  • Patent number: 6668487
Abstract: A system and method for applying an animal access port to an inclined surface, such as an inclined cellar door. The system includes rail elements that are applied to the inclined surface on either side of an opening that has been cut through the inclined surface. The rail elements create tracks along the sides of the opening. A dormer structure is provided. The dormer structure has walls and a top surface that spans the walls to define an interior space within the dormer structure. However, the dormer structure has no bottom surface, and is thus open at its bottom. One of the walls of the dormer structure supports a door. The dormer surface can be placed in the tracks created by the rail elements. The tracks retain the dormer structure in place over the opening in the inclined surface. The dormer structure protects the opening in the inclined surface and provides access to the opening through the door in the wall of the dormer structure.

  • Patent number: 5813364
Abstract: An automatic pet door, enclosed within a housing, having a pet door located in between two sensors. The two sensors are positioned on arms that extending perpendicular to the housing. An infrared beam extends between the two sensors. When the beam is interrupted, a signal is sent to a motor located on top of the pet door. The motor is in constant connection with a power supply. A rack and pinion device works in conjunction with the motor. When a pet walks in between the two arms and the beam is broken, the motor causes the rack and pinion device to engage with teeth found on the top portion of the pet door, thus causing the door to open. Once the pet walks through the open door and the beam is once again continuous, the door closes.

  • Patent number: 5791293
Abstract: An animal shelter (10) includes a top (20) formed as a unitary shell and shaped to resemble a natural object having an irregular surface, such as a tree stump. An entrance (26) is formed in the top (20) and allows an animal to enter and exit animal shelter (10). Because the top (20) is shaped to resemble a natural object, the animal shelter (10) blends into a natural setting. An extended floor (41) may be attached to the base (40), and an extended covering (28) may be attached to the top (20) adjacent the entrance (26). The extended covering (28) covers the extended floor (41). The extended covering (28) resembles an extension of the natural object, thus further enhancing the appearance of the animal shelter (10). A planter (60), removably seated upon the top (20), may be used to cultivate plants.

  • Patent number: 5575239
Abstract: An improved indoor/outdoor doghouse having the improved connection of a top portion and a base portion of an animal housing using press-fit attachment members. Two types of press-fit attachment pairs are described with a first member of each pair being integral with the base portion and a second member of each pair being integral with the top portion. Another aspect of the present invention employs interior staking to secure the animal shelter to the ground. This feature employs a stake through an opening in an interior floor surface. In yet another aspect of the present invention, a floor channel is employed with a raised portion of the floor to hold water introduced by a wet animal occupying the shelter. The channel can be formed in any portion of the floor, or, alternatively, can follow a path between one or more walls of the enclosure and the raised portion. The present invention employs a louvered vent in a wall of the shelter to improve ventilation, but avoid the entry of rain therethrough.
