  • Publication number: 20120145083
Abstract: The present invention provides a teat treatment device, as well as an automatic milking device, a method and a teat cup therefor. The present invention cleans or otherwise treats a teat by repeatedly placing a teat cup on the teat and removing it therefrom again, wherein the upper side thereof, in particular segments with projections on the inner side, around the teat-receiving opening scrub the teat clean under frictional contact. Nozzles which can spray a jet of liquid on, in particular, the projections in the inactive position, can assist this treatment.

  • Patent number: 8191507
Abstract: The invention relates to a solution for cleaning a milking plant, which includes a milk line system (MLS), connectable to a collecting means, and is adapted to deliver milk that has been withdrawn from animals to a milk storage means (250). The milking plant also includes milk storage valve means (100; 235, 240), arranged between the milk line system (MLS) and the milk storage means (250). The valve means (240) are selectively adjustable to prevent fluid communication between the milk line system (MLS) and the milk storage means (250) during cleaning of the milk line system (MLS). Moreover, the valve means (100; 235, 240) are associated with a monitoring arrangement (275, EPS), which is adapted to determine an amount of leakage through the valve means (100; 235, 240) during the cleaning of the milk line system (MLS), and produce a valve health status signal (Sv) reflecting the amount of leakage. Hence, the functionality status of the valve means (100; 235, 240) may be qualitatively evaluated.

  • Publication number: 20120132142
Abstract: Methods and systems are disclosed for controlling a milking installation having a movable element that performs a procedure related to extracting milk from milking animals. An exemplary method includes capturing a three-dimensional image of a detected entity present in an operating zone of the movable element, and comparing the captured three-dimensional image to stored image reference data. Based on the comparison, the detected entity is categorized entity as one of a first predefined entity and a second predefined entity. The first predefined entity corresponds to a milking animal and the second predefined entity corresponds to an entity other than a milking animal. Based on the categorization, a control determination is made of whether to allow the movable element to continue the procedure related to milk extraction or to initiate a safety measure. Then, the control determination is implemented.

  • Patent number: 8181598
Abstract: A method and arrangement for controlling milking by a milking machine includes a teat cup having a flexible teat receiving liner arranged inside a teat cup shell. During milking, a vacuum is applied to a lower part of the interior of the teat receiving liner to draw milk from a teat therein while the flexible teat receiving liner is periodically opened and collapsed by application of a pulsating massage vacuum between the flexible teat receiving liner and the teat cup shell. A pressure sensor repeatedly measures a vacuum level in an upper part of the interior of the teat receiving line, and depending on the repeatedly measured vacuum level, the periodic opening and collapsing of the flexible teat receiving liner is interrupted by keeping the flexible teat receiving liner collapsed for a specific period of time.

Abstract: The invention provides a device (10) and method for milking a dairy animal, comprising at least two sensors (12, 13) for measuring milking parameters. Usually, an alarm is generated if a specific number of parameters each are outside a given range. According to the invention, now an alarm is also generated if said specific number (A1) of exceedings is not achieved, but if another, and usually greater, number (A2) of parameters each are within a larger, more flexible, range. As a result thereof, the actual alarm parameters with ‘hard’ limits can be selected, in order that false-positive messages are prevented to a considerable extent. In the grey area of almost exceeding, an alarm can still be generated if sufficient parameters are in dubious areas.

  • Publication number: 20120111274
Abstract: In the method of milking a group of dairy animals by an automatic milking system, the group includes at least two subgroups. The method has a number of steps. In one step, a dairy animal that presents itself for a milking is identified. Subsequently, a decision is taken about whether or not the dairy animal should be milked at that moment. If milking is desirable and the dairy animal belongs to the first subgroup, a teat cleaning treatment is carried out prior to the start of the milking. During the teat cleaning treatment, at least one teat of the dairy animal is cleaned. Upon identification of a dairy animal from the second subgroup, a limitation for a teat cleaning treatment is issued by a control device.

Abstract: A system that attached to mechanized milking equipment allows its automation that solves the subclinical mastitis by “differentiating” among each individual mammary quarter the time when teat cups must be removed after the milk is over, in an asynchronous and independent manner from other teat cups. Minimize the negative consequences of over-milking as a results of not removing teat cups on time after the milk flow has stopped; reduces economic, financial and productivity problems arisen as a result of subclinical mastitis mainly caused by over-milking; thus improving the product quality and amount. Mastitis produces somatic cells in milk, the greater the amount of these cells the lower the price received by the producer. Damage to the mammary gland may be permanent resulting in the loss of the gland and may be contagious.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method of milking a group of dairy animals including a first subgroup and a second subgroup by an automatic milking system, and wherein the milking system is flushed after a dairy animal from the second subgroup has been milked. The flushing step is postponed after a dairy animal from the second subgroup has been milked until at least a minimum number greater than or equal to two dairy animals from the second subgroup has been milked successively, or a subsequent dairy animal belonging to the first subgroup has been identified and the decision has been made that the dairy animal from the first subgroup presenting itself can be milked, or by postponing the milking of a dairy animal from the second subgroup until at least a minimum number greater than or equal to two dairy animals from the first subgroup has been milked successively.

Abstract: The invention provides a milking device having at least one teat cup connectable to a teat of a dairy animal, and a method of controlling the milking device. A measuring sensor measures the amount of milk secreted. Data regarding the dairy animal are collected in a control unit. The method includes the steps of: providing a milking frequency determined in a first manner at a first lactation phase and a milking frequency determined in a second, different manner at a later, second lactation phase, for example, the stimulation phase and the stable phase, respectively, wherein the first manner results in a higher milking frequency than the second manner in the same circumstances; identifying a dairy animal and determining the associated milking frequency; milking the dairy animal dependent on the milking frequency; determining the milk production; and switching from the first to the second lactation phase, dependent on the milk production.

Abstract: A teat cup has a nozzle in a head portion of a flexible liner of the teat cup for delivering fluid internally of the teat cup. The nozzle is directed so as to discharge fluid towards the discharge end of the teat cup. When milking is terminated, treatment fluid is injected through the nozzle into the head portion of the liner just prior to and/or as the teat cup is being withdrawn from the teat and, the teat cup wipes the fluid down the teat so as substantially to coat the teat. When the teat cup falls into an inverted rest position, after take-off, the interior of the liner may be flushed and dried with disinfectant, water and compressed air discharged upwardly into the liner by the nozzle. The discharge end of the teat cup may be fitted with a shut-off valve which can be actuated to prevent ingress of treatment and cleansing fluids into the milk tubes during the treatment and cleansing cycle.

Abstract: Teat cups are fetched from a teat cup magazine by a gripper carried on a robotic arm. The gripper grips and removes teat cups from the teat cup magazine. The gripper also holds at least one teat cup during transport thereof towards an udder where an animal's teats are located. A positioning element determines position estimates representing at least one spatial characteristic of the udder. Based on the position estimates, the robotic arm and the gripper are controlled to attach the teat cups to the teats where the position estimates constitutes a basis for controlling the robotic arm and the gripper to remove teat cups from the teat cup magazine in such a manner that a teat-receiving end of the teat cup attains a horizontal level in the gripper, which horizontal level is adapted to the at least one spatial characteristic of the udder.
