  • Patent number: 11369106
Abstract: This disclosure provides a method of detecting and deterring a target animal from a target area. A target area is positioned within the field of vision of a video camera connected to a computer processing system. An animal identification computer program using convolution neural networks and deep learning computer programs and camera images rapidly detects a target animal. The animal identification computer program is trained to identify target animals accurately using a learning algorithm and related machine learning technology. The time to deploy a deterrent against a target animal from the instant of detection is 2 seconds or less so that little or no time is available to the target animal to damage the target area.

Abstract: An animal-entry protection apparatus and related methods for protecting protected areas from animal entry are described. The animal-entry protection apparatus includes an eye-safe laser and a computing device. The animal-entry protection apparatus determines whether an animal has entered into a protected area. After determining that the animal has entered into the protected area, the animal-entry protection apparatus determines a location of the animal within the protected area and activates the eye-safe laser to emit a pulsed laser beam toward the location of the animal. The pulsed laser beam includes laser pulses having a laser-pulse rate that is between a first laser-pulse rate associated with a flicker-fusion frequency of a human eye and a second laser-pulse rate associated with a flicker-fusion frequency of an animal eye.

  • Patent number: 10321672
Abstract: Wildlife deterrence methods and systems use mono-colored light within a sensitivity range of a short-wavelength-sensitive (SWS) photoreceptor of a species to be deterred, such as an avian species. The mono-colored light may be generated by one or more high brightness mono-colored light emitting diodes (LEDs) and may be within 25 nm of a peak absorption wavelength of the SWS photoreceptor of the species. The mono-colored light is directed to a deterrence area with an intensity sufficient to cause at least a temporary disruption of visual perception in the species to induce an augmented behavioral response in the species resulting in avoidance of the deterrence area. The mono-colored light may also be generated as intermittent pulses having a duration sufficient to keep a pupil of an eye of the species in a continuous unstable state to prevent light adaption by the species.

Abstract: This invention relates to a method and apparatus for averting water fowl settlements using a humane, non-lethal, optionally solar and rechargeable battery operated microcontroller controlled by preset code, a multi-patterned and changing light generating apparatus, with at least 500 nm to 570 nm visible and 300-399 nm ultraviolet spectrum LED lights, activated by means for sensing ambient light levels to determine activation periods and resting periods for retraining water fowl to relocate settlements to an alternate location by disrupting their dark-adapted night vision. The apparatus may be in the form of a floating buoy or a land or other structural surface mountable device and includes means to prevent perching thereon.

Abstract: Bird carriers and methods of restraining birds are disclosed. Each bird carrier may include a torso support, one or more leg clamps, and a head support. The head support may further include a beak receiving passage such that at least a portion of the birds' beaks are exposed. The bird carriers may restrain one or both legs and heads of the birds while supporting their torsos. Restraining the legs and the heads of the birds while supporting their torsos may produce a calming effect such that the birds exhibit significantly reduced struggling in an attempt to free themselves from the carrier.

Abstract: A bird repellent apparatus having an integral base member and a plurality of prongs. The base member, by means of a plurality of tabs having holes for receiving screws or other fasteners, can be affixed to virtually any desired surface. The plurality of prongs with sharp tips presents an impossible barrier to birds that would otherwise land or perch on the surface to which the present invention is affixed. The combined base member and prongs are formed from injection molded plastic structure that also provide the tabs having holes to secure the base member to the underlying surface.

Abstract: A device and methods for catching, removing from within buildings, and releasing wild birds are provided. Sonic and/or dynamic characteristics of water are utilized as an attractant to lure birds towards a device for capturing birds. The attractant is located within a holding area of the device. The walls of the device are transparent and vented to allow the dynamic characteristics of the water to be seen from outside the device and to allow the sonic characteristics to be heard from outside the device. The device includes an opening that allows birds to enter the holding area of the device and that also prevents birds located within the holding area from exiting the device.
