is a constant?180; R is a constant?1.4; and Vt is the free volume per each transmission element. Advantageously, the optical cable is water-blocked and the water swellable yarn does not induce microbending effects on the transmission elements.

  • Patent number: 4675230
Abstract: Apparatus and procedure for applying a paint or like coating to an elongated strip article using a coating head having an open-sided slot to which coating material is supplied under pressure, and a support such as a roll around which the strip is advanced past the head for receiving from the slot a layer of paint metered between the head and the strip, wherein a load is continuously exerted on the head during operation for urging the head against the applied paint layer on the strip so as to maintain a uniform metering gap between the head and the coated strip surface. The load may be exerted by devices such as air cylinders acting on the head and capable of adjustment to vary the magnitude of the load for different coating operations.

  • Patent number: 4587139
Abstract: A rigid magnetic disk substrate is spin coated using a closely confining, stationary air barrier adjacent the surface being coated. The coating is applied through a slotted opening in the air barrier which is progressively closed as the coating is applied and completely sealed during the spin-off operation. During the application of the coating, the air barrier is positioned approximately 0.15 inch from the disk substrate surface and prior to spin-off, the barrier is moved to a position 0.025 inch from the coated surface. Further, during the high speed spin-off cycle a high kinematic viscosity gas, such as helium, is introduced into the space between the barrier and the coated surface to establish a laminar flow condition and eliminate spoking of the coated material.

  • Patent number: 4460422
Abstract: A trowel for use in troweling a fluid resin-hardener mixture into the interstices of reinforcing filaments disposed about a rotating pipe-forming mandrel is provided. The trowel is semicircular in cross-section and is biased upwardly against the rotating mandrel as it moves along the length thereof. The trowel has substantially universal movement enabling it to maintain constant contact with the rotating pipe periphery.

  • Patent number: 4425866
Abstract: Machine and method for applying liquid coatings to cylindrical articles such as plastic continues, in which each article during movement by a rotary transport is caused to spin about its cylindrical axis and a liquid coating is applied to the cylindrical surface of the spinning container. A wiper spreads the coating uniformly and a drier dries the coating. The ratio of orbital movement of the containers and the rate and direction of spin of the containers may be adjusted and controlled.

  • Patent number: 4398492
Abstract: Apparatus for gripping a tire bead, moving the tire vertically and axially over an extruder nozzle die to a position within the tire chamber where a continuous extruded strip is applied to an inside surface of the tire as the tire is rotated. The extruded strip may be applied in a plurality of side-by-side turns connected by angular portions provided by axial indexing of the tire in a predetermined amount for a predetermined time. Means are also provided for spreading the tire beads and pressing the strip against the tire surface without interfering with the movement of the tire over and around the extruder nozzle die.

  • Patent number: 4372796
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing a substantially void-free tape wrapping around a pipe having a longitudinal weld bead protruding from the surface thereof. While the pipe is simultaneously advanced and rotated, liquid viscous sealing material is applied to the pipe, and the applied sealing material is then doctored by means of at least one doctor blade. The doctor blade faces the advancing pipe surface, with the axis of the doctor blade at an angle of about 10.degree. to 50.degree. to the axis of the pipe, and is urged against the pipe so that it is resiliently deformed by the pipe and accommodates passage of the weld bead underneath it. In this way the doctor blade doctors the sealing material so that it provides a smooth transition between the weld bead and the adjacent pipe surfaces. The tape is then spirally wrapped around the pipe. The invention is particularly useful when a heated sealing material, eg.

  • Patent number: 4278711
Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for applying a light coating of fluid to the outer surface of a circumferential strip of one end of a cylindrically shaped article. The article is stabilized against angular axial movement while being advanced and rotated, in a planar path, through a treating zone. An airborne mist containing fine particles of the fluid is produced. This mist is transported to the treating zone and directed to impinge upon said circumferential strip. The impinged fluid mist is then leveled to achieve a uniform coating.

  • Patent number: 4256051
Abstract: A bead dusting apparatus for applying talc to a circular tire bead utilizing a housing with a guideway therethrough. An entrance ramp feeds beads seriation into the housing where a first pair of rollers support and rotate each bead through a tank containing talc. Each bead is then indexed into a second portion of the housing where a second pair of rollers supports and rotates the beads between opposed brushes to remove excess talc. The dusted beads are discharged by a bead indexing mean.

  • Patent number: 4190684
Abstract: Rubber is applied to a cylindrical workpiece by a feed surface arranged to form a nip with the workpiece into which the rubber is caused to be drawn by movement of the feed surface along the workpiece. The resulting compression of the rubber in the nip renders the rubber plastic so that the rubber flows onto the workpiece to form a layer of thickness determined by the spacing of the feed surface from the workpiece on the workpiece surface. The layer of rubber is then smoothed either by roller or smoothing plate and is then vulcanized.
