  • Patent number: 7334643
Abstract: An adjustable stand includes a stable base, an upright portion upending from the base, and a platform adjustably locked in the base. The platform height preferably may be adjusted continuously rather than incrementally for precise and accurate positioning of a horse hoof or other animate or inanimate object. One platform includes a diverging U-shaped cradle, with a firm but cushioning/shock-absorbing material on its top side for elevating the supported object and absorbing the concussion of the work being performed on the object. Preferably, the firm but cushioning material is a flexible strap slung across the cradle and spaced above the surface of the cradle at its center region. The preferred plastic base and continuous adjustability of the platform provide a quiet, substantially non-metallic, and non-intimidating stand that tends not to frighten horses or other animals.

  • Patent number: 6953008
Abstract: A surgical tray for holding an animal in place in a dorsally recumbent position is made in the form of a shell contoured to conform generally to the back, neck and head of the animal. The shell has raised side wall portions on it in the vicinity of the head and thorax area, and scapular shoulder rests for the animal. Openings are placed adjacent the positions of the front and rear legs of an animal placed in the shell; and a detachable leg strap is led around the leg of an animal and passes through a corresponding opening in the shell for holding the animal in place. The shell is designed to raise the bottom above a table surface on which it is placed; and drain holes through the shell are employed to drain fluids from it.

  • Patent number: 6502531
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for restraining wildlife with minimal trauma to the animal. The apparatus includes a housing having open front and rear ends allowing the entry and exit of a target animal, while the rear end includes an openable/closable door effective for controlling the egress of the target animal from the housing. To immobilize the animal, a deer lift is disposed within the interior of the housing having opposed, outwardly and upwardly inclined surfaces which are vertically movable between a first, lower position and a second, raised position. The opposed surfaces are spaced from one another with the space therebetween defining a narrow passageway allowing the target animal to walk between the opposed surfaces in the lower position. However, the width between the opposed surfaces is sufficiently close such that they engage the trunk or body of the animal when raised.

  • Patent number: 6477986
Abstract: Shearing lifting jack for shearing sheep comprises a cradle (31) for holding a sheep on its back or stomach and which is shaped so as to allow the sheep to be rolled from its back to its stomach or vice versa during the shearing operation. Lifting means for example in the form of a rolling chain (20) is provided to move the cradle from a first loading/unloading position adjacent the floor of a shearing shed or other suitable location for shearing sheep and a second raised position for shearing the sheep approximating the height of a work bench. This allows the sheep to be lifted whilst it is shorn in order that the sheerer avoids bending over the sheep. The lifting means is operable between the first loading/unloading position and second shearing position by a single unassisted shearer.

  • Patent number: 6325154
Abstract: An adjustable farrier's stand includes a polyethylene base formed having a large generally flat base and a narrow truncated conical upright receiving portion centrally protruding from the base, a support upright configured to be slidably held within the upright receiving portion and an adjustable holding mechanism for securing the upright within the upright holder at a selected height. A first upright includes a diverging “U” shaped cradle attached to its upper distal end. A nylon strap is slung across the cradle and attached to the opposing ends of the cradle to form a hoof receiving sling. The cradle and strap are configured to securely hold the hoof and absorb concussion associated with nailing and hoof maintenance. A second upright member simply provides a flat surface or platform to receive the bottom of a hoof at an elevated position above the ground for anterior hoof work.
