Abstract: A milking stable configured to house one animal at a time for milking the animal, with a first long side wall, a second long side wall located opposite to the first long side wall, a first short end wall and an opposite second short end wall, an entrance door hingedly connected to the second long side, and an exit door hingedly connected to the second long side wall, wherein the second long side wall is displaceable in a direction towards and away from the first long side wall so as to change the size of the milking stable to accommodate animals of different size.

Abstract: An apparatus for securing the legs of livestock animals includes a frame also which defines an entrance and an exit and which presents sidewalls which extend between the entrance and the exit thereby presenting a chute suitable for the ingress and egress of a livestock animal. Near the floor of the chute and between the entrance and the exit are leg bars which are able to move between a retracted position suitable for allowing the lower legs of a livestock animal to move freely between the leg bars and the sidewalls and an extended position in which the leg bars are closer to the sidewalls so that the lower legs of a livestock animal are held securely between the leg bars and sidewalls. The apparatus can be used to secure the lower legs of a livestock animal and thereby immobilize the animal.

Abstract: The present invention provides a bucking chute with side panels that include clearance portions adjacent to the legs of a rider of a rodeo animal. The clearance portions provide clearance space for the legs of the rider in order to reduce the likelihood of injury to the rider while the rider is mounted on the rodeo animal in the chute prior to the start of the rodeo event.

Abstract: The present invention provides a bucking chute with side panels that include clearance portions adjacent to the legs of a rider of a rodeo animal. The clearance portions provide clearance space for the legs of the rider in order to reduce the likelihood of injury to the rider while the rider is mounted on the rodeo animal in the chute prior to the start of the rodeo event.

Abstract: A rotary parlor arranged to house animals to be milked includes an annular rotary platform (1), at least one milking stall (3) defined by at least one side wall element (2) and a storing device (8) adapted to hold teat cups (9) in a parking position, and a restricting element (8a, 13a, 16a) adapted to restrict the mobility of the animal (4) in the milking stall in a manner such that a free space (12) is created between the animal (4) and a side wall element (2) in a part of the milking stall (3), where the free space (12) is used by a robot arm (10) when fetching a teat cup in the storing device to attach to a teat of the animal (4) in the milking stall (3).

The parlour includes a rotary platform (2) having dividing members (3) arranged to divide the platform (2) into stalls. The dividing members (3) have a substantially straight extension between a first end (4) and a second end (5). The dividing members (3) are each connected to a feeding trough (7) constituting a unit arranged turnably around a vertical axis (8). A center (9) of the feeding trough (7) is located at a distance from a vertical plane (10) extending through the first (4) and second (5) ends of the dividing member (3). By such an arrangement of the feeding trough (7) in relation to the dividing member, it is possible for the animals to stand in a naturally straight position and to eat from the feeding troughs (7) during the milking operation.

Abstract: A milking system including apparatus and a method for facilitating the milking of a large number of animals in a milking parlor. Milking stalls in the parlor are arranged to provide a one way-path of travel through the parlor with a controlled entry and exit to facilitate pre- and post-milking treatment of the animals. The milking stalls are separated by an operator's pit. A platform or person mover disposed in the pit carries an operator from one milking stall to another wherein the proximity of a working side of the platform to the stalls allows the operator to have direct access to an animal without leaving the platform. Movement of the platform to a given stall is controlled by a controller acting responsive to sensors that indicate the occurrence of an event at the given stall requiring the operator's attention.

Abstract: A cow indexing and positioning system comprising a first and second actuating systems where the first actuating system repositions a cow brisket bar assembly in the horizontal plane to index the cows located in a stall to be milked. When the cows are finished being milked the first actuating system then disengages from the cows' briskets and the second actuating system vertically raises the cow brisket bar assembly to allow the cows to pass thereunder.

Abstract: A composite sabot including an anti-splitting ring connected to the composite sabot body, to prevent the sabot from splitting during discard. The composite sabot includes sabot petals with fibers oriented in the radial direction and a front scoop for gathering air particles. The anti-splitting ring is mounted to the front scoop portion of the composite sabot where splitting initiates. The anti-splitting ring may be a variety of shapes and materials and attaches easily and inexpensively to any sabot.

Abstract: Wave curb for the cow stand of a diagonal or herringone milking parlor is formed of an elongated sheet metal strip. The side edges are each bent over about 180 degrees to form unitary beads on the side edges. The strip is bent in alternate curves in the longitudinal direction so as to form a succession of alternate arcuate bights, preferably with a wavelength of about 36 to 42 inches. Preferably, the strip is stainless steel or galvanized steel, and has a finished length of about 36 to 144 inches. The sheet metal workpiece is inserted into a wave curb bending apparatus which simultaneously forms a first pair of opposite arcuate bights. Then the workpiece is moved longitudinally in the wave curb bending apparatus; and a second pair of opposite arcuate bights is formed in the sheet metal workpiece.

