Heat-liquefied Coating Material Patents (Class 118/271)
  • Patent number: 11760699
Abstract: A method of altering a surface of a ceramic matrix composite to aid in nodule removal is described. A fiber preform comprising a framework of ceramic fibers is heated to a temperature at or above a melting temperature of silicon. During the heating, the fiber preform is infiltrated with a molten material comprising silicon. After the infiltration, the fiber preform is cooled, and the infiltrated fiber preform is exposed to a gas comprising nitrogen during cooling. Silicon nitride may be formed by a reaction of free (unreacted) silicon at or near the surface of the infiltrated fiber preform with the nitrogen. Thus, a ceramic matrix composite having a surface configured for easy nodule removal is formed. Any silicon nodules formed on the surface during cooling may be removed without machining or heat treatment.

  • Patent number: 5242497
Abstract: An assembly for applying coating material to top edges of containers is provided with a porous applicator which may be saturated with the molten coating material. The applicator assembly is especially adapted to contact the top curl of paperboard containers so that an amount of the molten coating material which saturates the porous applicator may be transferred to the top curl and thereby increase the top curl's circumferential rigidity upon solidification. The applicator assembly is preferably positioned laterally parallel of a linear treatment path along which the containers are conveyed in an inverted manner. Each container is rotated during conveyance along the linear treatment path such that the entire circumference of the top curl is brought into contact with the elongate porous applicator saturated with molten coating material.

  • Patent number: 4963213
Abstract: Disclosed are a method of and a device for gluing objects together in which adhesive agent is supplied to a flexible porous sheet, such as a net, that is suspended so as to allow it to be pulled down. The method and device are particularly applicable to objects having concavo-convex adhesion surfaces which are adapted to be engaged with each other; the objects are brought together in such a manner that they retain between their adhesion surfaces the porous sheet to which adhesive agent has been supplied. Afterwards, the objects are separated from each other, the porous sheet being pulled upwards. Then, the objects, to which adhesive agent has been applied, are brought together again so as to be glued to each other.

  • Patent number: 4909182
Abstract: A nozzle having a flexible blade member with a flat adhesive-receiving surface in combination with a rotary transfer roll and side wall elements forms a reservoir for adhesive "upstream" (in the direction of roll rotation) of the line of contact of a straight edge of the surface with the roll surface, the arrangement being such that a layer of the adhesive, doctored by blade member to control its thickness and with its width controlled by the wall elements, is applied to the roll surface and carried thereby to the operating locality. An adhesive supply system is also provided for supplying adhesive to the reservoir, said system including a melting device for adhesive in solid form and pressure control means for controlling the pressure under which the adhesive is supplied.

  • Patent number: 4604300
Abstract: The present invention is for a method of applying high solids enamel coatings to magnet wire. The method comprises reducing the viscosity of the enamel to a processable range and then applying the heated enamel to the wire via a felt applicator. The coated wire is then passed through an oven where the enamel is cured. This method provides a process for applying high solids, viscous enamels to fine magnet wire substrates without the disadvantages of solvent dilution. The result is higher quality coatings, faster processing time and reduced process costs.

  • Patent number: 4601918
Abstract: The present invention discloses a method and apparatus for applying high solids enamels to wire wherein the enamel is heated to lower its viscosity to below about 200 cps, the heated enamel is then passed through a discrete, enclosed passageway in a first felt pad. The wire to be coated is then drawn between the first felt pad and a second felt pad in contact with the first felt pad. The wire is passed substantially perpendicular and in front of the discrete passageway of the first felt pad when it is coated with the enamel. The enamel is then formed uniformly and circumferentially about the wire as it exits the felt pads and cured in a curing oven.

  • Patent number: 4589950
Abstract: An adhesive or sealant is applied to a product by receiving and maintaining the adhesive in liquid form, distributing it to form a film of the material over a predetermined exposed surface area and moving the product relative to the surface area to transfer the material to the product. This is accomplished by use of a housing in which is defined an outwardly opening cavity. A port in the housing admits the liquid material into the cavity. A pad of porous open-cell metal foam covers the opening, with the density of the foam being selected relative to the viscosity parameters of the adhesive to wick or ooze the adhesive from the cavity through the foam and present a film of the adhesive over the outwardly facing surface of the pad. A screen may be disposed over the outwardly facing surface of the pad.

Abstract: Silicon-infiltrated, reaction-bonded silicon carbide molded bodies for application in machine building are produced by means of a siliconizing apparatus, comprising a graphite plate coated with boron nitride, a porous silicon carbide plate coated with a layer of boron nitride, silicon carbide and carbon and a layer of lumpy metallic silicon inserted between the two plates. Furthermore, following the heating and solidification of the liquid silicon, wherein due to the increase in volume of the silicon, beads of silicon appear at the surface of the molded body, these may be easily removed when the infiltrated silicon carbide molded bodies are cooled in a nitrogen atmosphere.

  • Patent number: 3965853
Abstract: A contact fuser assembly for use in an electrostatic reproducing apparatus including an internally heated fuser roll structure comprising a rigid or non-deformable, thermally conductive core capable of interacting with a material applied thereto in such a manner as to form a thermally-stable interfacial coating intermediate the surface of the core and a release coating also formed thereon. The interfacial coating strongly adheres to the core surface and prevents toner material from contacting the outer surface of the core. The combined coatings havve a sub-micron thickness and therefore present a minimal thermal barrier to the energy being conducted outwardly by the core. The fuser assembly is characterized by the provision of means for controlling the interaction between the core and the material.
