Patent number: 8109227Abstract: A tire dressing applicator comprises a support shaft mounted between the ends of a bracket and a plurality of tire dressing applicator foam rollers mounted on the shaft for rotation both with the shaft and in unison with one another and, as necessary when contacting a tire sidewall, relative to the shalt itself to prevent and/or reduce unnecessary roller wear. A drizzle-type system of dressing dispenser pipes drizzles dressing onto the outside surfaces of the rollers and a felt flap spreads the dressing and prevents waste which is characteristic of spray type systems. A quick-release mechanism associated with one end of the roller shaft where it is connected to the bracket permits the shaft to be released for the purpose of replacing worn rollers. Individual rollers are constructed using hard plastic cages which are adhesively bonded in toroidal foam volumes to prevent lateral scrunching or distortion of rollers during use.Type: GrantFiled: October 24, 2008Date of Patent: February 7, 2012Assignee: Belanger, Inc.Inventors: David L. Patent number: 7435299Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided for selectively applying an agent-containing liquid coating to extremely tiny skin piercing microprojections (10). The coating solution is applied to the skin piercing microprojections (10) using a coating technique which selectively coats only the skin piercing microprojections (10) and not the substrate (12) from which the microprojections (10) extend, and then dried. The coating method includes providing an agent-containing coating liquid and conveying the liquid to a liquid holding surface having a coating transfer region. The depth of the coating liquid at the coating transfer region is precisely controlled. The microprojections are then immersed to a predetermined level in the coating liquid. Patent number: 6221158Abstract: A header tape for a curtain or the like comprises loop regions for use with a hook and loop fastener. The loop regions cause the header tape to be thicker in these regions. The loops of the loop regions will be pulled out under constant use unless the back of regions are coated by an adhesive. Using the difference in thickness between loop regions and the non-loop region, intermittent coating can be achieved by feeding the header tape through a small gap between a press roller and a coating roller. The gap is chosen so that it is smaller than the thickness of the loop regions but larger than the thickness of the non-loop region of the header tape.Type: GrantFiled: May 19, 1998Date of Patent: April 24, 2001Assignee: YKK CorporationInventor: Naoki Kondo

Patent number: 5339658Abstract: A method and apparatus for space dyeing a plurality of strands of yarns which are fed over a series of dye applicator rolls. Each roll is rotated in a partly submerged condition in a dye pan containing a different color. Above and offset relative to each dye applicator roll is a yarn pattern roll which carries a number of slats in a circumferential array extending beyond the periphery of the pattern rolls for contacting the yarn strands. The slats sequentially engage and deflect the yarn strands onto the surface of the respective dye applicator rolls. The slats may be positioned in selected slots in the pattern rolls to determine the pattern of color applied to the yarn. Variable speed drives rotate the dye applicator rolls and the pattern rolls independently of each other to effect the spacing of the colors and the amount of dye received by the yarn strands.Type: GrantFiled: July 14, 1993Date of Patent: August 23, 1994Assignee: Manufacturing Designs And Solutions, Inc.Inventor: Jack G. Patent number: 5318631Abstract: A pressure control device for controlling the application of pressure provided by a pressure roller to a pressing object, which includes a support member for pivotally supporting the pressure roller, a locking member coupled with the support member, an eccentric cam switchable between a locked state and an unlocked state by the locking member, a clutch for rotating the eccentric cam by a driving means connected thereto, and a solenoid for pushing or pulling the joint portion of the support member and the locking member so as to allow both members to move pivotally. When the solenoid is turned on and the locking of the eccentric cam is released from the locking member, the clutch rotates the eccentric cam thereby moving the solenoid. The pulling force of the solenoid pivotally move the support member strongly enough to allow the pressure roller to press the pressing object. Patent number: 4737378Abstract: Prior to starting, the size of a clearance, defined on a second end side of a roll when an end of a coating roll is brought into contact with a first end side of a doctor or back-up roll, is measured and stored as data in a memory. After starting, the amounts of movement of both ends of the rolls are controlled in driving of the doctor or back-up roll to be in contact with/separated from the coating roll so that the second end side of the roll is moved by a distance larger by the clearance size than the first end side of the roll on the basis of the clearance size data. Thus, the clearance size is corrected so that the outer peripheral surfaces of the rolls driven to be in contact with/separated from each other are continuously retained parallel in arbitrary moving positions.Type: GrantFiled: March 2, 1987Date of Patent: April 12, 1988Assignee: Dainippon Screen Mfg. Patent number: 4530306Abstract: A device which provides an economical means for coating offset plates on one side with a solvent based coating. An offset plate is advanced along a feed table by a suction belt toward a roller assembly consisting of a fountain roller, a metering roller, a coating roller and an impression roller. The fountain roller transfers liquid from a supply of coating liquid to the metering roller which transfers a predetermined amount of liquid to a moving plate by the coating roller. The impression roller forces the plate into engagement with the coating roller. A photoelectric sensor detects the leading edge of the plate as it moves through the roller assembly and moves the impression roller toward the coating roller to begin the coating application. The sensor detects the trailing edge of the moving plate and retracts the impression roller to stop the coating application. The speed of the feed belt, discharge belt and rollers are synchronized to accurately control the thickness of the coating applied to the plate.Type: GrantFiled: January 6, 1984Date of Patent: July 23, 1985Assignee: Graphic Enterprises of Ohio, Inc.Inventor: John C. Patent number: 4208956Abstract: A filter is formed by placing increments of glue in spaced apart relation on a moving stream of plug wrap paper and thereafter depositing alternating fibrous filter sections on the glue increments. Particulate material is then deposited between the fibrous filter sections and the plug wrap paper wrapped about the filter sections to form an endless rod. Two-filter filter plugs are severed from the rod by cutting through the unglued fibrous filter section and thereafter the charges of particulate filter material are compacted by moving the unglued outer filter sections of each plug inwardly. Each plug is then joined to two tobacco columns and cut in half. The resultant filters each have a fibrous filter section at the exposed end glued to the plug wrap paper, a compacted particulate section and an unglued fibrous filter section at the tobacco end.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 1978Date of Patent: June 24, 1980Assignee: Liggett Group Inc.Inventor: Floyd V. Patent number: 4006704Abstract: A gluing machine employs substantially linear conveying motion and has easily installed change parts, which adapt the machine to handle thin paper or relatively heavy cardboard. A vacuum head with compound motion delivers a sheet of cardboard or paper from a vertical stack by lifting the leading edge and advancing it substantially horizontally between drive rolls which deliver the sheet under a glue roll. A glue spreader roll is mounted on eccentrics for adjusting its spacing from the glue roll. For relatively stiff sheets, a pair of removable presser rolls under the glue roll continuously flex the moving sheet into close contact with the glue roll and the sheet is delivered onto a dual compartment vacuum conveyor for positive ejection and accurately timed delivery to a downstream processing station. The presser rolls are replaced with a fixed bridge for handling flexible sheets, and the vacuum head is rotated while in motion by an air cylinder carried on the support arms for the vacuum head.Type: GrantFiled: April 10, 1975Date of Patent: February 8, 1977Assignee: FMC CorporationInventor: Giorgio Perondi