Abstract: An apparatus for automatically milking animals provided with one or more automatic milking robots, teat cups and milking compartments. The teat cups are disposed on a carrier of a milking robot arm so as to be in their inoperative position, inclined relative to the vertical and when being connected to a teat of an animal to be milked, the teat cups are moved from their inclined positions into substantially vertical positions. The carrier includes a box-shaped housing for each teat cup, and each housing contains tubes providing a passageway for the pulsating vacuum and a further passageway for milk received from a teat wherein the passageways as a whole have U-shaped configuration within their housing, the "U" portion being composed of a relatively flexible material whereas the portion of the passageways between the "U" and the teat cup is composed of a relatively stiff material and is movable so as to extend from and be drawn into the corresponding housing.

Abstract: A brisket barrier for milking parlors includes a transverse bar mounted for sliding movement on vertical supports. The bar has a release position at floor level, a retaining position at brisket level, and an index position where it presses rearward against the brisket. The arrangement provides for uniform positioning of cows in standard stalls, regardless of the cows' size. The cows simply step over the lowered bar to exit the stall.

Abstract: A simple, efficient, and rugged dairy parlor entry gate which is especially useful for identifying animals, minimizing the need for lead animals to back up as the gates swing open, and provides for indexing the animals into proper position. The entry gate preferably includes a pair of opposed stanchions defining therebetween a passageway, at least one and preferably a pair of gate members, and mounting structure for swingably carrying the gate members and mounting them in offset relationship. An antenna may be provided in each of the gate members so that the interrogation field generated thereby swings with the gate member. The gate also preferably includes a motive member for swinging the gate members between an open position allowing the passage of animals therebetween and a closed position which both inhibits the passage of animals into the parlor and indexes the last animal into a proper position.

Abstract: A milking plant comprises a stall adapted to house one animal at a time for milking of the animal and a device for automatic milking of the animal in the stall. According to the invention the automatic milking device comprises a first milking unit with teatcups and a second milking unit with teatcups and an attachment means adapted to attach the teatcups of either the first or the second milking unit onto the animal's teats. During milking, the milking unit which is not used for milking may be cleaned or serviced, in order to be prepared for the next animal to be milked.

Abstract: A milking stand having a plurality of adjacent positions accommodating animals to be milked has a barrier at a rear end of the animals to be milked and a horizontal elongated locking component at a front end of the animals to be milked. The locking component has a first wave tube connected thereto and is mounted for vertical movement of the locking component and the first wave tube between a lower position wherein the locking component prevents the animals to be milked from exiting the milking stand and an upper position wherein the locking component does not prevent the animals to be milked from exiting the milking stand. The locking component is mounted for pivoting movement of the locking component and the first wave tube about a longitudinal axis to move the first wave tube into a generally vertical position and into a generally horizontal position when the locking component is in the lower position.

Abstract: In a method of automatically milking animals, such as cows, the milk obtained from each udder quarter is discharged through separate milk lines to a collector element. When the milk flow from one or more udder quarters has decreased to less than a threshold value, the vacuum in the teat cup or cups connected to the udder quarter is broken. When mastitis has been detected in an udder quarter and after the milk flow originating therefrom, possibly combined with that from one or more other udder quarters, has decreased to below said threshold value, the udder quarter or quarters involved are automatically stripped, either during a predetermined period of time or for receiving a predetermined quantity of milk, or until the milk flow has decreased to less than a second threshold value which is lower than said first threshold value.

Abstract: A front positioning rail for a diagonal milking parlor, in which cows stand alongside one another at an angle to the curb, is movable between a milking position and a release position. In the milking position the rail restrains the cows with their heads projecting over the rail with the briskets of said cows contacting the rail. In this rail assembly an elongated rail member extends laterally, and has a proximal generally vertical side and a horizontal upper edge. A plurality of vertical positioning loops rise above the upper edge and define head positions for the cows. The loops preferably have one vertical side and one sloping side, so that cows are discouraged from turning around in the parlor, but can slide down if they enter a position ahead of an unoccupied position. The positioning loops are spaced from one another at a predetermined interval. An air cylinder or other mechanism moves the rail member between the milking position and the release position so that said cows can exit said parlor.
