Abstract: In a continuous surface treating method and apparatus with an inline centrifugal separator, an object to be treated is contained in a basket and hung from a hanger of an overhead type and a series of surface treatments of the object is carried out by using a continuous conveyer of a power and free type. By using a hanger attach-detach conveyer, the object is moved from a main conveyer to a sub-conveyer and an excessive treating liquid attached to the object in a previous process is separated by using the centrifugal separator. Then, the object is returned from the sub-conveyer to the main conveyer to perform a next process. The surface treating apparatus includes the rotatable basket for containing the object.

Abstract: In a coater for applying a liquid onto a surface of a moving object, the coater includes a front edge surface, a back edge surface and a slit, wherein the back edge surface has an entrance edge from which the coating liquid is introduced into a gap between the back edge surface and the surface of the object and an exit edge from which the extruded coating liquid leaves the gap with the movement of the object. The back edge surface further is arranged in relation to the object so as to satisfy following two formulas; 1.0 mm.ltoreq.L.ltoreq.30 mm and 1.8.ltoreq.h/h.sub.0 .ltoreq.3 where L is a length of a contour of the back edge surface projected on the surface of the object between the entrance edge and the exit edge; h is a gap distance at the entrance edge; and h is a gap distance at the exit edge.

  • Patent number: 5294257
Abstract: An apparatus and method for spin coating a substrate with a liquid material which prevents the material from contacting the edge or backside of the substrate or forming an edge bead at the periphery of the substrate is disclosed. A spin chuck is equipped with a conformable elastomer which seals the edge of the substrate and forms a continuous surface with a planar surface of the substrate for the liquid material to flow off the substrate unimpeded during the spin coating process. As the elastomer is resilient, small variations in substrate size and shape are automatically compensated. None of the substrate area is lost to masking and/or removal processes as in the prior art, allowing the entire substrate area to be available for further processing.

  • Patent number: 5059453
Abstract: Method for coating the inside surface of an elongated metal tubular body which includes placing a plurality of elongated pieces of coating metal into the bore of the tubular body in alignment with the axis thereof, to provide a constant amount of coating metal along the length of the bore. The coating metal melts below the melting point of the tubular body. The bore is freed of oxygen by evacuation or by purging with inert gas. The tubular body and the elongated pieces of coating metal within the bore are then rotated at a high rotational speed sufficient to distribute the elongated pieces against the bore surface while maintaining the constant amount of coating metal along the length of the bore. The rotating tubular body is then heated sufficiently to melt the coating metal pieces and insufficiently to melt the tubular body. Melted coating metal is spread about the bore surface by means of the centrifugal force imposed upon the melted coating metal by the continued rotation of the tubular body.

  • Patent number: 4995331
Abstract: An apparatus for glazing an article of earthenware or porcelain such as e.g. a plate or the like includes a capstan with a plurality of arms each supporting a workpiece holder for at least one glaze vessel which is rotatable about its axis and tiltable relative to the supporting arm. Before being fed to a glazing station, the article is accurately aligned and imprinted with a mark. A suction unit transfers the article from the centering station to the glaze vessel which is rotated and tilted so as to dip the article in a glaze mass. After surface drying the glaze on the article by initially holding it vertically and then horizontally, the article is transported to a transfer station for placement on a spongy belt which removes excess amount of glaze from the bottom area of the article. The glaze vessel, after being cleared by removing the plate, is refilled with fresh glaze mass in a charging station which is arranged prior to the glazing station.
