Abstract: A micro-extrusion printhead assembly utilized in a micro-extrusion system to form parallel extruded lines of material on a substrate includes a material feed system for pushing/drawing materials out of extrusion nozzles defined in the printhead assembly, a Z-axis positioning mechanism, and a base. The micro-extrusion printhead includes a layered nozzle structure sandwiched between back and front plate structures. • Patent number: 7607469
Abstract: The invention relates to an improved system for gluing the bottoms of bags. The inventive system comprises a block which is used to glue the bottom-forming flaps and which is equipped with a relief. The relief is formed by a series of parallel rows which are disposed longitudinally in the direction of rotation of the gluing roller and which determine the same number of ridges as rows, having corresponding grooves therebetween. In this way, only the ridges are impregnated when adhesive is spread on the block, such that parallel lines of glue are applied to the flaps. In addition, the same block is used to glue a reinforcing strip to the bottom of the bag that has been formed by folding and gluing the above-mentioned flaps, such that the glue is applied in parallel lines. The glue-applicator points, which are used to apply dots of glue between the bag-forming sheets, are equipped with an improved application face which prevents the build-up of glue on the walls of the glue-applicator point.

A drizzle-type system of dressing dispensers pipes drizzles dressing onto the outside surfaces of the rollers and a felt flap spreads the dressing and prevents waste which is characteristic of spray type systems. A quick-release mechanism associated with one end of the roller shaft where it is connected to the bracket permits the shaft to be released for the purpose of replacing worn rollers. Individual rollers are constructed using hard plastic cages which are adhesively bonded in toroidal foam volumes to prevent lateral scrunching or distortion of rollers during use.

Abstract: Two axially parallel rolls are pressed against each other in a device for producing and/or treating a moving material web. Sensor elements are arranged in the force transmission path running from the force-producing elements via the rolls, outside roll bodies of the two rolls. As a result of displacing the sensor elements out of the roll bodies of the rolls, the production of the rolls is less complicated and less expensive. No sensors have to be embedded in the roll bodies, which opens up the possibility of using standard rolls. In addition, the occasional grinding of the rolls can in this way be performed without any regard to the sensor elements. Nevertheless, the pressure prevailing between the rolls can continue to be measured directly, since the sensor elements are arranged in the transmission path of the pressing force.

  • Patent number: 6228168
Abstract: An automated priming system and method for applying a liquid, such as a primer or treatment liquid, to a substrate provides a surface variation sensitive applicator assembly which applies a constant pressure to the substrate during the liquid application process and, therefore, provides a process which achieves a more uniform application path and coating thickness. The automated system includes a robot and at least one applicator assembly. The applicator assembly includes a base and an applicator tip mounted to the base. The applicator tip is adapted to receive a supply of liquid. The robot holds the base of the applicator and positions the applicator tip on the substrate for applying a liquid onto the substrate. One of the applicator and the robot is adapted to apply a constant pressure to the substrate during the application process.

  • Patent number: 6221162
Abstract: An apparatus for supplying a liquid resist into a through hole part of an electroconductive substrate comprises an application roll, rotating in a single rotational direction, for coating the electroconductive substrate carried by a carrier with a liquid resist. An opposing member opposed to the application roll enables the electroconductive substrate carried by the carrier to be held. A control unit controls the carrier so that the carrier moves the electroconductive substrate between the application roll and the opposed member in a first carrying direction, and subsequently in a second direction inverse to the first carrying direction.

  • Patent number: 6132804
Abstract: A process for producing high quality reverse osmosis, nanofiltration, and ultrafiltration membranes in a high speed process provides membranes which have excellent rejection characteristics coupled with high flux capabilities. The process employs tandem coating techniques to coat a microporous substrate with a thin membrane on the order of 25 .ANG. to 1.0 microns. The tandem coating process comprises tandem offset gravure and subsequent slot die coating applicators, or alternatively comprises tandem slot die coating applicators. For reverse osmosis and nanfiltration membranes, a wet-on-wet coating process is used to coat a porous substrate first with an aqueous solution, and then with an organic solution to produce a cross-linked, interfacially polymerized composite membrane. Single slot coating applicators are utilized to produce ultrafiltration membranes.

  • Patent number: 5944898
Abstract: An apparatus for successive application of two coats of at least one coating medium on one side of a traveling fiber material web includes a rotating backing roll and a first rotating applicator roll having a roll surface. The first applicator roll and the backing roll define a first press nip therebetween. A first applicator assembly is positioned in association with said roll surface for applying a first coating medium to the roll surface. The first applicator assembly and the first applicator roll conjunctively define a first indirect applicator for applying the first coating medium to a first side of the fiber material web. A first drying apparatus is positioned after the first press nip relative to a direction of travel of the fiber material web. The first drying apparatus is positioned in association with the first side of the material web. A second applicator is positioned after the first drying apparatus relative to the direction of travel of the fiber material web.

  • Patent number: 5922128
Abstract: In a device for the coating of a running web of paper or cardboard, provisions are that in a press gap formed between two rolls a coating substance applied in a very small quantity on the surface of the one roll is first pressed on the web leaving a very thin coat on the web which, however, covers all spots including the "mounds" of microroughness. Next, the second coat can be applied and dosed on the still moist first coat with the usual means. In the process, the first coat is preferably dosed on the shell of the first roll, by means of the peripheral grooves of a rotary doctor. The same may be performed also as regards the second coating on the web.

Abstract: This invention describes a process and an apparatus for the raster-formed coating of web-shaped flexible flat articles (3) with hot-melt adhesives in a screen printing process by filling all perforations of a rotary screen printing stencil (1) by means of an outer blade (6) with a solution or dispersion of a paste (2), by placing the flat article (2) on the rotary screen printing stencil (1) and by subsequently additionally applying a paste (5) by means of an inner blade (4). On the finished product, paste (2) produces a plastic base layer which is not or only slightly capable of thermal activation and paste (5) produces a hot-melt adhesive top layer which is easily capable of being thermally activated. Following the drying and sintering of the double-layered printed flat article (8), it can be used as an attachable inlay material for items of clothing.

  • Patent number: 5743964
Abstract: A roll coating system for coating strip metal having a plurality of coating head rolls mounted on support sleds capable of linear translation along a single rail. Precision linear actuators are located between each support sled and between one of the sleds and a fourth sled. A splice traverse mechanism actuated by a piston/cylinder displaces the fourth sled. Each of the rolls can be independently displaced or the entire head can be displaced by the splice traverse mechanism. Force measurement sensors are located in the support sleds for an accurate measurement of nip pressures between the respective rolls. The elastic response of the support sleds may be varied to alter the natural resonant frequency of the coating system. The movement of a pan lift mechanism is coupled to the movement of the pickup roll so as to eliminate the chance for collision therebetween.
