A drizzle-type system of dressing dispenser pipes drizzles dressing onto the outside surfaces of the rollers and a felt flap spreads the dressing and prevents waste which is characteristic of spray type systems. A quick-release mechanism associated with one end of the roller shaft where it is connected to the bracket permits the shaft to be released for the purpose of replacing worn rollers. Individual rollers are constructed using hard plastic cages which are adhesively bonded in toroidal foam volumes to prevent lateral scrunching or distortion of rollers during use.

The sensor detects the trailing edge of the moving plate and retracts the impression roller to stop the coating application. A glue spreader roll is mounted on eccentrics for adjusting its spacing from the glue roll. For relatively stiff sheets, a pair of removable presser rolls under the glue roll continuously flex the moving sheet into close contact with the glue roll and the sheet is delivered onto a dual compartment vacuum conveyor for positive ejection and accurately timed delivery to a downstream processing station. The presser rolls are replaced with a fixed bridge for handling flexible sheets, and the vacuum head is rotated while in motion by an air cylinder carried on the support arms for the vacuum head.

    Abstract: An adhesive applicator of the gravure-type is provided for continuously applying spots of adhesive onto a travelling web with the use of a roller of the intaglio type. A filling device having a spring loaded shoe element bearing against the roller fills the cavities of the roller with adhesive under pressure from a closed adhesive reservoir. The web is moved by a pin wheel disposed adjacent the roller, and spots of adhesive from the filled cavities are continuously applied to the web as it is intermittently forced to track the applicator roller by means of spaced pads provided on the wheel.

    Abstract: The mechanism of this invention deals with a series of gears for sequentially moving and controlling a pair of blade-like members associated with a liquid applicator roller, one of said blades serving to wipe excess liquid from the surface of the roller, and the other blade serving to press a sheet of paper against the applicator roller in order to transfer the metered amount or controlled amount of liquid from the roller surface to the paper. The gear train includes a manually movable gear for rendering operative a sequence control gear for bringing the blades into contact and out of contact with the surface of the roller, which sequence control gear has associated with it various linkage members and latching members for holding the blades in position against the surface of the roller and for triggering the drive motor for rotating the liquid applicator roller.
