Having Adjustable Animal Positioning Or Accommodating Means Patents (Class 119/752)
  • Patent number: 5769028
Abstract: A carrier includes a main unit and an insert unit. The main unit defines a carrying space having a closed bottom and four sides, one of which has an opening therethrough large enough to permit an animal to enter the space through the opening. The insert unit has a closed top, four sides, and an open bottom. After the animal has entered the main unit, the insert unit is lowered down into the main unit to close off the side opening. Then a foldable top closure for the main unit is folded to secure the carrier and form a handle structure for carrying the carrier. Both units are foldable and are structured to provide an enhanced strength carrier. Strength enhancing features include the foldable bottom of the main unit, double and triple thickness portions of the top closure, and the presence of the insert unit in the main unit.

  • Patent number: 5671697
Abstract: An expandable pet cage for animals, and a method for house-training pets of various sizes comprises two complimentary compartments that are in telescopic relation to each other, thereby providing an adjustable composite volume to house a pet. The adjustable composite volume facilitates using the natural instincts of the pet to resist excreting in the volume of the confinement, thus resulting in house-training the pet. The adjustable volume also can be relied on to hold an animal securely and safely during transporting, and provides an efficient enclosure for drying a pet after grooming. Also, the adjustable composite volume provides the pet owner with the convenience of only having to purchase one cage even if dogs of various sizes are to utilize the cage at different times and for different purposes.

  • Patent number: 5634438
Abstract: A large animal stock formed of two spaced side frames transversely connected at the front and rear to form an enclosure. Each side frame features an elevated top member both of which may be transversely connected along the length of the side frame at an elevation high enough not to impede access and egress of the animal to be confined within the stall. One or both side frames includes at least one outwardly pivotal guide bar, designated a gate arm, to help ease the animal into stock from the side. Adjustable bar(s) connected between the side frames may be relocated to diminish the confinement area of the animal for the ease and convenience of the handler. A quick release chain securing mechanism for attaching a chain to the animal's halter is also provided.

  • Patent number: 5601570
Abstract: A rotational adaptor is provided for use with a stereotaxic instrument used in brain research to hold and stabilize the head of a small animal, such as a rat, having a cradle with two ear bars and a nose clamp wherein the cradle may be rotated while maintaining support of the animal's head by the ear bars and the nose clamp. The device allows electrodes and micropipettes to be implanted through the side of the skull as well as through the top of the skull, increasing the number of available implant pathways and consequently reducing trauma experienced by the animal.

  • Patent number: 5441016
Abstract: A giraffe handling chute designed to confine and secure a giraffe for veterinary and hygienic care includes a confining structure with a frame connecting a fixed wall assembly and an opposing, movable wall assembly. The movable wall assembly is selectively movable toward and away from the fixed wall assembly along the frame to securely hold the giraffe. The confining structure is adjustable vertically via telescoping members at the bottom and top of the frame, and the entire confining structure is rotatable relative to a support assembly such that the confined giraffe can be rotated to a position in which it is lying on its side. Other features include pivoting leg restraints and torso support flaps and a removable neck restraint assembly and neck support assembly for immobilizing and supporting the neck of a confined giraffe during sedation and/or rotation.

  • Patent number: 5285746
Abstract: A self-indexing exit gate for a side-by-side milking parlor has a yoke member that is cantilevered on a sleeve that is journaled on an overhead rotary pivot bar. A latch member affords a limited amount of play between the sleeve member and the pivot bar. A pneumatic cylinder rotates the pivot bar between the first and second positions, which correspond to lowered and raised positions of the exit gate yoke member. The yoke member has a center of gravity positioned somewhat distally of the rotary shaft, which provides a small amount of play, that is, about six inches, at the point of contact with the shoulders of the cow. The latch member permits individual release of a cow from her stall without affecting the exit gates of the other stalls in the dairy parlor.

  • Patent number: 5233939
Abstract: An animal cage provides a rectangular box-like cage structure having a top, bottom, right and left sides, and openable front and back ends, together defining an internal cavity. A movable internal vertical wall is adjustably supported on the structure top, and a movable internal horizontal wall is adjustably supported on one of the structure sides. An animal may be placed in the cage, and the vertical and horizontal inner walls slowly moved to restrict the animal, so that a user may inoculate or otherwise treat the animal safely.
