  • Patent number: 10215769
Abstract: A device and method for rapid assessment of sensor response times as the sensor is rapidly switched between two or more calibration fluids discharged from a multi-fluid jet nozzle. The novel method includes exposing the sensor to a first calibration fluid and then rapidly exposing it to a second calibration fluid without removing the sensor from the fluid phase. The sensor's output is then assessed to determine its response time. This method is simpler and less expensive than other methods and allows improved precision timing of the change in calibration fluids without changing flow velocity or exposure to other media or viscosities. An embodiment of the novel device is a dual-fluid jet nozzle that ejects two distinct jets of calibration fluid at the same velocity through a single nozzle discharge aperture divided by a sharply-edged boundary wall.

Abstract: In an aspect of the coating method according to the present invention, the lower limit decompression degree PS1 at which a seam trouble occurs is obtained from the formula of the viscocapillary model. According to the aspect of the present invention, coating is performed by setting the Pb so as to satisfy PS1<P0?Pb?PS1+0.2, and therefore, stepped unevenness can be effectively suppressed so that a seam trouble does not occur. It goes without saying that the aspect of the present invention can be applied to high viscosity/thick film coating, but it is effective especially in the case where a coating solution with low viscosity (for example, 0.005 Pa·s or lower) is coated to be an ultra-thin film (for example, 10 ?m or less in the wet film thickness) where stepped unevenness easily occurs.

Abstract: A micro patch coating device includes a coating die with a micro channel structure. A coating fluid is supplied through a coating fluid inlet and an auxiliary fluid is supplied through an auxiliary fluid inlet. After a segment of a predetermined length of the coating fluid is formed at a two-phase fluid output section, the coating fluid flow is intercepted. In turn, a segment of predetermined length of the auxiliary fluid is formed at the two-phase fluid output section, and then the auxiliary fluid flow is intercepted. A two-phase fluid is formed and flows out of the coating die to the substrate to form micro patches thereon.

Abstract: A device for flowing a liquid on a surface comprises: a flow path. A first port supplies the liquid to one end of the flow path and applies a first port pressure for retaining the liquid when the flow path is remote from the surface. A second port receives the liquid from the other end of the flow path and applies a second port pressure such that the difference between the first and second negative port pressures is oriented to promote flow of the liquid from the first port to the second port via the flow path in response to the flow path being located proximal to the surface and the liquid in the device contacting the surface. The first and second port pressures are such that the liquid is drawn towards at least the second port in response to withdrawal of the flow path from the surface. Such devices may employ microfluidic technology and find application in surface patterning.
