  • Patent number: 9193089
Abstract: An apparatus for providing self-adhesive film sheets includes a film dispenser that provides a film strip with at least one carrier film and a film for use that is self-adhesive on at least one side. A conveying device conveys the film strip from the film dispenser together with the carrier film on a guide track to a removal station, at which the film for use is removed from the carrier film. The removal station has a carriage with a separating edge over which the carrier film can be drawn by the conveying device. An actuator displaces the carrier film along the guide track. The removal station includes a gripper for gripping a film sheet located in front of the separating edge and holding the film sheet stationary while the carriage is displaced on the guide track by the actuator counter to the conveying direction of the carrier film. Simultaneously, the carrier film is drawn away over the separating edge for detachment from the film sheet.

  • Patent number: 7101441
Abstract: A system and method for dispensing roll material is described that substantially prevents toilet paper runaway and is useful in reducing irritation caused by using dry toilet paper. In one embodiment, the dispenser has a structure that has a thin, but strong curved, rigid arm with a tooth that is biased to engage the toilet paper roll in such a manner that it will only permit the roll to turn only in one direction. If the roll is attempted to be turned in the opposite direction, the tooth, which is disposed toward the roll, will engage the roll and prevent rotation in the second direction without substantially damaging the toilet paper on the roll. In a second embodiment, the toilet paper dispenser will dispense a predetermined amount of toilet paper into a receiver that has a sufficient size that it will fold over onto itself a predetermined number of times.

  • Patent number: 5439704
Abstract: A powder coating line for coating either coiled strip or pre-sheared and punched blanks is provided. In order to coat strip a catenary portion of the strip is suspended through a powder coating subsystem which includes a powder coating booth and a curing oven. The coated strip is the recoiled onto a rewind reel. In the alternative, the strip may be stopped and sheared at an input region and presheared blanks introduced to the powder coating subsystem. The blanks are placed on a belt conveyor, which transports them into the powder coating booth. The blanks are then passed in a conveyor through the powder coating booth and over for subsequent restacking. After passing out of the oven, and before coiled or stacking occurs, the strip or blanks pass through a quench and an air dryer. The powder coating subsystem can be incorporated into a larger pre-treating, cleaning, embossing or post-processing line.

  • Patent number: 5073219
Abstract: In a process for mass producing optical storage sheets, an elongate film of a liquid crystalline material is fed lengthwise along a path through an aligning gate. The aligning gate applies to successive areas of the film a field which aligns the molecules. The field may be an electric field and/or a shear field. An aligning layer, such as a surfactant layer may also be used for alignment of the film areas. The aligned film may then be cut into pieces for use as microfiches or microfilms. The film material is preferably a liquid crystal polymer material.

  • Patent number: 4989651
Abstract: The system includes a veneer lathe, a conveyor or apron (50) onto which the veneer from the lathe is initially directed, followed by a combination of an anvil roller (54) and a rotating clipper knife (62), which in turn is followed by a trash gate (72). The speed and rotation of the knife (62) is controlled such that the veneer material produced by operation of the lathe is first cut upon recognition of the start of random veneer and then again upon the recognition of the start of ribbon veneer. The trash gate (72) is controlled synchronously with the operation of the knife (62) such that the trash gate (72) is open up to the point in time where the veneer trash is cut from the remainder of the veneer material, at which point the trash gate (72) is closed.

  • Patent number: 4934228
Abstract: A system for detecting offsize defects and for segregating the veneer sheets containing the defects from the non-defective sheets. Scanners are positioned along the in-feed conveyor leading to the clipper. As offsize defects are identified, a computer determines which of the sheets to be cut will contain the defects. These sheets are segregated as by diverting them to a pull chain conveyor following the cutting of the sheets from the continuous sheeting. Dye is sprayed on the area of the defects as detected by the scanners to aid in further handling of the defective sheets when removed from the pull chain.

  • Patent number: 4554886
Abstract: An apparatus for coating a wall covering with paste or other adhesive and for cutting the coated covering at its desired length. A coating station, having wall covering supply roll supports, for applying adhesive to the back of a wall covering and a cutting station for cutting the coated covering material at its desired length are fixed to an articulated foldable work table generally at one end thereof. The work table includes spaced side sections defining an aisle and a longitudinal center section normally biased to fill the aisle, but which may be urged toward the coating and cutting stations by body pressure from the waist of the operator and, as the operator walks the covering backward, the center section follows in continuous resumption of its first position to cooperate with the side sections to form a platform for supporting the coated wall covering.

  • Patent number: 4204012
Abstract: A method and apparatus for inspecting and marking flawed sheet material is disclosed. Sheet material is moved from a supply along its length through a path to a cutter. The sheet material is visually inspected as it moves along its path, and a temporary electrically conductive mark is applied to the moving material at a predetermined distance away from any flaw that appears in the sheet material. The temporary mark is electrically detected at a position along the path the same predetermined distance away from the cutter as the flaw moves into the cutter, and as the last portion of the segment to be cut from the sheet material moves to the cutter, the sheet material is marked with a permanent mark. The sheet material is then cut and folded, and the permanent mark is located at a predetermined position in the folded segment of sheet material, no matter at what location in the segment of the sheet material the flaw appears.

  • Patent number: 4167150
Abstract: Coating apparatus wherein a pretreated sheet metal ribbon passes from a supply coil successively through entry rolls, coating rolls, a curing oven, cooling apparatus, and tension rolls to a recoiler. The ribbon extends through the coating rolls and the curing oven as a long-span catenary. No looping facility is required. The apparatus incorporates novel leading end gripper means and trailing end gripper means for establishing and terminating the catenary in a manner which minimizes the unusable length of ribbon, that is, the uncoated leading end and uncoated trailing end of the processed ribbon. A method of initiating, maintaining, and terminating the catenary is disclosed.

  • Patent number: 3987752
Abstract: Apparatus is provided for dispensing tape for wrapping around insulation in roll form to hold the insulation in a compressed state. Machines are now known for forming elongate strips of insulation into tightly-wrapped packages. As the last portions of the strips are being wound, tapes are applied around the outer surfaces to hold the strips in the compressed, packaged state. Vapor barriers or backing sheets are sometimes applied to the outer surfaces of the insulating strips prior to the application of the tapes, or the tapes can be applied directly to the outer surfaces of the strips. In the latter instance, at least two tapes are employed for each package of insulation. The tapes are supplied by dispensers which are located adjacent a supply conveyor that feeds the insulating strips into the packaging machine. The new dispensers are designed to be located at substantially any position across the conveyor and the dispensers can also be located close together.
