Rotating Work About An Axis Through Itself During Coating Patents (Class 118/416)
  • Patent number: 5366552
Abstract: A method and an apparatus capable of efficiently producing an epitaxial layer grown at one time on a multiplicity of substrates with uniform thickness and quality are disclosed, in which a sealable growth chamber filled in a solution used to achieve liquid-phase epitaxial growth and holding therein at least one row of thin plate-like substrate is turned about the horizontal axis. The growth chamber is tilted or overturned so that the solution in the growth chamber is stirred homogeneously and the effect of gravity on the solution is excluded. A solution chamber for holding therein the solution is connected with the growth chamber via a gate valve. After the liquid-phase epitaxial growth, the growth chamber is overturned and then the gate valve is opened so that the solution in the growth chamber returns to the solution chamber. Thus, reuse of the solution is possible.

  • Patent number: 5360516
Abstract: This invention relates to the treatment of substrates with fluidized material in repetitive patterns during application cycles. The treatment patterns made with this invention can be altered by changing machine operating parameters. The patterns of fluidized material are applied to substrates using intermittent charges of compressed air. The intermittent charges of compressed air pass through a venturi slot which creates a region of low pressure in the charges adjacent to a region where the fluidized material accumulates between application cycles. This region of low pressure helps to entrain the fluidized material in the charge of compressed air. After the fluidized material is entrained in the charge of compressed air, the charge deposits the fluidized material on the substrate.

  • Patent number: 5338569
Abstract: A method is disclosed for coating dowels with a substantially uniform coat of water soluble glue. A plurality of dowels and a preselected amount of liquid, water soluble glue are placed in a closed container. The container is rapidly shaken so that the container moves in a combination oscillating motion comprising an up and down movement and a back and forth movement that is substantially perpendicular to the up and down movement. Dowels coated with the liquid, water soluble glue are removed from the container and deposited on a drying surface. The dowels are dried by applying heat and a stream of air to the dowels. When the exposed surface of the coat of water soluble glue on the dowels has become essentially tack free but before the coat has dried completely, the dowels are rotated about their longitudinal axes so as to separate any dowels that are stuck together and to free any dowels stuck to the drying surface.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for spin coating a substrate with a liquid material which prevents the material from contacting the edge or backside of the substrate or forming an edge bead at the periphery of the substrate is disclosed. A spin chuck is equipped with a conformable elastomer which seals the edge of the substrate and forms a continuous surface with a planar surface of the substrate for the liquid material to flow off the substrate unimpeded during the spin coating process. As the elastomer is resilient, small variations in substrate size and shape are automatically compensated. None of the substrate area is lost to masking and/or removal processes as in the prior art, allowing the entire substrate area to be available for further processing.

Abstract: The surface treatment is carried out by employing an apparatus comprising a vessel and a holed container rotatably equipped in said vessel.Materials to be treated are filled into said holed container of said apparatus then treating liquids and/or washing liquids are charged in order into said holed container according to the treatment process and said holed container is driven to rotate thus treating liquids and/or washing liquids contact whole surface of said materials and the treatment is carried out. After the treatment, treating liquids and/or washing liquids are effectively removed from the surface of said materials by the centrifugal force accompanying with the rotation of said holed container.

Abstract: An automatic electroplating machine has a plurality of plating barrels supported by cantilever arms on an elevator-conveyor for intermittent movement along a continuous, generally horizontal path to and through a plurality of work stations. Groups of barrels are lowered into and lifted out of a series of treating tanks located at work stations and along a rectilinear portion of the conveyor path. When the barrels are in lowered positions pinions on some of the barrels are engaged with reciprocally movable rack assemblies which oscillate the barrels in unison about horizontal axes and within the associated treating tanks.

Abstract: Apparatus for sputtering printing or similar type cylinders by means of r.f. sputtering in which a cylindrical metal substrate is mounted on a mandrel which is installed in a sputtering chamber. The apparatus includes targets arranged around the cylindrical substrate, the substrate comprising the anode or being mounted on the anode. The sputtering operation is arranged to apply a highly uniform coating of a photoconductive material on the substrate and the structure is arranged so that the finished cylinder can be removed from the sputtering chamber along with the mandrel and replaced by another metal cylindrical substrate on another mandrel. In this way a printing cylinder comprising a seamless thin-walled metal sleeve having a coating of photoconductive material is easily produced economically and rapidly, said coating having uniform thickness and properties throughout.

  • Patent number: 4013807
Abstract: A workpiece such as an electronic component, comprising a body and leads that project in one direction from the body, has its body coated by immersing it in a fluidized bed while the workpiece is vibrated. Immersion depth is such that the uppermost surface of the body is at or just slightly below the top surface of the fluidized bed. Vibration of the workpiece during immersion ensures a uniform thickness coating all over the body and prevents "pants legs" on the leads.

  • Patent number: 3999509
Abstract: Method and apparatus for providing a completely encircling coating of an organic polymeric material on a localized region of a glass container. At a coating station, a glass container is rotated through at least 360 degrees. During the rotation, a material application head furnishes fluid organic polymeric material to the surface of the localized region of the glass container which is to be coated. Stop members hold the application head a fixed distance from the localized region and determine the perimeters of the encircling coating and a doctoring edge of the application head helps form a uniform layer or coating of the organic polymeric material completely encircling the localized region.

Abstract: A preheated workpiece having a surface with substantially arcuate curvature is supported by rotatable supporting means which has limited contact with said surface. Heat fusible plastic material in finely divided solid form is propelled against all parts of the surface of the workpiece, to be melted by its heat and fuse into an overall coating. During such coating, and thereafter until the material solidifies to substantial hardness, the supporting means is rotated, imparting rotation to the workpiece by its rolling contact therewith, and is cooled to maintain its temperature below the melting point of the material.
